Just cleaned the windscreen with fine wire wool............

Well This sounded like an absolute ringer for an April fools joke.
But I just goggled it and found a lot of hits that seem to suggest it's legit.

However several of these threads seem to mention potential issues with tempered glass, and a windscreen is tempered.
it seems that as long as you use very fine steel wool and don't apply excessive pressure and keep it wet you should be good.

No water, just used it dry i did buy the fine from b&q
Been told half a potato does the same as the wool too

Does a potato sort the "chips" in the glass as well. I would be more likely to try this.

if you cut the potato right down the middle - use the bigger half ;)

I'm going to try that, my windscreen is well wiper swiped, so it can't leave it any worse than it already is.

:salute:

I use autoglym fast glass with a paper towel inside and out, then RainX on the outside and get the same results. Don't have to use the wipers until it is reallllly bad rain.

It's true i seen the video, a detailing friend said yeah it's fine so gave it a go.The glass is so damn clear, almost like no glass is there tbh.
Rained heavy today and as above, no need for the wipers.

If you do make sure you wear goggles, that screen wash might sting your eyes.

I would like to try it as my screen is not smooth at all
do you think the cheap soap filled metal pads from the supermarket would work?

I've actually got no potatoes, can I use instant mash?

if i remove the screen ,do you think il still need to use the wipers lads?
you can attach gloves to them and use them to wave at people without taking your hands off the steering wheel

This has got to be the best thread I have read today. :) x

on some forums, people would kick off for subjects not being taken seriously :)

I can see why wire wool will work , but I'd rather use a clay bar and a rain x type product afterwards .

Is there any back to back test data available ? Say Tesco value potatoes vs Maris Piper to see which performs best ?

I have sweet potatoes and cotton wool at home, will these work instead?

Wonder if these magic potatoes can help with the 'chips' in my screen
Nope but try them in your fryer or better yet marinate in some corn oil and pop them on your engine block. Quick spin and 20 mins later they should be done ...
