Its turning intoo a track car ....

Its killing me not driving this car.
Its never moved since it was driven into the garage from Knockhill on 29th August and I found the manifold cracked.

The chinafolds sitting in my toolbox, the manifold swop is happening January. No rush to drive it as the weathers crap anyway.

Anyone else feeling a little deflated with their car?
Im quite enjoying chilling in my comfy passat with no loud exhaust and crashy suspension!

Anyone else feeling a little deflated with their car?

27th of May I last drove mine mate. Bad day at work, considerably improved by a half hour blast down some of my favourite roads, and soon turned back into a REALLY bad day by the sound of utter destruction and pound signs flying everywhere.

6 months and 2 days so far of Boostless sadness.

I love cruising around in my 530D, it's comfy, looks cool, and it's pokey enough on the motorway, but show it anything that looks like a decent road and it fails to excite at all.

A few mates have let me drive their cars once or twice, but it's just not the same!

I've given myself a deadline of Christmas Day.

Victoria is worried that with me and Dad in the same house, and the track car still broken, we might ruin Christmas by being miserable

Nick I can only feel your pain, mines no where near as bad as yours but its awful having the car sat in the garage.
The last three track days of the year I passenger-ed with my mates, soul destroying not driving.

Ive set myself a goal of having the manifold swopped and the car Mot'd by Frbruary ready for some track action in Feb at Cadwell Park with the lads.

This buying a house carry on has financially ruined me, ****** solicitors fees, stamp duty etc. I thought cars were expensive!

Anyway, chin up, I'm just having a whinge, at the end of the day its metal and plastic and will get fixed.

I hope relentless go into liquidation, the pain they've caused me ha ha

I feel your pain although there light at the end of my tunnel so to speak!

Mine was taken apart from a perfect working state on sept 5th for X-Ray and fully forged rebuild, everything changed, balanced upgraded, many pound notes flew out the door over the following seven weeks, when finally after quite a few delays and the builder being let down by various parties it was ready to start running in. I had that completed in around two weeks and for the last six weeks I've been waiting to get on the dyno, I can't explain how hard this has been, it's running a poxy stage 1 map and so I can't give it sustained grief. It's finally getting mapped in the next few days. But a process that was meant to take a few weeks is now three months. I can't wait to open it up. Just in time for winter.....not what I'd had in mind..

Removing the abortion of the Relentless V4 (cracked ) this week. Ive got a chinafold ported by JNL Racing.
I ran a Miggz coper super gasket with the V4, do people run the chinafold gasketless? Ive checked with a straight edge in work and the turbo mounting face of the chinafold looks straight enough...

bench mount the turbo and manifold off the car and check it all sits flat as it should.
gasketless is how I run our builds

Well.

What can only be described as an absolute, monumental ball ache for my mate who does all the work on my car, the ******* Pro4 is off.
Absolutely useless heap of *****.

Its split right around the gooch!
Had to grind the turbo support bracket bolt, was completely seized even though it was only fitted last year when I had the rods turbo etc fitted.

The Chinafold was far less of a nightmare to fit. However, due to the horrendous pro 4 moving the location of literally everything bar the fecking steering wheel, we had to re bend turbo support brackets (easier said than done) and re align my downpipe so it didn't knock.

She's nearly there and currently looks like this below.

TIP on tonight and then in to work for MOT Friday.

Then..... off to her new home in my new shiney new garage !

Me and Lauren moved in last Monday. Nearly as stressful as removing a ****** pro4!

Ahemm Nick.

Its going to be on the road soon, fancy meeting in the middle at Cadwell, Croft, Blyton etc etc ;) However I know baby Prawn is en route!

Nice Nice Nice.

I'll fit my engine, you get it bolted up and lets meet in the middle and do a trackday together :racer:

Congrats on the house mate! Expensive things, but worth it.

Got a garage?

How can Cadwell / Croft / Blyton be in the middle

The next place above Cadwell is surely Iceland?

Good work Paul, and congrats on the move too!

Pics of garage required!

Errr.... I may have just Googled Eastleigh, and its like.... nearly France. :seenoevil:

Pics of the garage to follow when shes home this weekend :)

I could be in France in a few hours.

I think it's about the same distance from me to the Nurburgring as it is from me to you

I've never met an Eskimo before though, so it'd be cool to meet up one day :racer:

Ha ha we do ok here up North for the Nurburgring, the ferry from Newcastle to Amsterdam is approx 5 miles from my house! ha ha.

Well, Combe is on mine and the lads "to do list"..... itll happen one day !

So

Was out at Croft with the lads yesterday in the Clio's.
Was passenger yesterday and what a day! Love the track and fairly local to Newcastle.

I'm inspired....

And booking for 25th May.

Time to get some miles on her since the manifold swop. Doesnt need anything, last time I drove the car was Knockhill where the car performed amazingly.
Passed a MOT with no issued in the mean timwe.

