My 1.0tfsi is reporting that it needs its first oil and inspection service in about 3000 miles.

If there anywhere online that lists the jobs that need to be carried out?

I may well go independent but want all required items serviced to protect the warranty.

Thanks

When they put your details and mileage into the PC it will tell them what requires to be done at the time.

1st service is basic oil/filter and a few checks...nothing big.

As has been said already oil and filter. It will be all inspection and any recall items. It appears you can now check recall using the Gov's MOT History website.

Is "they" any garage or an Audi dealership?

A first service will just be an oil and filter change and general health check. Only genuine oil filter needed for warranty. Where abouts are you in the U.K.?

As above, oil, filter, sump plug and a few minor visual checks. Unless you're longlife variable servicing, then add a pollen filter

Yes, car is set to variable servicing not fixed annual service.

In that case a dealership would replace
Oil,
Oil Filter,
Sump Plug,
Seal,
Pollen Filter,

Top up screenwash,
Carry out a full visual safety and wear and tear check.

You could opt not to have the pollen filter done as it's only really due at 40K miles. So Second service, as is all the other serviceable filters.

You'd be looking at around £180-£220 with some bargaining power!

Volkswagen charge a flat rate of £220 for a variable service on a small engine Golf.

Hope this helps :)

Very helpful, thanks.

I would be OK paying the lower end of what you suggest at a dealer but I have seen some laughable prices quoted on here for servicing. It is only a 1 litre car, not an S3.

We charge about £300 for that service on a Golf R

Provide your own oil.
With a bit of research you can get exactly what Audi use for a hugely reduced price. As long as it's the correct spec, the dealer can't refuse to use it.

I'm afraid they can.

Well, maybe I should be a bit more specific; one dealer of whom I asked this exact question said no, they wouldn't. It may be that all the other dealers will, but this one - part of a group - most definitely would not.

It's no biggie as far as I'm concerned. I was just curious as to what they would have charged had they used my oil, and I had every intention of taking the car to the independent bloke I'd been using for yonks anyway. Not that I mentioned that or anything - I'd have expected them to say no if I said it was just an idle enquiry prior to going somewhere else...

The oil change at the independent (proper oil, proper OEM filter) cost considerably less than the results of both my own enquiries and what I've seen on here, but then at forty-five quid an hour labour rather than well over the ton you'd expect that.

I can live without the fancy coffee, I don't need free WiFi or a complementary newspaper and it's ever so handy being able to walk home after dropping the car off and walk down to pick it up afterwards rather than having to faff around putting exactly 3.87 litres of fuel into a courtesy car and signing umpteen bits of paper.

You pays your money and you takes your choice.

The coffee is gross anyway, the wifi next to useless, and insecure, and newspaper, really? Only reason I take mine to the dealership is to try out a different model for the day - last time I had an RSQ3 (awful car), and time before that an S1 (actually v enjoyable). That being said, I still haggle on the prices. VW thinking they can charge £300 just for an oil change is scandalous, which is why so many unaware people get ripped off. If you look on the so called 'list' of healthcare checks, it includes such amazing feats of technical expertise as 'Sounding the horn' to ensure it works properly. At least indies grease the door hinges etc and other useful ancillary things.

Quite. I did wonder if I'd been feeling flush (and rash) and taken it to the dealership for its service if they'd have given me a discount if I said that I'd tootled my own horn and got out to see if the lights were working before I got there.

Given how difficult they were regarding me supplying the oil, they'd probably have said that since I hadn't taken the appropriate horn-tootling and light-checking course at the factory, they weren't allowed to believe me and insisted on doing it themselves.

I did chuckle, and have to say, I've often wondered about doing this myself before, but given the 'service' I've received before, I think they genuinely put a value on those kind of checks, as they seemed last time to be staunchly confident that £700+ for a Service, S-Tronic oil change and Haldex change was reasonable money. I laughed at them and walked out.

Absolute daylight robbery.

How old is the car and what mileage is on it?

September 16, 15k miles.

Oil and inspection due at roughly 19k miles, it has an easy life.

Will be about 18 months old when due.

Got to laugh here... People buy a overpriced German car but take it to a independent garage why Because it's way cheaper ? Bit of a contradiction

I have 3 Audi dealers all fairly handy to me I'll be using one of them as they're normally pretty reasonable but each to there own as they say

Not at all! Why pay over the top when you don't have to, would you pay what they say the car costs without trying to negotiate any discount!?!

My S3 2nd service quotes:

Cheshire Oaks Audi £365
Crewe Audi £401.19
Liverpool Audi £439.80

Audi specialist £220: 40% less than the cheapest quote and 50% less than Liverpool Audi, you would be mad to still take it to them! Same oil used, same filter used, same checks done and no effect on the warranty!

audi-jpg.117687

Oh and when I sold it, the sports car specialist said "As long as we can see the receipts to prove that it's been done, it doesn't alter the price". They gave me £2k more than what Audi had offered me!!! ;)

Couldn’t agree with jassy more, would you buy a £300,000 lambo and take it to a backstreet place for servicing?

Slightly different league. If you can afford a 300k lambo then money isn't a problem.

Nobody is going to take their car to some cowboy but a trusted, experienced mechanic.

Same principle. We had a v10 range rover autobiography traded in with the worst brakes ever seen, didnt even have the whole kit replaced, and no sensors on it.

The dealers arent ludicrous when you take stuff into consideration. And a lot of them will try and price match independents or close as possible

This was mine from main dealer for first oil change & inspection at 18500 miles

Capture

People (me at least) will be happy to use a dealer if they charge a fair price for the job.

Some prices quoted on here are not a fair price for a simple oil change are they?

Overlap in service......naughty boy
nah, good boy it was done early... Pollen filter was due at 2yr or 40,000... didn't want to bring car back in just to get pollen filter done a few months later when it hit 2yr

What stuff?

And if dealers are so sure that the service they offer is such good value for money, why would they even attempt to price-match an independent?

That's the sort of overcharging I'm talking about £212 Inc VAT for Labour for a job that takes less than an hour.

Don't lawyers charge less?

Glasgow Audi were even more expensive (which doesn't surprise)... almost £400 compared to £294

As for lawyers, depends what you've done, and how badly you want to get off with it :p
