Must I go to a dealer to have a new key coded to the car?

I'll be using the dealer to purchase one but wondered if I can use a cheaper alternative for the coding?

where are you mate, theres a guy on here who lives hull way who will supply cut and code new keys and wipe any old keys stored in the ecu

I took mine to the dealer to get coded. Cost £60 just for the coding.

Can't you use the new & old key system, as seen on youtube.

I'm sure 'Thomas EXOVCDS' did a version. Costs nothing.

Not relevant, that is just for the remote locking/unlocking, the main issue is getting the transponder programmed to the car.
