Hi guys, I've just ordered a set of 45mm H&R springs from DPM Autostyling for my 2001 3.0V6 (petrol) A4 SE Quattro! I have been finding the std SE suspension far too soft and wallowly for my liking, I prefer a more taught and sporty drive. Hoping the springs will deliver what I am looking for.

Does anyone have pics of a 45mm drop on an SE? The car also has the full votex kit, I'm hoping the nose wont be too low!

Here she is at the min:

Looking forward to getting them fitted, been quoted just under £200 by my local specialist which I thought was very reasonable.

Cheer, Paul

ive got H&R 30mm springs with the votex kit and it catches everything so im guessing ur might be worse. sorry to be the bearer of bad news but im thinking bout gettin s-line suspension for mine instead, also with my springs the car is top heavy, i.e the front looks lower than the back

can i see a few pics mate?

The front nearly always looks lower on the A4's.
I lowered mine 35mm on a koni kit and never had a problem with it.

no pics im afraid as yet poc mate.

think im gonna have to find a slab of concrete to throw in the boot to make it look even:detective2:

Wont a drop that big throw all your damping rates out? I.e the shock will be in the wrong position when going over bumps etc?

I have a tdi130 avant se and I have 40mm H&R springs on and they are great I dont catch anything. If anything mine sits lower at the back. I posted pics on here under a post called "finally got lowers painted" I also fitted bilstein sport shocks tooand it drives brilliantly, not too hard just a lot better

Scottyjohn, yes you'll be fine as you've got the sports uprated dampers, but what Isaac and I are saying is that the damping on an Se shock is set up for SE springs and SE ride height. If you lower the springs, surely the damping rate will be wrong as you've already compressed the shock by 45mm before any other damping takes place.

Ideally you should replace the dampers as suggested above.

The oem dampers will struggle to cope with the stronger deflections caused by the stronger spring.

On my old S4 V8 The ride was firm and well damped, however the roll control was poor. I fitted a set of H+R anti rollbars. This improved the handling without spoiling the ride.

Hi guys, thanks for the advice, I have posed the question to DPM and shall await their response. Makes sense what you are saying, never had any trouble with other cars I have owned, but then again never dropped them more than 35/40mm.

We shall see, if DPM think it may be a problem then I might change the order to 35mm eibach pro.

Cheers, Paul

damien at DPM knows his ****, he'll sort u but uprated dampers are the way to go with lowering springs, its next on my list

Then surely just buy a shock and spring kit, or someone on here might have some S-line dampers ?
