    Hi,

New to the A1 forum but not Audi Sport. I've had an 8L 1.8t Sport, A4 TFSI and still VAG at least Golf Gt tdi and now this little beauty. Picked it up last night for a smidge over £9k.

One lady owner, 64k, 2012,Sport, auto dim mirror :), cruise, S Tronic, only thing missing is heated seats so might look into how to retrofit.

190 mile journey in various weathers and it was great. Feels like my old 8L, little but like a newer A4 inside, great handling and blips on downshift in Sport are superb.

My worry that'd feel small inside didn't materialise, maybe a couple of times a year when there's me, wife, daughter and two small dogs and a boot full we might feel the pinch and our first venture is this weekend so we'll find out.

Love it so far. Needs light tints, possible different wheels or at least those ditch finder Landsail tyres changed for now, and a remap (just starting a remap business to run along side my other business).

Anyone bought an armrest from eBay? Not looked at genuine ones yet but I doubt £40.

    All in all exciting times.

    Hi,

I’ve seen a few of the eBay armrests and they do the job but aren’t anything like the real thing. I retrofitted the genuine Audi arrmrest to my A1 and it’s an easy job - instructions are on this site and Audi-Sport.net. Look at the link below from an Audi main dealer or speak to your local dealer as they should do you a deal on the kit.

    Good luck

    Thanks Graham
...but yikes I don't think I want an armrest for £250.

Could make it faster for that much ;-)

I fitted one and I like it - but 'she' doesn't - but mines a keeper anyway:

    Hi,

Looks good, and other that a bit of a pain using the handbrake I find the armrest really useful.

If you have the genuine Audi parking sensors, a VCDS mod I would recommend is activating the visual display as this works fine if you only have the rears and not the Audi parking plus option. The dipping passenger mirror on reverse is another to consider, along with spotlights on turn.

    Enjoy the car.

I bought the Carista app and have done needle sweep, NS mirror dip when reverse selected and noticed my OS heated mirror isn't working.

Not gone for an armrest yet, four new tyres Uniroyal Rainsport 3, need to replace number plates as dumbo dealer drilled direct into the rear hatch instead of using standard Audi holes so I'm getting steamy rear window and rusty droplets when I open the boot lid. Honestly...dealers...

Remap at the end of this month if all goes to plan. Added a K&N filter which sounds great for so little money and has smoothed out the flat spot at 3.5k.

I've done over 3k miles in 2 months and must say the seats are awful compared to the Golf's Recaro esque chairs. I'm fairly tall so that doesnt help I don't think.

Just keeping this alive. Bought some Uniroyal Rainsport 3s. Best purchase ever. Turned it into a fun little car. K&N has made it pull nicely past the lull of 3-3.5krpm.

I bought a shark fun aerial as the standard one looks like a 1997 Escort's. Wind deflectors for 5dr, not fitted yet.

I'm getting it hydrogen cleaned, as we know from the 2.0 tfsi the coking is horrific and my VAG garage owner said it should work a treat, seeing as I've done 6k miles since November. Remap will come soon but I'm in no hurry with the poor weather. Going to tint the rear windows as my daughter always complains about rhe sun coming in.

Still can't find any definite answer about heated seats retrofitting.

My twin-charge A1 on 'harsh' 18-inch rims/rubber is now on KW Street Comfort shocks; taken a while to get the shocks 'set' to how I want 'em - amazing how 'soft' they'll go - for the ***** Staffordshire roads I/we have to endure daily - can't wait for the next councillor to knock on my door asking for my support... But for sure these KW Street Comfort shocks have made a huge difference to an already fabulous motor car.

Keep the thread alive Judderman, the Audi A1 is a mega small car...

Kid you not; been using our RS3 for our regular runs over the past few weeks but today decided to use the A1. What a difference. The only thing we missed was the noise and the longer-wheelbase ride (the A1 lighter and more chuckable than the RS3), but what a superb motor car is the A1 - especially when twin-charged, with 7-speed DSG. You just gotta go there judderman, you know it makes sense...

Haha yes I've listened to your advice carefully and am on AwesemGTI website now poring over those coilovers.

I'll start sewing the seed to the wife asking her if she can feel a slight softness to the front right suspension....and then wow a grand for suspension....and then, well....if needs must....verified by my mate the mechanic...

I'm about a year away from dropping the RS3 bombshell on her, but she has said to go mad on my next car choice if she can keep the A1, which is fair and the sole reason I married her :)

That's oh so similar; I borrowed £50 from mine in 1966 for a Triumph Spitfire and here we are having just exercised an RS7 - 52-years on:

Ooo awesome, I have a soft-spot for those RS7s now, didn't like them at first but seen some YouTube videos and they are astonishing!! 8V RS3 and the A1 remapped will do for me, but I worry that I'd never sell an RS3 and there are 100s of cars I 'need' to own. I'll have to just make more money!

Oh and she's a definite keeper if she's lending you money for a car!

Sorry I was on my phone, I knew I should have explained :)

https://www.darksidedevelopments.co.uk/walnut-media-blasting-carbon-cleaning/ I had an A4 TFSI before this A1, and it's common that they get coked up really bad. I don't know the science behind it I'm assuming something to do with how the cylinder head is designed. RS4 B7s suffer the same.

So, this walnut media cleaning is expensive. My mechanic friend runs a VAG garage and has purchased a hydrogen cleaning machine. Sounded like hocus pocus to me, but after hearing about his first few customers, his T5 Transporter, my friend's Toyota Hilux and other high mile diesels having it done are like they've had a new lease of life, he thinks that it would work well on the TFSi motors. I had a Golf GT Tdi before the A1 and replaced the EGR and throttle body and they were gunked up to the max. He said that's what this machine removes without having to remove any parts (as you do with walnut media blasting). Costs £60 and takes about an hour. I just haven't had it done yet as I moved 30 miles from him and he was my go to mechanic (family friend for 30+ years too) and one of the very few people I trust with my car(s). I'll get it done and report back. Not sure if anyone else uses these machines, but as it's hydrogen it runs off a cup of water (the machine splits it) and a bit of electricity so it's a bargain/no brainer for a garage to own one.

I'll get it done this month.

edit ; https://www.engineclean.uk/how-it-works/ here's some proper info instead of my ramblings.

Interesting. Ours has 55k on it so maybe something worth considering in the near future

Definitely, mine's on 69k now and having read all of the A4 TFSI issues (although mine was on 122k) and RS4, it's something that can't hurt for a tad more than the cost of a tank of fuel.

Yea, but having a Lotus Elan for 37-years it was gonna be difficult halving if we didn't stay together:

So we had this done and honestly, I can't feel any difference. No change to mpg and the only thing noticeable when driving was the well known stuttering at low revs, which is still there. So I wouldn't suggest it for a 55k 1.4TFSi 185bhp motor. That being said, you're right, it does only cost a little more than a tank of fuel so I might give it a go on our 2.5DiD Mitsubishi with 110k on the clock and see if it makes a difference!
