Hi there,

I have recently changed the batteries in the key fob and tried the re-sync option in the manual (I only have 1 key) as the key fob doesn't lock or unlock my Audi A3 2.0 Tdi 2004 model.

The key still unlocks the car when putting it in the key hole but the alarm will go off when enter the car and only goes off if I put the key in the ignition.

I noticed you can get a used key fob off ebay but I'm unsure on the part numbers.

Can anyone give any advice what the cheapest way to solve the problem?

Cheers,

Craig

If you buy a used keyfob off ebay you will need to get a new immobiliser chip to put in it unless you only want it to lock/unlock. Even then it would need to be coded to the car.

Presumably your existing fob used to work properly ? If so then you need to re-synch it as said above.

The red led does flash when the button is pressed I presume ?

Cheers for the replies.

There is no LED flashing on the fob but it did used to work.

Do I just go to Audi or local specialist to resync using vcds?

Cheers,

Craig

The LED should flash quickly every time you press a button. Are you sure you have put a new battery in the correct way round ?

You should be able to go to any VAG specialist to have it re-synchronised if necessary.

audi will pull your pants down for that job
find someone local in the vcds forum to do it

I have tried the battery both ways. Where is the led light? I have a 3 button remote key.

It has a code of HLO 8P0 837 231.

I've been quoted this on ebay...

Hi,
Yes I can supply the correct item, with a new Canbus transponder so it is ready to be cut and programmed.

I am after £40 including postage for the item.

I'll just get one off ebay with a new transponder, get a new key cut and reprogrammed to see if that does the trick, at least I'll have two keys then.

Before you do, may I suggest you get a quote to have it coded to your immobiliser. I think you may get a shock !

Dont waste your time & there are very serious security ramifications of using external parties for coding immo these days, stick with audi & also the megamos48 immo chip they use needs half programming anyway by germany to be able to do rest at dealership.