Im back in the game. Lets do this.

Anyone local to croft fancy it? Get these cars used properly!

When are people next hitting the black stuff?

Just finished fitting my chinafold ported by JNL, did you find yours moved the position the turbo sits in?

My downpipe now sits on the **** meaning the rest of the system is resting one side of the exhaust tunnel.

Also what have you done about the rubber joiner from chargepipe to turbo? My joiner is pretty much touching the manifold, doesn't look like theres much room to get any shielding in between.

Yep.
The sodding pro4 moved everything so we had to bend the turbo support etc to match the pro4.
This was easy on an engine stand when the pro 4 was fitted with the rods etc.
The chinafold moves everything AGAIN so we had to re bend the support bracket in situ!
In terms of charge pipe I have a Trackslag which uses a short silicone joiner.
It's got space, but not much.
I haven't refitted my cookbot heat shield yet, I have a feeling that will need to be adapted too.
The downpipe has moved position AGAIN with the manifold swop and is close to the prop shaft, but now has better clearance on the rack and transmission tunnel.
When I fitted my polytek filled engine mounts I shifted the engine as close to the near side as possible to aid downpipe clearance.

Tbh both my pro4's hardly moved the turbo much, nothing compared to this.

Managed to move the engine by undoing the mounts and moving the engine, created a bit of a gap bit still seems to be catching somewhere and vibrating like mad, can't seem to find where.

I've got the trackslag pipe too, this is the gap I've got to work with to stop the joiner melting lol..

Yeah know what you mean. Having similar problem myself.....

This is the least of my worries.. China fold moved the position of my turbo and now my downpipe is wedged against my prop shaft.. Oh joy

Il take a photo f mine, its been a few weeks since I looked at the car (in the garage, just moved in, now an Ikea building machine)

So it's not just mine that was made wonky then.

I had to grind a bit off the manifold where it's touching the comp housing as shown in your pic

much of the clearance issues are as related to other hardware as it is chinafold.. Turbo comp housing clocking for example, are often not ideal, but easily moved which helps. Lever bar on downpipe to prop can often also just rotate the turbo to manifold if the bolts are not done up finished tight, which can also help. Sadly chinafold, is as "chinese" as a Relentless in consistency terms, but it is at least durable.

What's the Newcastle ferry like? I'll be on it this September for my 2nd Ring trip.

We did Hull-Rotterdam last year which wasn't bad. I'm just looking forward to not having to do that boring drive down the A1 this time and spend more time in the ferry bar instead :)

If only modding a s3 was as easy as building flat pack furniture!

Will be interesting to know what difference between your old mani and new in terms of power but of course reliability is the main important difference

Did same thing myself and also had to remove material from the lugs on top..

Think there all made wonky and doesn't help my DP is Chinese junk as well.

At least it wont fall appart Bill.

Ha ha the Ferry is actually really good crack. We all live within a 5 mile radius so we literally have a few minutes drive to the ferry.
Its ideal, the drive from Amsterdam down to the Ring is fairly boring as its all motorway, but no worse than driving from Newcaste down south on the M1 really!

It will mate, I'll try and tag onto a rolling road day somewhere at some point and get a figure.
The Pro 4 got me to 342 and 315 on Bills rollers (realistic) so anywhere around that I would be a happy chappy.

The lads are off to the Ring tomorrow but I wouldnt make it this time round due to moving in etc.
Theyre on about a second trip later in the year... we shall see.

The throttle body failed on the way home last time and I got towed 205 miles on the back of a M5. Worst thing was is that I have a spare at home! If only I had of taken it.
Now I carry a spare and Vag come to every trackday / big drive out ha ha .

Personally If I was to go to the ring again, I would passenger and rent a swift :)

Haha I know the feeling.. November last year I was only a few laps into a track day at Knockhill and I was flying, literally flying past everything and came out of Clarkes in 3rd, changed to 4th and lost drive :(

Limped into the pits and discovered box was stuck in 3rd!! Oh no! Ended up driving the car 160 miles home in third gear hehe 40mph all the way.. Engine screaming and long tail backs all the way home with my pal escorting me in his r26 Megane haha

Although I did few laps the car was awesome and it gave me the motivation to replace the box and forge the bottom end and fit bbt hybrid.. Hopefully get down to bills at some point for mapping and resume track fun!!

I absolutley loved Knockhill in the S3, really quick track!

We should sort it so were both there at the same time if your planning another day there?

I'll get Croft in May over with and see if she survives / blows up and go from there!

Haha blows up?! Hehe it happens and an already expensive day gets more EXPENSIVE!

definitely getting more track days in this year.. After all time and effort put in! I actually need to drive the thing!! Yeh we need to get in touch whenever either books a day at KH and hopefully we can get on track together!

Be great locking horns with another s3!
