I saw that one on Gumtree too. Don`t know anything about it,was too far away from me to be of real interest.
Looks ok but pics can be deceiving, didn`t really like the cream(?)interior.
 
Ok, cheers. I like the white/cream interior, or not fussed by it or black. I know what you mean about photos can be decieving! its a long way from me too!

More wondering about the power steering leak!

I suppose it depends on how much of the piping would need replacing.

I remember a few people posting up here saying you can just buy the power steering piping yourself from a specialist shop and then get it fitted. I expect Audi will charge silly money for replacement parts.

Would also double check the clutch is all in good order- they aren't the cheapest to replace once factoring in labour.
 
18k between services would say to me it's been run on AVS all it's life. You'd want to get the oil pick up replaced and sump cleaned ASAP if you were to buy it

Is AVS = long life servicing? I'd be asking about clutch defo! Are the oil pick up and sump clean expensive, how much are we roughly talking?
 
Oil Pickup and Sump clean are not expensive, probably about £40 for the lot, including parts and labour.

On our noggy S3 when we first had it, it spouted a leak in the power steering rack... Audi shafted us nearly a grand to replace and fit it! Said the seals where no longer available separately and eould need to get the full rack !! NOT amused that's for sure

Car was soon trading in after that !! ( now got it back 7 years later :) )

Yes mate! Hello! The pull of the wee S3 is getting strong! Just to check then... It sounds like you could have got the pipes separately!?

I might have to put up an official wanted thread, just need to clear it with HQ1/cincfleet!

audi also want something silly like £270 for the hard pipe for the power steering system so be careful of where it is leaking from mate!

Sounds like the steering rack which involved removal of sub frame so quite pricey I got a used rack from eBay for 120 and then a few hours labour

Well spoken to the guy at length. Sounds genuine enough. Spoke to him about getting the rack leak sorted and he has said that he had had it priced up.... garage he uses said, steering rack off ebay for appox £90, and fitting all in £250, or the other option the garage gave him is it needs a pipe from audi £160, and fitting, again all in £250. So he is going to speak to the garage again tomorrow to firm things up there. Ive told him if he gets it done then that can be factored in to the price.

What would be the better solutionn for me, new rack from ebay or replace leaking pipe???

Other things, clutch has been done, cam belt done approx 96k, and advisory from last mot is a leaking n/s/ shock.
battery cover is missing, plinth has a small bit of blistering. No car mats.

is the cambelt every 60k, 5 years?

might be a ok buy im thinking!
Going to try and get him to refurb the wheels for me, as he runs a wheel refurb business!

best bet would be to find out if its pipe or rack before spending any cash on it
or you may end up doing both
rack can be recon for a good price second hand may be shagged aswell
pipe go to a hydrolic place with pipe they will make you one up
for around 30 quid will fit like oem aswell

The guy selling is going to get a garage to do it for him and they have offered either solution, this is before the car went up for sale, i cant only assume that the garage has come up with the solution for the pipe as this is what they reckon is the fix. they offered the ebay rack as an alternative. I wouldn't be paying for the fix directly, so not best placed to advise on best way forward ref hydraulic place making up pipes. Hope that makes sense!
 
Get the pipe made instead, would proba lt cost less than half!

He doesn't want the hassle though, ie he just wants it fixed, and won't be willing to put the work in to source a made up pipe. Although i could suggest this and take the cost in to account when bargaining!
 
Guy, IF its as nice as it looks and its history is good with the big jobs recently done, ie the timing belt etc then I would seriously concider getting it patched up so you can safely get it home, then when time / funds permit get it properly checked over ...

It would be a shame to lose it for such a minimal outlay to fix it compared to the price if the car !!

Go for it .... IDEA.... buy it, then contact your AA/RAC/Greenflag who ever your with, ring them and say you've broken down in Lincolnshire and get the car transported home as it is and delivered to a garage near you ? Saves you paying to get there AND back saving a few hundred quid travel expenses which would go towards fixing it :)
