JB4 Dyno Results - RS3 8Y

Burger has made available JB4 version for RS3 8Y. It can now be ordered. The only thing holding me back from buying it is the very messy wiring . No advice on how to make some order between JB4 module and Boost control module . Any more information on how to get to the OBD socket inside the cockpit ?

I have ordered will post and let you know when i fit. From my previous jb4 install on b9 s4. Behind engine on the firewall you push the obd part through a rubber grommet that came out about the accelerator.

With no news on the horizon for flash tuning the 8Y, I'm now looking at getting this as well.

As far as I’m aware the ECU has now been cracked and people are working on their respective tunes, so with any luck it should only be a few months.

Not according to Unitronic. Sounds like they can read the ECU but still trying to work out how to flash it back.
Really doesn't take that much time to whip up a re-tune if going off the stock maps.

Interesting, a specialist local (ish) to me says that they have tuning in development right now on their 8Y. Could be sales chat I suppose, but they’re generally pretty candid about things like that and just say if they can’t do something yet.

That's what a local-ish to me dealer told me a couple of months ago as well and it's been crickets since. Can't even get a response from them any more.

Maybe try find out specifics from your specialist? I have no idea what the truth is then...

B9 RS4 took about 3 years to crack the ECU, just saying ;)

Yeah I remember that because I had a B9 S4 with the same ECU. Sold it and about two months later it was cracked and there were a bunch of tuning options available. Typical.

This is the rubber grommet you need to go through on the passenger side.
I used a pick to make a tiny hole in it first.

Then used some bright plastic tie to fish the OBD wire through.

So y'all are ordering from their website directly? If so is there any import fees etc?

If in the Uk then yes you’ll have fees on top.

Ok everyone I’ve asked the question of Burger if they would be interested in a group buy of some sort.

I’ll ask @Sandra to authorise first though if they agree to it.

Okay ?

Id be in if you can ship to Poland!

Short answer from Burger is no discounts.

It will upset their dealer network as they aren’t allowed to discount the JB4 either.

It was worth a shot and if you don’t ask…….

JFA installed a plug and play unit on my RS4, the car was insane afterwards! Allegedly 450hp pushed up to 520hp and 550ft2 torque.

TX.

So guys installed the jb4 on my 8y uk model tonight. Put onto map 4 running momentum and it is running strong. Traction light is flickering lol. Didnt come across any firmware updates though? I take it the file you select is the rs3/ttrs?
Connected the obd cable but for some reason i get "invalid read.. try again" when scanning. Have emailed george see what he says.
To connect the obd. When you look to the left of the brake pedal their is a rubber gromet you can push through, its located to the left and up from the brake pedal. Kinda above the foot rest. This then comes out behind the engine through the firewall towards the middle

Those instructions relate to the left hand drive car though.
The OBD cable comes through the left side behind the ABS pump and well away from the engine.

That grommet is there on Uk cars but it’s passenger side.

Ive fitted through driver side.
Map 4 is safe?

To determine that you would need to be looking at EGT, Knock control and turbo speed :)

If I know Burger they’ll have asked him to log it first.

You would have thought there is enough protection in the ecu to handle it anyway?

It was interesting watching I think a Hamza youtube where he fitted the inlet to the 8R and gained a few hp as well as slowing the turbo speed quite a bit

The RS3 motor seems quite laggy and slow to boost compared to the Golf R motor, is that down to the way it's programmed or the 5 cylinder motor/turno combination?

Yes of course but you’d take nothing for granted.
I’ve never had any issues with mine.

I had a JB4 on my FL 7.5 R that thing at the lights was a rocket ship.

Now I’ve had the warranty work done and managed to fill up with momentum it’s time the JB4 went back on.
George has emailed me today saying there’s a new firmware coming Monday with improvements in it.

New file from George today to replace the existing one.

P98_M1 hex.

He’s asked me to try map 2 & 3 and log them.

Stock PSI is left hand column / requested is middle / and actual is right hand

So the Burger requests an additional psi figure and not an actual target? what are the other figures to the right? (94 and 100)

It’s a target figure, the JB4 has an additional boost control unit.
The column to the right is Pedal position

Any updates, what results are people getting?

Today I finished installing Jb4.
I dismantled the air box. Positioned unit with double-sided Velcro over fuse box cover and BMC also with double-sided Velcro on air box support (see photo). I also attach photos where I have tried to highlight the position of the wiring . With the air box fitted you cannot see them. To pass the OBD socket for right-hand drive vehicles is very easy. The cable duct is right next to the steering column.
I enclose a photo of the firmware version installed.
I will only be able to assess performance after the break-in is finished.
I have noticed that the JB4 gauge screen does not read oil temperature . It can't even do error code reading . Does this happen to Jb4 owners?

What does it say when trying to read codes? I had an error when trying to read codes, but then george sent over a different firmware and it worked

George replied to my email for clarification . He confirmed that oil temperature is not logged and that is why it does not appear. He did not, however, give me any indication that he cannot read error codes .

I did reply but seeing as you never acknowledge replies from anyone it’s not worth the hassle, no doubt you will disappear for another 2 months now………. Lol.

I sent logs to George, he sent me firmware Jb4_P98_DNWA_ANALOG:1c.hex. Uploaded to Jb4 and reading error codes now works .
