Just bought an A3!

Anyone know what the misting in this area might be caused by? Doesn't look like a leak ....yet

Might also explain why I'm getting erratic coolant warnings even though the levels are ok.

I still have an erratic coolant warning light and since the thermostat was changed an intermittent EML. When cold and first start of the day revs are hunting although car drives fine. It seems beyond my mechanic so needs a plan B. Also passed MOT with flying colours!

Could be your coolant expansion bottle, the two metal prongs build up with gunk, you can try scrapping them with a screwdriver or fit a new bottle like I did and have no more coolant level warning.
Your hunting could be your brake boost pipe, might have a crack in the pipe where the joins are and causing a vacuum leak, causes the eml light to breifly pop up and as soon as the vacuum builds up your good to go, Have you got a hard brake pedal and difficult to brake first thing?

I'll check the brakes this morning but sound advice on the coolant bottle. I'll get that replaced next time she goes in.

Looking at that picture, looks like you have a leak from the vacuum pump, easy to replace, just 3 bolts, but the gaskets are impossible to get in the uk.
Part number 06D 145 117 A

I bought Carista and used the free trial to do some fault finding and have now got the following to sort out

Drivers door lock showing a fault which is good as it has become intermittent on the remote. Looks like a DIY

Vacuum pump to sort out leak as pictured along with new coolant bottle.

Purge valve replacement should solve the occasional EML and rough idle.

Also very keen to get a MFSW fitted with a new head unit. I've been using a mount between the vents with a magnet but the screw has become lose and it's not lasted as long as I had hoped.

Thanks for this. I'll get one ordered from the US!

Lovely that, what's the performance like? When I upgrade from my A3 in a year or two I'd love to get an S3 but would happily settle for a 2.0T A3 3 door! (First car so need to build that NCD up a bit first haha)

At almost 200bhp it's quick enough! Move it in to sport mode and due to the size of the car it feels much quicker than it is

I bet! My current A3 is only 100bhp but still feels fairly torquey and 'capable' in the low end, 1st and 2nd gears etc. 200 is powerful for 'an A3' imo, only 28bhp off the BHP of the first 99-03 8L S3, which I reckon has aged pretty well in terms of their power for a hatchback... As I said, would settle for the 2.0T A3! I guess it's just missing the Quattro, never experienced that so no idea of the difference it makes...

Had a productive day fitting the Evap purge N80 valve today. Took me ages to work out how to get the engine cover off and once I applied firm pressure starting from back it popped off.

I had to disconnect various bits from it first but they were all pretty obvious.

It also took a while to remove the original clips holding the pipes to the valve and replaced one of them as it came with the valve.

Thumbs up to the online parts request on the forum for sort it it out.

I was one clip short so will put some finished pics up and hope this solves the issues I was having.

Any luck with sorting out pan roof blinds?

My retrofitted pan roof has the blinds but front blind clip is missing and rear one is damaged so cant close the blinds.

Nope. It's not my car and I rarely use it so have let that one just be broken!

My rear blind is ok.

Remove the whole strip and put a long m3 nut and bolt through it

Make sure you clean oxidation off the contacts while you’re at it

yep, if you remove the lid bezel (2 hidden torx and then pop out) you can remove whole plastic that holding handle and lights (and yes the screws are nightmare to remove, what kind of IDIOT project it?!) and you can try to remove them and replace with m3 hex bolts as aqibi says or any self tapping screws that will fit (I guess the ones for hex 2 key was good for it) so you can unscrew them without problems, and probably in near future the leds will fail (depend of quality) as got them and 1 is like 2 years and brilliant and second one was already changed 5 times

I was a little concerned water or rust might set in due to the massive holes I've now made but might have a look and see if I fill from the inside with black sealant or something first as it's not visible with the light in place.

Any pointers on where the hidden torx are to get the plinth out?

Remove the boot trim x2 Torx T25 and yank hard, unplug the 4 pin cable, then there are x4 10mm nuts to remove, then it slides out (the one on the far right if you don't want to be removing the diversity antenna.

You'll need to use a swivel1/4 inch ratchet with a 10mm socket.

This is the best tool I have purchased: Very small sized locking 360 swivel head. Saves so many headaches. Can't stress how useful this really is, I did this same job not long ago. https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/Laser-Ratchet-Swivel-Head-1-4-D-3519/16012038205?iid=182230933419&_trkparms=aid=222007&algo=SIM.MBE&ao=2&asc=49129&meid=9e42645d2d4c4c008e84038dac96cb71&pid=100005&rk=3&rkt=12&sd=281169620162&itm=182230933419&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851

Hooefully everything bad comes in threes. After going out in the car todsy the wing mirror adjustment was not working or the windows or the lock switch!

Looks like I must have fried something when trying to fix the door lock.

Door card connections ended up being ok, the connectors just needed a good shove to reconnect them!

The problems have not stopped though, car has been perfect for the last 6 weeks, driving really strong and really happy.

Wife went out to today (lucky she was at home!) and the remote is not working. To top it off the key will not turn in the barrel either not even the AA could help!

Any ideas or suggestions anyone? Will post on the main page also

Quick update. Called the AA out again and this time they listened to me. Jacked the car up, engine tray off, jump pack on the starter motor and just enough to get the remote working and get a door open. Battery was tested and found to be dead so replaced under AA warranty for a nee one. It was only a year old and still have 3 years warranty left so haply days!

I did not. Was going to buy new from Audi with the plinth but unpainted it was about £80 so still looking for a used part.
