    Hi guys,

We have just purchased the car and have been offered the obligatory extra packs

Namely the GAP, Tyre and Alloy cover and the Autoglym Lifeshine

We were thinking of buying the Tyre and Alloy as we have the 21” Rotar Alloys (which are are apparently diamond cut) and cost more to refurbish and the Lifeshine would be good for the interior especially as we have kids

Any thoughts on what we should get? Has anyone paid for the above and regretted it?

    Congrats on the purchase.
So this is my view -
Gap - Ever since I had to use it back in 2005, I have always bought it not through dealer. Dealer has always quoted me a heck of a lot more than anyone else externally. This time round I got it via Chris Knott and was less than half the price of the dealer.
I would check online via gocompare / money supermarket to see if there are any + highly reviewed such as direct gap and ala.

Tyre + Alloy: With all my cars, I only did NOT buy once...and I had hell that year!
But equally I have claimed everytime. The alloy not so much because I prefer getting them done "properly" rather than a smart repair but tyres...put it this way, I needed 2 replaced due to pothole damage - that was essentially a saving of £600 of the total 1200 (decided to get all 4 done in the end as I was down to 2mm).
Tyre insurance has been a godsend - the A3 also got a claim or two in the first year for pothole damage.

The A7 has 21" as you mentioned so it's a no brainer. But with alloy due to diamond cut, I would rather get them done properly.

Finally Lifeshine - pointless. The same guys washing the cars after service usually do the lifestyle (usually!)
In any case, it's much better getting a professional detailer out to put the cover on- you get better products, you don't get a rush job because the job is your car rather than 5 cars a day or whatever.
They are insured and you learn from them on how to maintain going forward or in my case I even did a bit myself to a point that I now do it myself on the car every 6-12 months and also learnt how to wash the car the proper way. the "new car to me" detailing had cost me around the £350 mark using a local I found on detailingworld forum.

    Hope this helps!

    Thanks,

I was thinking after reading a couple of threads that the Autoglym may be not worth it

Does anyone know if Audi update the MMi Maps at every service while the car is still under the Dealership 3 Year Warranty?

There no way I’m paying the £250 or around that figure, can’t understand why they charge so much for this when my Tomtom map update is free for life!

It’s a bloody rip off, Ulysses the Maps give you something more than what a Tomtom map would?

Maps are updated every 6 months on average, and you can download yourself from the myaudi.com website once you have registered. This is a free service for the first three years.

Gap insurance is a good idea, though for my last two Audi’s the dealer has thrown that in for free.

Regarding the lifeshine, the product it’s self is worth around £75 (you can find the kits on eBay) But worse is the poor application by the dealer which often damages the paintwork with swirl marks etc.

If you want to spend that kind of money on shine, find your nearest professional detailed and book it in there. You won’t regret it.

Congrats on the purchase - what colour?

    Cheers for the congrats

The Audi is this one although whoever typed in the details, for the car, has messed up as the g/km is in fact 142 ...but they stated it was 138. They also stated the car had done 11k miles but its only done late 10k...someone made a mess of things

Noticed the fog lights aren’t an added fitting, I suppose no one bothers with them these days lol

Does anyone know how much it is to fill the tank till the gun clicks and what the size of the tank is?

We have the standard Black Edition but still unsure if it has the electric motorised side mirrors...probably not :(

The tank is 75 litres, and depending on garage, should cost about £75/80 to fill.

By motorised to you mean folding (think those are an option) or electric adjustment (standard)?

Fog lights are built into the headlight unit. Not separate lights.

Yes the motorised wing mirrors so they move up when you lock the doors, pretty’s sure it wasn’t a standard thing which is a shame

Ah ok, so the fog lights are actually built into the headlight? Pretty cool

We have the new Matrix LED headlights

The Matrix lighting is very cool.

It’s a little annoying that you can’t have it permanently active, you have to flick down on the stalk to activate it every time :racer:

Out of all the various driving versions like Dynamic and Auto etc

Which one would be the best with fuel if not hammering it and only driving normally

One of the Audi tech guys was speaking to my other half and said ‘what has he done, it will go through fuel very quickly’

Got me kind of worried if I’ve made a mistake, I know we have a sport model but pretty sure someone said it was still ok on the fuel

So if it takes 75litres to fill, how many miles will I reasonably expect from tank before it hits the red?

I leave mine on Auto and not sport. Fuel wise, costs me about £80 to fill up and the range tells me about 660 miles. I get between 550-620 miles depending on driving style. Overall average since about 4 months ago is 40.7 mpg. Driving to work (17-18 miles) I get 40-50 mpg, better in the summer obviously, worse in the winter.

