Spoke to my best mate last night, who was chuffed to tell me he's got himself a 180 bhp 1.8T! Happy days.

It's in a Passat unfortunatly, but is looking to start modifying like the good 'ol days....

Now, i've been with my machanic for 6+ years now, but he's specifically Jap orientated - he knows his stuff but not so hot with VAG.

Anyone know of anyone independant down south that fits the bill they would reccommend - I would go to Badger5, but the 3 hour drive to him kinda seems a bit long.

Thanks all.....and Prawn as your in Basingstoke......any thoughts? :sign_plug:

Depends what you're after mate.....

I only go to garages for mapping, everything else I do myself because I like the challenge and learning.

For garages around here though, there's a healthy supply depending on what you need.

JKM are in portsmouth, and do just about everything. they're a revo dealer. Regal are in Southampton and they're also a revo dealer, not sure what other kind of stuff they do.

Storm developments are in Aldermaston and do loads of different stuff and conversions, the Phirm are in hook, and have been going for AAAAAAAAGES and have a great rep.

Personally though, I'd still go that bit further for service.

it's not 3 hours to Bill for you either, I can be in soton in under 30 mins, and I can get to Bills in just over an hour, and Rtech in just under 2 hours!

Quality is worth travelling for, every time :)

Well, that being the case then mate - how would you feel about a meet at some point then?

Need to do a N249 bypass... happy to play apprentice for the afternoon, could get your opinion on my setup so far - take it for a drive see how car pulls?

Could'nt agree more over the quality aspect...it's just what with the plans for the summer - I just need to know it's gonna be in safe hands

For mapping your hybrid, it simply HAS to go to one of the two mentioned above.

There's nowhere else I'd consider taking it for that.

If you just want it checked over, scanned/logged then you're welcome to bring it up to me, little things like N249 bypass and stuff is easy, I'm happy doing anything up to brakes / suspension swaps for other people, but things like changing the turbo are a bit risky on a 1 day visit incase things brake and you're stuck at my house! haha.

Couldn't agree more mate,

I HATE that sinking feeling when it's, " oh s**t, that shouldnt have happened" and your well and truley screwed.

The N249 is probably a good one to start with, along with a brew at the house of prawn. When you free next?

What year Passat, didn't know they came in 180bhp flavour?

Anyways, get yourself over to ukpassats forum. My Passat is on 190k miles now, very easy to work on, I do most of it myself on my drive when possible.

It is the 2002 Passat. AWT engine. Tells me it's the 1.8T with a KO3...or is it the 150 and he's chatting shetland pony?

220 isn't alot.

K03S and a custom map job done

"Job done" being, buying a KO3s first though

As these lumps come with the KO3, and we all know their limitations are 180 - 190.....(with the frilly bits aswel)

I give it 6 months til he wants another VR6.

-> Many thanks for the link aswel tuffty, made for interesting reading <-

My car was mapped at JKM, good work for a remap etc, not up to badger 5 service but still, it's 10 minutes from the house so not all bad :)

JKM were also the first people to map my A3 many years ago :) I've always found them incredibly friendly, and willing to help out.
