    Hi there,

I am new to the car scene and I have deciding I want to lower my Audi on 19inch wheels and coilovers, not decker just so the wheel arch gap is closed and on top of the wheel.

I am needing help on doing this, I need to know what I have to run wheel size and spacers etc..

Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks!!

Hi buddy. Welcome to forum. Believe people would need a little bit more info, e.g. which car you have; is it a Saloon or an Avant, what wheels are you running and what is their offset and whether you are planning on changing to 19s including their offset. Have a read through of the below threads and I am sure it will help:

Believe you are on stock 17s and want to change to 19s? Coilovers v springs is or can be subjective. Different people have different opinions (or shall we say I have. Having said that, people do prefer coilovers over springs. In case you would like more info, below is a link to read a bit more about it:

    https://www.autoanything.com/suspension-systems/lowering-springs-vs-coilovers

Once you have gone through these, I am sure you'll be in a better position to make a decision on which option(s) to go for.

Thanks man for the links I think I’m going to run with coil overs , it’s the wheels etc what’s confusing me, people are telling me I might need to have spacers some are saying go for 8.5 front 9.5 at the back. Then others are saying run all them at 9.5.

Again this is all over my head, anybody any advise on this? Cheers

The issue is people will tell you all sorts of things and there are no right or wrong answers. It completely depends on ones taste / preferences.

There are two different OEM shocks. Base (or SE in your case) and Sport (sline). The Sport suspension is about 0.5in lower to begin with, so the actual height change for example from the aftermarket spring would be about 0.5in less. B12 Kit with Eibachs/H&R springs is what a lot of people have on their cars and they are happy with ride hide/quality. Some people are happy with ST coilover. kit as well. If you can, I'd suggest you get into someone's car with these setups and find out what kind of ride you like. Personally, I went with springs only and preferred Eibach Prokit over H&R. I found the latter to be too bumpy for my liking.

Re: wheels and spacers. If you are going stock 19s, then I believe they are 8.5 on A4s and 9 or 9.5 on A5s.

A 9.5" can typically have a more concave profile. As far as offsets go, the 9/9.5 allows you to go with a slightly more aggressive offset due to the stretch. With that said, a 8.5" is ET32 and 9 and 9.5 s ET35 (off the top of my head). Those numbers can change slightly depending on what alloys and tires are used, alignment specs, and ride height.... Aftermarket wheels can offer different ETs on the same size alloys as stock.

Note that a 9.5" wheel would be around 13mm more aggressive than a 8.5" wheel with the same offset, so you can see that the stretched tire allows you to run a 5-8mm more aggressive offset on the 9.5" wheel.

On my S4, I am on 19x8.5 ET33 with no spacers and I live the stance. For me it is perfect whereas there are people who have put spacers on.

I know it is a lot to take on. Hope it helps

I would suggest buying your wheels first, you can then fit them and work out if you need spacers by measuring the distance between the rim and the arch. This will also help you choose what size tyre you want to run. 9 times out of 10 people will tell you certain set ups won’t fit but they haven’t actually tried it. For example on my old B6 I was told that genuine RS4 alloys wouldn’t fit with coilovers as they are 9” wide all round and had an offset of 29

.... but fit perfectly with no arch modifications.

The B8’s have pretty big arches so we pretty forgiving. If you do go with coilovers trust me after a while you will be winding them right down :whistle2::tearsofjoy:
