I could (just) pull away from a 335d in a straight line with the hybrid on, using all 7800 rpms

haha, so none of the M cars then? You'll be ******** when you come up against a 135.....

+1 I will be getting a 135i in a few weeks hopefully. They keep stage 2+ 8P S3's and ED30's (350bhp+) in check when they are standard, pretty quick cars.

BMW quote 306bhp and 300 lbft from 1500-5500rpm with a peak boost pressure of 8psi but a fair few have dynoed around 310-320bhp standard. 400bhp is easily achievable with bolt on mods also.

i reckon i could beat you to 100 if you have a rolling start at 75mph lol
lol you wouldn't stand a chance, even at 60mph it pulls away from my mapped s3

Guarantee I would beat you to 100mph from a rolling start, I would just knock you straight off your bike and drive away :racer:

Lucky you, they are nice, and quick (0-60 sub 5 I read), BMW are leading the modern hot hatches with these things.

Im feeling the Nissan 370z more than the BMW it just has that performance edge on it, not massively quicker but still quicker.

Drivetrain losses are not all what they seem either.

Most people look at dyno results, and use these to claim that a 4wd car has 30% loss but a FWD one only has 15%. However they fail to appreciate that once on the road, a FWD car has two more wheels which generate drag (ie loss) which were not measured on the dyno. Whereas the 4WD car had all four wheels measured. A huge proportion of the loss comes from the drag caused by the tyres, so those extra two undriven wheels mean the 2wd car isnt just losing 15% once actually moving along the road.

Ye few have been recorded doing 0-60 in around 4.7 sec, same engine as a 1M without the little fettling BMW has done to the ECU to get another 30bhp. The 135i isnt really a hot hatch as its a coupe but they are priced the same and has a similar target audience as a 8P S3.

One to watch out for on the road is a 123d coupe. Its a 2 litre twin turbo diesel running around 205bhp and 295lbft, once mapped they can run low 13 second 1/4miles.

They need to look at styling

Haha I know a lot of people dont like the way they look. I dont like the way the hatch back 1 series looks like, like a 130i but I love the 1 series coupe models when they have the M sport kit on such as a 135i.

Friend has one of these and I think they look amazing an dont seem many on the road.

Im with you on the extra 2 wheels generate drag/resistance from the tyres etc which is not measured on a dyno which will obviously slow the vehicle down, but correct me if im wrong, when it comes to power at the wheels the rear wheels will not effect this as they are not connected in any way to any drivetrain. They have no energy going to them or through them so effectively they have nothing to lose but cause drag/resistance.

This maybe explain why the LCR guys have better rolling road results ?

So so many cars slain over my modding days...

Favorites so far:

R8 V8 - 414 BHP - I was very disappointed in it.
Vauxhall VXR 8.
Evo MRFQ300/320/360 (The 400 puts up a fight and then loses once the S3 is into and above 3rd +)
Porsche 996 GT3 RS the other day - he was surprised.
Scoobies - UK 300's are my favourite slay of all. In fact, any scooby.

I would dude.

Bottom line is that people don't expect it from a lowly S3.

Agreed, all of the above were subject to my lunacy behind the wheel, and the element of surprise...

Come down my yard one night and we'll go out and find some motors to play with. At leat you'll get an idea of what you'll be pulling, if not more.

I want a bigger turbo now, but I just can't justify it. I don't need more BHP than I have now, it's just stupid to go through it all again.

Yeah, Bill reckons about 2 weeks.

But we live and learn! I'm going to make sure absolutely everything is ready, no front mounts taking 3 weeks to turn up etc.

It's more too because theres a fair amount of head work to do and the piston rings are being swapped out. And I'm going to get the SEM after as well to try and keep the initial cost down.

I think the stage 1 s3's are getting a bit of a hard time here. Granted they arn't as quick as some modern hatches but only the top end ones - focus rs, magan sport 250 etc but they are faster than a fair few brand new 'hot hatches' - clio sport, focus st, mini cooper s works, civic typre r's and the list goes on...

I don't have any rolling road results from my car but it's stage 1 has been cherished and well looked after. My dad has a 330d (07) and the s3 is defiantly as fast and possibly just has the edge. My brother runs an alfa gtv v6 with rr readouts of 238bhp and my s3 will comfortably pull a gap up the duel carriageway and a good friend of mine has a corrado vr6 and again the s3 is easily quicker even if he's a gear or 2 lower. I've also come out on top in a straight line against an s2000 and pushed along an e36 m3 convertible. I was surprised by how glued i was to the m3 so maybe it wasnt flat out but it wasnt going slow either? These arn't slow cars, sure they are faster about but i think the s3 holds it's own petty well, even against far newer machines.

^agreed, i think that would be the difference between say a golf r an s3. I still don't think that a mk6 gti with dsg would be as quick as a healthy stage 1 s3 though.

My piont is that if you buy a well looked after totally standard s3 and then spend £300 on a stage 1 and new dv valve you turn a quick car in to much quicker car that will embarrass many a'car with ignorante drivers that see the s3 and think expensive mk4 golf gti.

When i was looking to buy my car i came across this thread on ph. Reading it back now the guy is somewhat optimistic with his bhp predictions guessing 280hp from a stage 1 but having said that he came from a cerbera and his list of previously own cars is full of equally rapid motors so he is not comparing his audi's performance to a 1.2 fiesta.

Audi S3 1.8t tuning by Angel tuning

incidentally has anyone heard of angel tuning? I've not seen any1 on here with a map from them.

They sound OK, but the bloke writing it did too until I saw this:

...so I started thinking. The most common upgrade for the turbo on the 1.8T is
the standard K04 used on our car with a wastegate mod and better downpipe
correct? This is capable of over 300hp (figures vary) and the internals crank
etc are safe for 350bhp so basically if I get it to hold enough boost and still
fuel correctly I should be able in principle to tweak it from 280ish flywheel hp
to 300-310bhp for the cost of a fuel pressure regulator, vacuum lines and an
EBC? All without changing any major mechanical components which would give me a
nice place to stop tuning if it works.

I stopped reading then.

If thats what he says about it coming from a cerbera though you can see my point...

Had a bit off a mad one last night, was cut up on a dual carriageway by a standard looking 3series and the red mist descended and a chase ensued, once traffic cleared he took off, and f*ck me he did go, surged off until the S3 hit boost then closed the gap, then went round a sharp bend (30mph) and this is where he took the inside and i took the outside, neck and neck in 2nd then i hit third and gained alot of ground and passed and continued to pull a big gap well into three figures :blackrs4:

the guy followed me into the petrol station and came over to say how fast the S3 was, i asked what his was (it was black and 10pm) and it was a mapped 335d..... all i can say is the torque destroyed me when i was off boost, serious motors they are!!!!

Now I new that diesels have an immense amount of torque- but I think this site has just proven it to me!! The company can remap the 335d so it has more torque than a F430, Macca F1 and a Murci!! The final word on the BMW 335d remap before she goes – Remaps UK. | Remaps UK News - 0845 269 4064 There's one thing keeping up and hugging bumpers, but another thing overtaking and pulling gaps

I just managed to edge a 335d, that I guess was standard, when I had the CR hybrid on.

This is getting out of hand! I need a bigger turbo :faint:

the way it took off left me...truly immense!! the pick up was something special caught me right out, but he did say he thought the S3 was standard and couldnt work out how i was gaining before passing him. Must admit i like my S3 as it looks standard but the bmw looked like a rep car and would easily of held its head to the 911 C4s i raced last week!
