Hi - been searching this forum for a while now and have picked up some good advice!

Anyway, picked up my A3 3.2 V6, two months ago... and the car is a beast! I am extremely happy! Had a TT and Cupra R before, but the V6 engine is another level!!!

So onto the questions, from experience I used to use Shell V power petrol in my Cupra R, but the previous owner with the A3 only ever used normal unleaded... Does any run their 3.2 on Shell V power? Really tempted to go back to it, but was just wondering what others use in the 3.2.

My second questions is, has anybody replaced their paper air filter with a K&N or Pipercross Panel air filter which fits into the airbox?

Thanks

André

Hi Andre, with regards the fuel - you should run any performance engine on premium juice, can only do it good!
Nice car choice, lovely!

Hi Andre.

Nice car.... I had one a while back.

As above,decent premium petrol.

I don't think that it's worth chucking money at air filters etc on normally aspirated cars as the gains are usually very small but it may add to the great sound.

Nice one, S3Alex. Wasn't really looking at the performance gains for the panel filter, just not a big fan of the paper ones. But I'm in no rush to change it yet.

I changed my paper filter in my 2.0tdi for a Pipercross panel one as I hate the standed paper ones and it has given a slightly different engine note.

Thanks, Spartan91! Seen a few floating around on ebay! May pick one up when my next service is due in a few months!

I sold my 3.2 before having to pay £1700 for a new twin cat because the down flexes had split, apparently unrepairable according to Audi and three local exhaust specialists. I would have a look at them asap as I felt like I'd been physically kicked in the nads when I found that out!

I really liked my 3.2 and the engine note especially.
Very relaxed and comfy car but after a 3.0TDi Avant I felt the need for something quicker hence the S3.

Now if they combined the two .....

Interesting... Thanks for the info. I am not the most clued up with cars, but wouldn't it have been cheaper to replace the whole exhaust? Or is this something more serious?!

Will have a look at mine over the weekend. Is there anything I need to be looking for?

I did look at the S3, but it was out of my budget!!! :(

Just noticed your signature.... 500bhp????

That was the whole exhaust cost! You cant fix a split downflex. If you get under the car and have someone rev it then you can tell its blowing out of the flex (feel the air and even see it if its properly split), you may have to unscrew the plastic underbody shield which isn't a drama.

I'm afraid it's not quite as it left the factory.

A good number of mods X a shed load of parts = a lot of power LOL.

Hi Andre, good choice of motor. Is it 3/5 door, dsg/manual?

I don't think that exhaust will fit, our rear boxes are mounted sideways with the tailpipes coming out and turning 90 degrees to exit.

My next mod is going to be exhaust, but going to keep it cheap - intention is to cut out centre silencer and replace with straight pipe, should give it a little more burble without the expense.

Hey Mookster, it's the 5 door, manual model... Was looking for manual version and luckily I found a decent 2005 model, fully loaded with 64k on the clock. I have been very impressive so far with everything.

I had a feeling it wouldn’t fit, but the guy claimed that they could fit it on while I waited???

Would it be straightforward or cheap to remove the silencer? Love the car, but the only thing which is bugging me is the sound from the exhaust... it’s not loud enough!!! LOL

If you remove the centre box(the equivalent of the non-resonated Milltek for instance) it will burble a bit more, but won't anti-social.

If you keep the centre and remove the rear,it will make your ears bleed...I've tried that!

Nice choice in car. Definitely run it on v-power or momentum. Audi recommend 98ron, and when I ran mine on normal 95 it ran like a bag of spanners, really lumpy.

I run a pipercross replacement filter with a 3" cold air feed from the front bumper. Not sure if it made much difference, but the throttle response seems sharper and you do get a slight sucking noise under acceleration. One day I'll get a milltek just to enhance the noise, but for now I love it just the way it is. Hope you're enjoying it so far.

If I remove the centre box will it mess with the engine in anyway? Had a mongoose exhaust on my Cupra R and you could hear me a mile away. But I would just like a bit more from her! Lol

Would it be an easy job removing the box? Which parts would I need? I would be getting it done professionally...

Thanks. Been running her on the new v-power nitro stuff for the past few weeks. Definitely noticed an increase in mpg...

I definitely want to do something with the exhaust, but my budget is around £200 max!

I forgot to ask, under your bonnet have you kept that blanket thing attached to it? I have no idea what it's called (lol), but I have always removed them in the past from my previous cars, just wasn't sure with this one!

Thanks

Hi Andre,

Sounds like the under bonnet lining, no real reason to remove it :)

Got the exhaust sorted and had the centre box removed and replaced with straight through pipe. I was busy working on another vehicle at the time and didn't manage to get pics taken of the job done, but I'm very pleased with the results -
* Nice burble at tickover
* The lovely growl when giving it the boot at low and medium rpms
* Remains quiet at motorway cruising speeds, which is a double bonus

Definitely worth doing, not boomy, and will be less than £200 :)

Nice! Do you have any pictures? I am really thinking about doing this to my car! Would be nice to hear a before and after!

I had both mine replaced for £300, you just need a place that can do it and can be bothered!

I have the magnaglow on mine sounds great however I'm still toying with plans to get the golf r32 molten non resonated put on

I had the same problem with the downpipe flex's. For just the parts alone it was £991.62! So I bought some replacement stainless flex's, they weren't an exact fit but I had some other pipe left over from when I took the silencers out. Worked a charm! Taking the silencers out is defo worth it, wish I did it ages ago! Doesn't make it drone at all! ImageUploadedByTapatalk1370413328417829

Here's a couple from when I chopped the silencers out.ImageUploadedByTapatalk1370413530435125
