Hey all,

Ive noticed my car has a knock usually when steering while parking or cornering. Its not bad but its loud enough. What could be causing this?

Edit: sorry guys its an 8P not an 8L my bad! But still, if anyone knows..

Possibly a wheel bearing or a cv joint/gaiter. May be worth a check. Could also be tracking. Im sure the guys will advise you better. :) x

If it does it on full left lock, then its possibly the dreaded rack issue, try driving slowly say out of drive & turn full left lock & see if makes a clonking noise.

NHN what is the dreaded rack issue??
and is it really serious... mine has started to knock seems to do it before full lock tho...
does anyone know of any decent inde garages in kent or hampshire??

AMD Technik in Woking, great guy Simon runs it.

I would rule out bushes etc 1st before condemining rack, as theyre a pita to fit & need alignment done afterwards aswell.

Hey, Did you ever find out what was wrong with yours a3-v6?

My 2009 A3 is doing something similar and as it's under warranty I dropped it back to Audi who say it's the front left top suspension mount/bearing which needs replacing. Unfort they didn't have the part and needed the loan car back so i've still got the problem but will be dropping it back in very soon. Apparently it's ok to drive, just a bit noisy when turning full lock sometimes, as in a pinging/knocking noise.