    Great thanks pxr5

    Seems not that bad then

I normally get around 550-560 for a £60 and that’s just as it’s away to hit the red in an A4 Sline

Is that filling the tank up from in the red or just as it’s hitting?

I tend to fill up when I have about 50-80 miles left, so I'd guess a fill from zero would be about £90 at today's prices.

I wouldn't worry about fuel costs. I came from a 2.0 A6 manual and it doesn't cost me that much more to run.

I love my A7 - it's the nicest car I've ever had. I look forward to driving it every time I get in. I'm sure you'll be the same. The engine power is sublime, even on a 272. Book figure for 0-60 is 5.5 secs iirc. In a car this big, that's impressive.

Pics of mine are in the sticky at the top of this sub-forum. Some nice cars in there.

Other half got the car today as I’m Offshore

Audi in Dundee didn’t even put fuel in the car from the test drive miserable *****

She filled the tank, put the setting to Auto and it was reading 570 miles

Also we never got the roadside cover for a year, should this be all packaged up with a used and approved car?

Yes, push the stalk down (pull up is normal flash)

You get a small white headlight with an “A” for auto when matrix is activated.

Hi RAF, sorry to bother you again

I’m just wondering, do the Matrix LED headlights move when you turn corners?

I read that it uses the Maps with MMi but what happens if you turn the maps off or haven’t updated them

Do the lights then just go to straight because it doesn’t know the road?

The lights will “corner” according to steering wheel input.

The matrix function is computer controlled, based on image processing from the camera mounted in front of the interior mirror, however (I believe...) the matrix on/off decision is made using navigation data, to tell the computer if you are in town (doesn’t trigger matrix) or highway/country roads etc which does trigger the matrix function when it’s selected. It’s a pity it’s not on by default!

It’s the camera processing that controls which segments are on, depending on vehicles it can see within the picture.

If you ever travel abroad, it’s the navigation data that tells the lighting computer to dip left/right depending on which side of the road your driving - automatically.

I never get tired of watching my matrix lights in action, as the different segments illuminate depending on forward traffic :racer:

Yep I had a look at a video someone posted up on here on another thread last night

All pretty futuristic stuff which is well cool :)

I always had the problem with our A4 that when the lights were set as standard (to pass an MOT) out on a dark road / carriageway I didn't think there was enough light infront of me and was always cautious, to the point that I felt myself slowing down to 60 on a 70 road.
I ended up asking the garage (friend) to click the headlights up 4-5 clicks which helped me so much.

With these new Matrix headlights I am so looking forward to using them, I am currently Offshore at the moment working and my other half hasn't been able to use them because the kids are bedded by half 7

I had the 3.0TT A7 before the S7. Both are very satisfying to drive and l always had a smile on my face whenever out and about. S7 grin is a bit more mind.

Also out of the country just now, so car warped up in garage. Within 5 minutes of getting back, I’m usually out for a blast :racer:

Urghhhhh I thought it was going so well after spending over £30k on a great looking car, bit peevd at this one :(

My other half has just spotted a few deep scratches on the rear right bumper beside the exhaust

Someone has actually used white paint or Tippex to cover this up or badly repair it

Now looking at Audi 149 exacting checks video on their website (https://beta.audi.co.uk/approved-used-audi/why-buy-approved.html), numbers 99 - 101 looks like they thoroughly check over the paintwork with a beam

Now if that was the case, this would have been picked up, I still need Lisa to send me a copy of the sheet to check. Anyone advise where I stand with this? It isn't even 30 days since I got the car...I'm off to cry in a dark dark room :(

Yep not good mate, this should have been picked up with their 149 checks, if it hasn't then someone needs their eye checked. Do you think they will try and repair it or replace the bumper?

    Had a reply yesterday afternoon

    'Good Afternoon Lee

Thank you for your recent communication in relation to the above picture. I have asked for the deal file/audit pictures to be given to me from our system when loaded onto so I can review.
I have also discussed this with our vehicle progressor to obtain a copy of his sign off.
I will be in contact with yourself over the next few days upon receipt of the relevant information so I can review.
Hope you are enjoying your car and will speak soon

Congratulations on the car looks very nice, i especially love the rotor.

Personally I never take out any of the offerings, they were still keen to sit down and go through them all with me @ Audi, I cut them short as I wanted to be off and miss the traffic on the 120 mile jaunt home and it was approaching rush hour.

I googled the gap as I was going to take it out privately (much cheaper if you decide to) but decided against it, had the car been new or a lease then i would deffo go with it.

