Hi guys,

Thought I would start a thread, so you can start following some of the updates, mods and retrofits I will be doing on my new Audi A3 over the next few months. Thanks to all the help, videos and ideas from others on this forum, I have come up with the following list to get through over the next 3-6 months, if you could assist on a few questions below that would be awesome!

  • Lowered on Eibach 30mm Pro kit springs - (£180 & £100 fitted) - DONE
  • H&R 15mm rear spacers (£70) - DONE
  • Retrofit Centre console speaker and D&M Space-saver subwoofer (£130)
  • Private number plates fitted
  • VAG Coding - MMI recoded to support retrofit above, wing mirror dip on reverse & churp on lock.
  • Tinted windows, ideally 20-40% all round (£100).
  • De-wipered - http://www.killallwipers.com/ (£12).
  • Pretty much a black pack - Plastic trims to be sprayed gloss black - Rear bumper diffuser, front grill, fog light grill and plastic on wing mirrors. (£TBC) - Does anyone have a contact in London to quote on this?
  • 1 x Alloy refurbed from previous owner.
  • APR Remap Stage 1 (£TBC) - Has anyone had this done on this engine? What should I be budgeting £500?
  • Low Profile Tyre's on the 17" current alloys - Any recommendations of what size/tyre to put on here?

So here are a few pics:
Day of purchase after a wash, polish and wax

One week later, these arrived:

Fitted:

I love how the car is sitting now, the ride quality is a lot stiffer, cornering is 100x better.

The Retrofit of the Centre console speaker and D&M Space-saver subwoofer will take place this weekend and I will be following Tim's video and attempt to fit this myself. Then up to VAG next week to get it the MMI tuned to support it along with the other features unlocked. Hopefully the logbook will come back and I can get my private plates on:

I will keep you posted. Let me know your thoughts!

Cheers,

Leighton - L88 ONN

Just as a question: Do you have to change license plates after the brexit is done?

Good luck on the build. Is your the 122 bhp variant? If so you got any engine mods planned?

Yeah it the 122 bhp engine. I would love to, but a massive novice in this area, was thinking a stage 1 remap, but nothing planned after that. Got anymore ideas?

dont forget our engines share the same as the Seat and VW 1.4 TFSI variation engine bolt on mods. You can got for a remap or a tuning box from DTUK for example which are direct plug and play - expect to pay slightly higher prices but being 4 years old already just get a reliable remap from a respectable dealer.

I've had mine almost from new and changed it with a few mod internal and external. You can look at my IG if you have an account

Its where I share most of my build progress.

Looks amazing mate. Have you got a thread on here as well?

not a progress thread because its gonna be slow lol. I've posted a few times on 'what have you done on your 8v thread'

Hi guys,

I thought I would show a couple of pictures as progress. Going through the check list slowly:

  • Lowered on Eibach 30mm Pro kit springs - (£180 & £100 fitted) - DONE
  • H&R 15mm rear spacers (£70) - DONE
  • VAG Coding - MMI recoded to support retrofit above, wing mirror dip on reverse & churp on lock. - DONE
  • Tinted windows, ideally 20-40% all round (£100) - DONE
  • Retrofit Centre console speaker and D&M Space-saver subwoofer (£130) - IN PROGRESS
  • Private number plates fitted
  • 1 x Alloy refurbed from previous owner.
  • Pretty much a black pack - Plastic trims to be sprayed gloss black - Rear bumper diffuser, front grill, fog light grill and plastic on wing mirrors. (£TBC) - Does anyone have a contact in London to quote on this?
  • APR Remap Stage 1 (£TBC) - Has anyone had this done on this engine? What should I be budgeting £500?
  • Low Profile Tyre's on the 17" current alloys - Any recommendations of what size/tyre to put on here?

I have fitted the speakers myself, couldn't get the wires in the back of the headunit, so dropped it into an audio shop, now all speakers are working, however the control of the subwoofer on the MMI isn't working. which makes me think the garage wired it up wrong?

This weekend I am going to fit the private plates and the de-wiper kit!

Did you get the rear tinted too? What did you go for in the end % wise?

Getting mine done tomorrow just not sure what to have (also sportback modified)

Amazing build thread mate, but I would suggest adding bi-xenons or even LED front lights to that list as those really change how the car looks.

Jdjames - Yeah 50% I went for mate.

Rideen - thinking exactly that. I hate the yellow looking drl's- do you have any links to share?

Just a quick update, number plates fitted last night :welcoming:

Rideen - yeah I have decided against the retrofit, there are additional parts other than the headlights to complete the retrofit and it is far to expensive even though the DRL is absolutely stunning! I am just going to replace the bulbs so they look white and not yellow, just need to do more research on what bulbs to get!

A friend of mine does custom jobs with headlights and he actually did a halogen to bixenon + LED DRL conversion on stock halogen headlights.

He used Morimoto lens for bixenon and bought LED strip that looks almost exactly the same as my factory one. Though in my country we dont have a law that regulates that cars need washers / self leveling with xenons.

It cost him 100 Euros total as he did labor himself, I am amazed!

Please don't go for some dodgy after market kit that will blind other drivers!

Suggest keeping the rear wiper also, the car won't look much different and you will miss the wiper in poor weather.

I went for 225/40/18 with 8x18 et35 S3 replicas on my A3 sedan. The tire is Gislaved UltraSpeed, nice compromise with price and quality.

Quick update after the weekend!

Rear wiper delete done! If anyone wants to do the same and is wondering how it is done just let me know and I can take you through the steps. I don't think there is a guide on the A3 8v yet?

KenL - I disagree sorry, I think it looks far cleaner without a rear wiper. I have had multiple cars with no rear wiper, even in Welsh Weather it hasn't been an issue for me. Personal preference I guess?

Get that A3 and TFSI off the back and it will look super cleannnnnn.

I think I want to keep the badges. Makes it look more OEM.

So did the wiper, yet you had no issue removing that, which actually had a purpose.

Either go for the clean look, or put the wiper back, the dodgy not quite fitting blank looks terrible!

Look more OEM?! But plenty of Audis come with no badges anymore. If you take the wiper off for a cleaner look, it will look way better without the badge she. Just my opinion anyways.

Showing age perhaps, but removing the wiper makes it look a bit boy racerish. Not a good look in my opinion but it is your car!

Maybe I go with the advice with the forum and remove the badges... decisions

What do you think guys? De-Badged it. I like it but I think I preferred the badges on? Once it's had a good clean I might change again haha

Cheers guys, growing on me massively!

Next Step:

Remap! - 145 quid extra to get it insured with a stage 1 engine mod :( - what has everyone else paid?

She's looking smart!

Opinions on ride quality after lowering?

Thanks Timi.

Yeah ride quality is much better, a lot stiffer, corners better, need to go a lot slower on bumps which is expected, but overall I am very pleased with the springs.
