My car is due a service, or basically, an oil change.
I've been quoted the following:

Independent VAG specialist - £155 using longlife oil.

Audi - £149 for a "segment 2" oil change (seen here under Affordable servicing, Interim Service --> Affordable servicing < Servicing with Audi < Owners area < Audi UK)

Audi
- £238 using longlife oil.

What oil is actually used by Audi when doing a segment 2 oil change?
And is it better to use the longlife oil?

This is the invoice I got on my £149 service, says SYNTA5LT

Thanks a lot for that mate.

Looked it up and going by your invoice the oil used is Quantum Synta Semi-synthetic 10w40.
Never heard of it.

Anyone??

that got me thinking, I don't want crap oil in my car! found this...

Engine Oils - Quantum (these are made by Castrol for Volkswagen Group UK):

Yeah I saw that too.
Also, are you going to know which oil to use if you need to top up??

I used to use Synta Silver in my old 16v engines (Mk2 Golf).

I thought the new engines needed a 5w30, not a 10w40?

I can never make out whether they make a science out of oil to be ****** awkward and keep charges up, or whether long life oil is worse for your car with longer service intervals (esp. on modded cars). I used to change every 5k until oil got to £80 a pot.

As long as its got the right VW rating (the 500 numbers), then surely it will be OK as an interim.

I losing the will to live, if i'm honest. Think I'm just going to pay the indie £155 to use longlife oil.
My last service was a full longlife variable service, but my car must've been set to fixed interval because 4k miles later and a year to the day it is telling me it wants pampering again.

Sorry your right that was the wrong link

Quantum Synta, 10w40, VW 500.00/505.00, ACEA: A3/B3, API SL/CF; (semi-synthetic)
ZGB 115 QLB 004 05 - 1 lit
ZGB 115 QLB 004 06 - 5 lit
ZGB 115 QLB 040 7L - 20 lit
ZGB 115 QLB 004 08 - 208 lit

This would be the correct one going on the part number on my invoice, but then that site says don't use on PD engines??? Very odd

I've just bought some Mobil 1 ESP fully synthetic for my car along with a new oil filter (under £60 delivered), but it's not 5W-40, it's 5W-30 as recommended for the 8P S3 on the Opie Oils website. As my car is modded, I want to change every 6K miles, but do you guys think the oil I've bought will be OK? Just want to make sure before I get the oil change done :uhm:. Thanks in advance  x

Im also thinking of an oil change and have been looking into the mobil 1 oil for my S3, i only want to use the best but is there any benefit of using a premium oil over the audi oem stuff?

Mobil 1 ESP meets the latest VW/Audi specification for petrol engines which is VW 504 00

The oil you have ordered is more than ok

I would also like to jump in on this thread if i may.. My S3 just got a new engine and i've now done the usual 1000 mile run in.. In fact i've done just over that but when the engine was put in it went on a long life service plan. I want to take it off of that and do fixed intervals, probably every 6-8 months for an oil change. What''s the best oil to use?

Hi. You might want to go to Audi and get that oil changed for Quatum Platinum, or Longlife III if you have a DPF, if they have actually filled your car with Synta. They should do this FOC if they have used Synta.

Thanks, you've reminded me? I'll send Audi an email. When I saw the website say don't use in PD engines I thought it was a bit odd!

strange that my turbo starts to go after the oil change....

Haven't got a hope in hell pinning that on Audi! lol

If you took it to Audi I would imagine they would use the platinum stuff on fixed servicing, it meets the latest spec

fully synthetic oil is the best for modern engines (they resist oxidation at higher temps so lubricate for longer)

mine has just hit 19k miles after 2 years and DIS is telling me i have 5 days or 400miles to next service/oil change. quoted £130 at an audi specialist for fully synthetic plus £50 for aircon service. i will top up the other fluids at my own expense

considering im paying around £200 every 2 years for service, £20/yr tax and im getting around 50mpg in city driving, my 1.6tdi has been a cheap car to run :)
