Since VAG has gone to 5x112 from the Golf5/8P A3 onwards platform, has anyone noticed that us 5x100 boys are limited with regards to what alloys we can buy?

I'm bored of members asking about Rota Grid Drifts fitment, then I realised that it's basically the only decent aftermarket wheel left you can buy off the shelf that looks any good!

And I don't like the idea of hub adapters on high performance applications.

I predict fun

ha ha! . . Yeahhhhhh, couldn't resist stirring thing up at least a little bit!

But seriously, before we get too off subject! . . I personally only really like OE wheels and i don't think any of the later (8p/mk5) style wheels suit the 8l

For me, after market rims are only relevant on track when you want something lighter... Cos the OE rolans weigh an absolute tonne!

Nahh, he's a useless *****. **** him.

Jokes from you I can take because I like you, but Lee can sod off.

Somebody's touchy today

Cheer up Jardo a sense of humour costs nothing you miserable know all

When I was looking at track wheels I was dead set on these:

Think they'd look the nuts with my massive brembo's behind them, specially in that bronze! . .

And to be fair, there's LOADS of jap rims out there that people don't know about... If you ask me Rota's are actually sh*t. Remember back in the day everyone raved about pecco exhausts and then everyone realised they were pants? . . Same kindo thing with Rota's if you ask me

I actually have a mate that imports parts from Japan. If you want i can put you in touch, tell him what you're looking for and he'll keep an eye out for ya.... You'll be surprised what 5x100 rims he can get hold of as well

Lightweight track wheels, more multi spoke unfortunately even have the correct bore size.

Wheel choice is a very subjective and personal thing, Having something a bit different makes the car stand out and differentiates your car from somebody elses.

Karl.

The only wheels I would consider on an 8L S3 :o.k:

They just look so right on Dane's old S3.

Those Fifteen52 Tarmacs are rare as rocking horseshyte, they are basically obsolete to buy new, I've looked!

they remind me of the old compomotive alloys? have you tried looking them up aswell? 3sdm do one similar but doubt they would be light.

How about a set of Compo THs 8x17

Compomotive might have them in that size too . The pic just happens to be an 8x17

OZ Superleggera 8"x18" on my old S3. Great looking, massive brake caliper clearance and super light weight. Also spigot rings are solid metal, so don't fail on a very hot track day - most other wheels use plastic ones. Wish I hadn't sold those alloys now!

I picked these up from GTI International last year. I think they look good however would be tempted to change them for some pro race 1.2's or some oz superlegs like above.

8" Jojo? Man up!!

You can get metal spiggot rings pretty easily. I have a set for my 1.2s.

BBS CH's look awesome. Especially in black like that. I want another pair!

Pro Race 1.2s don't look too bad but I might be biased. 17x9s with 255/40 tyres all round :)

I've never been a fan of the BBS CH wheel, they look and belong on Golf Edition 30s, and a few members run them already, but I doubt I'll be purchasing a set anytime soon, that's not to say never.

The 17s work on your car, even though I feel 17" looks under alloyed on an S3, but that's just my opinion.

That's true they would have looked better in 18x9 but I got a ridiculously good deal on 8 17x9s so snapped them up. I'd have gone satin black or better still anthracite rather than gloss black too.

Looks good in gloss Sam, just leave them as they are!

I also recommend the superleggera,I have 16"x7" fitted on my escort, they're superlight and as said great brake clearance,I gained 8mph over a set of heavy 17" on a known uphill blast near me.

Loving the pro race Sam! I don't think they would look as good on my ming blue tho, and i would have to agree with jojo that i wouldnt go smaller than 18s but yours seems to work really well and looks decent. What tyres are you running as thats my next area i need to look at over xmas, mine has stretch and the profile is too low!

I currently have 255/40 AD08Rs on there. Previously had 245/40 AD08. Really should have stuck with 245 as 255 is really pushing it at the front width wise and I get the very occasional rub even after raising it a few mm. I need to get the wings pulled a bit which will help but the money has been going on better things at the moment.

I posted in my project thread that i found the right wheels for me- then only to find they were 5x112 when i went to collect, they were listed as 5x100, bloke still never changed the listing, ive since been looking for decent ''18'' 8j et35 5x100 57.1'' wheels, Dont fancy the idea of any spigots/ spacers/ adaptors/ wobble bolts lol, which is why i was pleased to see this thread for ideas :thumbs up:

Just popped into my local alloy shop for a couple of tyres and was having a chat with the owner. I enquired if he had anything in 5x100 fitment, he said he had bits and bobs, nothing I would buy(he knows me well), then told me 5x100 is a 'dead' stud pattern, he no longer produces wheels in that fitment. :(

Can anyone share some info on alloys which will bolt straight on, being 18inch and wider than standard 225 - ideally 235/40 up front 255/40 at rear? My idea was xxr530, if they fit that tyre size..

Not sure what alloys these are on this foreign car, but look real tough in these sizes -

235 45 18 on 8.5J front and 265 35 18 on 9.5J (but rears look bigger dia to me?)
235 45 on 8 5 and 265 35 on 9 5 rims
rear
