well I thought I might update this. The police arrested someone. No sign of my car though (I am sure it's in pieces). The thieves were smart enough to drive up in a car one of them legally owned. So they got caught escorting my S4 out the area on ANPR.

From reading another thread.

I dont think they even need the ODB port. rip out the glove box and the can bus lines you need are right there. I know from installing my RS-NAV. Talked to a friend of a friend of a friend who does Audi key replacements as a car locksmith. He told me you can get modified cables and a hacked version of VCDS that can pull the key codes from the car and then update a blank key and/or the car without the need for a key in the ignition. Apparently, the Alarm in a B8 S4/A4 takes 15 secs to go off!? So if you are quick you can pop the bonnet and pull the siren before it even goes off? He said the EU passing a law that it was unfair that only manufactures could sort out key issues was the best thing to ever happen to car thieves.

Makes me really question getting another S4. Nothing will be like my S4. I truly believe it's a dying breed of car (confirmed by the new TDI S4). But does owning something like that make you a target? Anyway....I will update this thread with as much as I can if I come into any useful information but I doubt it. I guess everyone adopts a "that won't happen to me" attitude until it does. frankly, I find the whole thing depressing.

I did email Audi UK who surprisingly called me back. I just wanted to rant really not like it changes anything. waiting on the insurance to make an offer now. we will see how that goes.

Sorry to hear what youve been through, very sad to hear
So the older B8's arent at risk then? I have a 2008 B8 3.0tdi (less desirable of course than an S4)
I have to the press button on the fob to open the car but it doesnt open automatically when im within a certain range

I didn’t have keyless entry. My key will be the same as yours. They smash the window. The alarm doesn’t sound for 15 secs. In that time they plug in and delete all the keys and add their new key and drive away.

As I have been researching this I was amazed too just find instructions on how to program a new key in a b8 platform car if you have lost all the keys. I’m not going to link to it but I thought it was interesting that you can apparently download the BCM data and create a “dealer key” with out having a key in the car by apparently turning on the headlights and holding down the brake pedal while use the correct hardware and software (the wording of the software is clear a poor translation). This then clones a blank key in the device and bam. Dealer key. Start car drive away. I might add that it’s a uk blog.
