So after 10 years + of not kerbing an alloy, I did a proper job today. Coming out of a multi-storey car park, you know, the ones with the narrowest of exits on a bend and with 2ft high kerbs. Ending up catching my rear alloy. It's not so much kerbed in the normal sense, as very, very badly scraped.

Anyway, after I'd stopped swearing and bought a kango hammer to smash the offending kerb into a million bits, I'm now after a reputable local repairer. Diamond cut. This is for the Warwickshire/ midlands area if need be.

Thanks in advance.

I feel for you mate... it’s the noise it makes, it’s just horrible! Can’t help you with anywhere in your area but good news is there’s no chunks etc missing so it’s a pretty easy straight forward job for anywhere that offers diamond cutting :icon thumright:

I do all I can to avoid those car parks @D0C there was one near me with 3 exits and only one was wide enough to get out unscathed. I always waited for it to clear even though many people beeped me to move on!

I am the same, always take these exits with care but a look in rear view mirror and every time the driver behind is going mad and wondering why I am going slow

Not sure finding a place that can refurb that alloy with the original AudiSport logo In place is going to be possible. Or certainly not easy

Don't say that! Still fuming now and still can't quite believe I caught it, no matter how tight the exit was.

Must be a way of retaining the AudiSport logo although the fact the damage is so close to it will not help my cause.

I know the feeling mate, but if its any consolation... you got away lightly.

Think im right in saying, you only need to have the top layer cut, so logo wont be effected right.. in contrast to having the inner black paint redone, in which case you would require new logo..

Feal you pain, i came out of one in Cardif the other week & touched the kerb (21'' alloys) & thought **** thats that knackered but i must have just been at the right angal as when i stopped to check for damage you could just see the tyre had hit & no alloy damage. No damage to tyre either as was going so slow & after the next wash nothing to show.

Another rim scraper is in the Eurotunnel train. Each carriage has a 'chicane' in the middle that is just the right height to get rims on 35 tyres! It is nigh on impossible to correctly steer around these chicanes - and when you are first car in, there are a dozen carriages to drive through!

Can recommend Perfection Group in Leicester, speak to Fraser he’s a top bloke.

I know there’s an issue with the Audi Sport emblem when face cutting RS3 wheels but it looks like placement is different on the TTRS so you should be fine.

The You Tube guys online seem to pay extra for wide carriages? Apparently that’s safe then.

There has to be a Diy option if the damage isn’t too bad. Anyone tried it?

Hmm on a diamond cut wheel I’m guessing it would be a bit harder... but sanding back and applying the clear coat again would be the way to go... if the damage has marked the bare metal under the clear coat you’ll never get the same finish again unless it’s “re-cut”

I’ve done repairs on small patches, sand back with a few grades of paper and polish and apply 3 layers of clear coat from a can. Yours is a bigger area so may still be slightly noticeable if you look hard. But TBH most wouldn’t notice unless they’re specifically looking for it. You can do it in about half an hour plus drying time for clear coat.

This was recommended by a garage when I took it in for something else. My scrape was worse than yours though (idiot came in my land so swerved and hit curb at 20mph). Didn't use them though cos they said I might lose the Audi badge so have no actual experience with them but seem like specialists

To cut and recoat the wheel in a clear finish isn’t really the done thing. Results I can imagine would be poor..
Wheel would need to be stripped, fully repainted, cut & then clear coated. Polish, done..... keeping the logo is a no go unless there’s a place that could replicate it in the process before clear coat

Hi

Can you tell me where this is? I've done my front much worse than this and wanted to see if it can be refurbed whilst retaining the sport logo?

Cheers

Nik

I do wonder if it’s worth a try on a smallish flat area like this. What would you sand with? Wet and dry? Multi tool??

My detailer man has just rocked up to give the car some love (it needs it, it looks like it's been off-roading!) and he thinks it's not too bad and a good repairer will have the wheel looking as new, and will be able to keep the AudiSport logo.

I had mine refurbed via my Audi dealership, they sent it away for full refurb and it’s as good as new now, but I lost the logo.

I did it through them as they provided a courtesy car for 3 days whilst the work was done.

Before photo as attached, proximity to logo probably didn’t help in my case!

Eek, that is very similar damage and location to mine. I don't want to lose the logo!

Having another look compared to mine, I reckon yours had worse damage, at the bottom closest to the logo. Mine is definitely mostly scuffed.

I think it's one of those where I can have an 80-90% job and keep the logo, or have it completed re-done to 100%, but lose the logo...

I think it’s worth a try, and if result is not acceptable then have it fixed professionally.

When I did mine I just used 3 grades of paper and then finished with a 500 grit I think. I just sanded the scratched area only, ie, kept the strokes very short. I used the narrow edge of a sanding block. The wheel was still on the car but it would be easier to take off. Then masked the tyre and and gave it 3 coats of clear.

I'm sure i read on a thread somewhere on here (can't find it now !) that you can buy the wheel logos on ebay, and have the wheel refurb firm bake the new logo back on.
Problem is i can't find the dam logos now on ebay !!

Hi Nik,

They are called Flat Out Alloys, Penarth Road, Cardiff.

They see all the high end stuff, check their Facebook / Instagram out.

Hi DoC.

I kerbed one of my alloys - diamond cut, same as yours - pretty badly before Christmas (very painful experience!) and have just had it refurbed.

I live in Warwickshire, same as you and and found a guy called Steve from Warwickshire Wheel Wizard and he was excellent. He came out to my work last Monday and did the refurb, well recommended.

Great news! Do you have any before/after photos? I'll give him a call. Have you managed to retain the AudiSport logo?

I must be going blind as can't see it close to logo or is it that at 8 o'clock?
Could you post an after photo, want to see what it looks like without the logo. Could Audi not stick a new one on?

Had Warwickshire Wheel Wizard out today to sort my alloy out. He's done a good job. That said, £100 for an hours work is a good earner for him! Still, for the fact he's mobile was a big help for me and I would recommend him.

Also had my detailer over yesterday to give the car some love and he also had my rear wheels off and painted the hubs with Hammerite spray paint. Top job and the car looks in showroom condition once more.

Glad you've got it sorted mate. Not exactly cheap for the time it takes him but he does a ****** good job

Cheap as I paid £150 for the RS3 wheel.

I had this when I bought my car new from Audi. They caught the wheel before I picked it up. They tried fobbing me off with a refurb. The logo is laser etched into the base coat then lacquered over the top, unless you have the kit to do it, which 99.9% of people don’t you’ll loose it, you simply can’t replicate it, believe me I spent hours looking in to it. I ended up making them give me a new wheel (shameful plug *ahem* in the classifieds now).

However looking at yours again I’m wondering if that’s not just repairable. Is the rest of the wheel mint? Is that just dirt around the valve?
