hello,

I had a strange experience earlier today - while driving up a hill my power suddenly seemed to drop, and from that point the engine felt very sluggish - I realised that it was because the turbo wasn't doing what it should be! I was doing about 2500 revs on a moderate incline, hadn't been driving long. From then until I reached my destination it felt like the car was outputting about 50hp.

Then, weirder still, it started working again an hour later, after being parked. the drive home felt fine and it was pulling as normal. I guess this means it can't have been caused by the boost pipe falling out

I had it remapped on monday from 90 to 130, and it had been pulling a lot better due to that. I don't know if it might have something to do with that?

I also notice a sucking / whistling noise when revving at around 2500 and further, might this be related?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Scan for fault codes dude... could be over boosting and going into limp mode

<tuffty/>

Ok yeah will do, it's going in Monday so will ask them to do that. What's the solution to over boosting?

well, yeah...

It's going to the garage tomorrow, from what I've been looking up it seems like many problems with overboost can be related to the MAF or the N75 sensor, so I'll tip them off to that.

I don't think they have any diagnostics machines so if they can't solve it I'll have to take it to a VAG specialist

Hey man,
I was scouring the forums earlier as I own a Jeep Patriot CRD it’s the BKd Pd engine that I share with some of the A3. I had to join and comment as I spent 6months trying to find my lack of boost up hill issue. I went mental stripping my turbo abs cleaning vanes, leak testing on my drive, cleaning EGR etc only to find it was my Diesel Fuel filter. Pulls like a train now and given her a remap.

Now as much as this may not be the case for you, I felt I needed to comment to maybe save someone else the ball ache of a £20 fix!

If you have done it already, forgive me, but I’d love to love know how you got on at the garage. Over boost is a ******!

Wow thank you I'll definitely have a go at this!! I was thinking earlier actually that it would be worth doing!

Do you (or anyone) know if the filter is up in the engine bay or back down near the tank? I've seen a video of an 8L with one down near the tank but I'm sure mine has a filter up front too...do they have two?

Hey pal. Sorry - Xmas wind down from work got in my way of replying. My filter on the Jeep is on the passenger side of the engine bay firewall. Only one. It’s the canister type with 2pipes on top. Really easy to do, I just filled diesel before I put it on and turned the key to accessory position 3 times to engage fuel pump and purge air. Do look at any how to guides that this forum have for your specific car tho - just incase purging air is different, or it is a different filter. Let me know how you get on! I’ll keep an eye regularly now Xmas is over!
