Ok, I have asked this before but thought I woud try again.

Having failed to be impressed, or otherwise ripped off by Fontain, VW-Henley and/or both Reading and slough Audi..I would like to think there is a decent specialist garage in the berks/oxfordshire area. I was going to try VAGtech in leighton bussard but is a bit of a hike, and their peripheral location means I have to take a day off work.

I love the the A3, and give garages plently of custom but have been consistently let down by the quality of workmanship or customer service at the above locations...

Any suggestions of a garage who gives consistent sound rersults at a fair price.

Cheers, Clach

Dean at 4rings. He is mobile. But don't know how far he will go. I know he is based in Dartford. Excellent service and work. :)

Thanks for both suggestions...

Warwick is do-able, but again in the wrong direction for work..(I work in Maidenhead), but good to know as they look like they know there stuff...

I agree on Fontain and VW-Henley aka VAGTechniques.

The only other 'local' are

http://www.autotechnic-online.co.uk/ Near Reading; never used but have heard are hot on service

http://www.stormdevelopments.co.uk/ Near Aldermaston, Reading (off A4); done my cambelt, CC upgrade and other parts. £40.00+VAT per hour not hot on customer service as they are forever busy but get the work done with no complaints

One other one I know of is near Oxford train station called Autotechnic, Unit 15 Oxford Business Centre, Osney Lane, Oxford,OX1 1TB. Tel - 01865 724963 never used them but my mate with an Ibiza says they are very good.

Final one is SJB in Basingstoke http://www.designworkshop.co.uk/sjb/ a few Skoda guys I know say they are the business.

what needs to be done to the car?

can't you try and DIY?

nothing for now (touchwood) - after being hit for £300 at the MOT-, and DIY is a non-starter with on street parking, but would like to think I could take the A3 to a 'good' garage if and when the need arises.

Just out of interest what needs doing? Wishbones etc?

Nought... I had the wishbone bushes done recently at Vw-Henley. The guy left the car with the front right wheel some 2 cm's out of alignment. The tyre actually squeeled like is was oversteering big time going round slight corners on the way home. Shocking.

I live and work in Maidenhead and have used "Barry Symons Auto Engineer" who are a small local VW/Audi specialist (near the VW main dealer in Maidenhead). They don't really look the part for specialists, but have never put a foot wrong with my car and only charge £40ph labour. I've only used them for regular services plus the cambelt though, and I'm not sure I would go there for the more advanced stuff - pretty sure they didn't know what a haldex service was?!

I've been looking round for alternatives in the area and considered fontain, but I hadn't heard of autotechnic and they are closer - has anyone used them and would recommend?

Fontain are not recommended, at least from me.

if you can travel it David lees at alcester just outside stratford on avon work on my car the guys are brilliant really know their stuff and only 40 quid an hour ive had loads done from cambelt to full service to haldex to aircon re charge !! Highly recomend them,