All the othere (barring maybe the tyre and wheel) are just commission scams for the salesman imo, and all can be bought cheaper if you decide to anyway.

Ref the scratch, sadly as a used car it's buyer beware as far as cosmetics go i'm afraid and I doubt they will rectify it, it's probably even them hat have done the touch up. Luckily for you though white is an easy colour to match and a repair won't' cost too much.

Birmingham Audi paid for my lunch because they were late with my appointment to collect and also filled up the tank, they were very easy to deal with tbf and I bought it via e-mail subject to viewing so gave it a good 20 minutes look over.

eta I also got 1 years AA cover.

Well Audi have came up trumps with the bumper

Had an Email from them end of last week and they are asking for the car to be brought in Wednesday and will also be provided a courtesy car.

It’s really made us learn a valuable lesson to inspect a car thouroghly before buying, I was just lucky enough to have taken some really good photos of all around the car while it was sitting in the forecourt for sale.

    No Steve, :)

The mark was already there which we missed, due to me having photos of the car before we purchased the car, Audi ‘should’ have caught this on the 145 point check...which they didn’t

Makes you realise to check the car so much before purchasing, I’m just luck I took photos a week before we paid for it

Ah, then I'm surprised they are doing something as I'd suspect it's reasonable to expect a second hand car to have signs of wear use commensurate with age and mileage and would refer back to buyer beware.

The form is very ominous and just says "check bodywork inspection" I doubt they do much of the 145 point check in reality (My Mrs has worked for VAG for 15 years and the stories would make your toes curl, this is the same across most marques in reality, they are just box shifters nowadays)

When I collected mine I spent a good 20 minutes looking around it as I'd bought it subject to viewing as the dealer was 2 hours away, I did have photo's and a decent video focussing on the bits I asked him to.

When I got it home the oil light came on, they had over filled it, no big deal but again points to the monkeys they have working in dealerships.

I will do the same with this A7 as I have done with all my previous cars and that's take it to my local German Specialist indi, I like to deal with the guy with the spanner in his hand, not the fancy receptionist and have no idea which spanner is messing with the car.

Glad you're getting it sorted in any case.

Sorry very late to this, but I had a 2014 Black Edition and never got offered the tyre nor alloy insurance and would have definitely paid for them.
When the dealer offered the Gap and Lifeshine, I said not interested. However when I got to sign the final paper work, it turns out that they had added it anyway at full price, but then discounted the amounts. So got it anyway.
I think despite what forum members say, it does make a difference. I notice compared to my wife's car how does not have it, mine stays cleaner longer and is easier and quicker to wash. It does get bird poo, and I usually take it off when I get around to it, certinaly not within the minutes that Autoglym suggest and have not noticed any obvious lime damage. However it is expensive and probably get it done cheaper else where.
My 21" alloys have been kerbed. there is very little rubber so if not extremely careful they will get kerb rash.
The tyres usually get the worse of it and I have had to change them more than alloy refurb. Diamond cut is best.
    Anyway just my 2pc worth!

I picked up a new A7 last week. Based on previous experience of bonnet chips, scratches, I spent a good 15 mins looking around the car. Not only was it still a bit dusty but the rear bumper has a small indent in the paintwork where someone had rested something on it. Not a scratch or a gouge but an impression. I showed the salesman who quickly took responsibility for it and offered to get it sorted ASAP.
Even though it is a brand new A7, never take anything for granted. As someone else mentioned earlier most dealerships are box shifters. Car cleaning is out sourced, no one will car about your vehicle as much as you will!

    Hi all,

Audi have now fixed the damaged bumper, which by the way now looks amazing, you wouldn’t think there was a scratch there to begin with. They also replaced the tyre with a brand new one, which I’m so happy about.

Now, we have the Tyre and Alloy Insurance and have the Rotor Laser/diamond cut alloys and we have both managed to damage the same passenger front one and its now pretty scraped. Really annoyed with this but accidents do happen :(

Now for what I’ve been reading we may need to send the Alloy away, I’m thinking the A7 doesn’t have a spare tyre and only has the Tyre Repair kit, could be wrong tho? Do we have to fit the spare tyre until we receive the original back? Anyone used the insurance and had the same process?

My old 2014 had a get me home wheel and current new model A7 has a get me home wheel with tools. So you should have one in yours too. Botb cars had the 21” rims. So if you don’t mind the odd look, yo should be good.

    Cheers buddy,

The details state that the car Alloy could be away for 10 days, I presume it’s ok to be driving about on a get me home wheel if it takes that long to return?
