I have a 2007 A3 2.0T S Line Special Edition. Just recently I have noticed a knocking/tapping sound on the drivers side when I turn right at low speeds like between 5-10mph. Has anyone any ideas on what this could be?

Also I have had the car approx 4 weeks and up until last Sat I have been the only one in the car. Saturday I picked up 3 mates and I noticed going over any bump cause a rubbing sort of sound from the rear tyres. I have looked at the distance from the top of the tyre to the outside of the wheel arch and it is significantly closer to the tyres than the front is. Which leads me to think that maybe my rear suspension is lower or my tyres could be wider than standard and are catching on something.

Im not an expert on cars or anything so be gentle!!!

I think the knocking noise could be strut mounts, mine did the same, sprayed them with grease and that solved it.

The rubbin noise will be the screws from the arch into the bumper so remove then most people on the forun have removed them as they groove the edge of the tyres as well

There can be several reasons for the knocking noise:
- steering box
- top mounts - common reason
- sub-frame bolts - very common reason

Thanks mate. How easy/hard & cost would it roughly be for each one?
