Issues after Virtual Cockpit retrofit

Hi,
I recently got the VC retrofit done on my 2015 A3 8V and it looks awesome! However lost the following functions:
- Hill Hold Assist
- Loss of bass (low compared to prior retrofitting)

Would anyone know the cause of these losses? And how would I be able to regain these features?

The CarPlay in the middle console only charges my phone but doesn’t pick up CarPlay which is also frustrating.

Thanks in advance!

Plz tell me more info on this retro fit? I plan to do the same. Did u upgrade the steering wheel? Was the VC new or used? Who did the coding? Or was it plug n play?

Ive done this retrofit in my own car.

Cutting: Yep
You install the vc bezel as far in as possibble, draw cutting line on inside of bezel. Cut. (oscilating saw is perfect for this)
Try to fit the vc, usually you need to cut more on the bottem. Dont cut the vc itself. Once the cluster fits inside the hole install the retrofit brackets, hook up vc and milage reset button. Dont forget the facra and fiberoptic going to the mmi.

You need 8v1035035 (dab) or 8v1035036 (no dab) mmi to show mmi on vc. (the extra facra goes here. If you have the b&o you need optic 3 way cable.
The mmi must be hacked for facelift cars. Nice to know, they can make navi updates free for live! (this gives an error in mmi with maps not activated, but works great!)

Screen in middle must be from mmi high (big screen)

Replace cockpit with odis, (hook up origional first) Odis will tell you what to do. Be prepared to have all keys of the car as these are stored in the cockpit. (no idea how this works on kessy systems)

New clusters have the option of setting milage and setting the s or rs gauges. Used dont have these options...

Steering wheel: You need facelift steeringwheel with view button. Airbag from prefacelift doesnt fit.. On mine the gateway could not take the view steeringwheel. I needed to upgrade the gateway.

Usb :
Facelift have 2 options from factory, one is charge only, 2nd is carplay.android auto capable. You need this one.
For prefacelift you need the middle console + usb + cables as the prefacelift wil not work and the hole inside the armrest for usb is different.

Coding....Trial and error if you do it yourself. Expect 2-3 days inside the car coding vc and mmi. Offcourse facelift can copy allot from old mmi.

Middle console
Your old one works perfect here. But you can upgrade.

Dab
Seat has a combi antenna for fm and dab. So only 1 extra wire to make this work.

LTE antenna (gsm)
There are 2 lte antennas in the rear bumper, if you have sim already, then you have these. otherwise you can install.

Audi connect will never work on prefacelift, Maybe it will on facelift , but only if mmi is not hacked.

Google earth..
Still hoping to get this to work...

What did not work on my car:

The old prefacelift side assist is coded out of vc. No error, but also no feedback on vc. Side assist workes great.

Towbar: The old 2 connector towbar module is not accepted on the vc. I upgraded t the later 3 connector module. Error free now.

In the end: Nice upgrade, expencive as hell. But happy.

If you have BO sound system, you need to replace the amp with an MIB2 amp. Part number is 81axxx466B (can’t remember 3 middle digits...). You then need CP removing off the amp. This will get you back your subwoofer and bass controls (atm they are probably missing).

The Audi connect works on my PFL A3 with hacked MMI2. Google earth works fine too.

Map update start to download. It gets to 80% and says it will finish when car is parked etc but when i next check it still says its still the older 18/19 version. Probably need to install the 19, 19/20 before the 20 version??

On my hacked unit i could not instal the maps in the origional way.
I need to install by downloading the vw maps (discovery pro) and set an option from green menu.

There is also no need to first upgrade to 2019 or someting.

Good call!!
If you have the B&O you also need to upgrade the amp.

Also a lot of people complaining losing the sub adjustment on ***, i feel the sound is as good as the mib1. Sure it would be nice to have it. But not worth the B&O install and money, to me.

So what exactly do I need to complete the retro fit? I have a 2016 pfl S3 with B&O technics. Should I stay away from used VC on Ebay? Can I get away with not using a fl steering wheel with view button? Or just add it on pfl wheel?

To install vc with b&o:

New Mib2 (8v1035035)
Vc
bezel with reset button
Amp (mib2)
Usb
Lots of time coding.
Steering wheel with airbag to control vc
Middle console (not mandatory)
Mib high screen (some have this already)
VC mouting set and wiring (ali express)

Get VC on ebay?

Why not. You cannot change milage and cannot enable s or rs dials, And buy from good seller. A bricked vc because cp cannot be removed is not nice....

Mib2 on ebay?

Sure. Make sure its hacked already. (hacking cost arround 200.)

Amp on ebay, again be carefull.. Maybe the mib2 seller can help you..

Usb buy on ali

If you have DAB then no issues. If not buy antenna
Same with sim, if you have sim already, no issues, other buy the antennas.

I think its about time we stop talking about ODIS as something just anyone can get hold of please. Its professional licensed software that only authorised people can source let alone use, it has the potential to turn your vehicle in to an expensive pile of scrap in the hands of someone who does not know what they are doing and can also be used for more underhand works. ODIS is not something anyone can DIY legally and anyone without a unique and authorised dealership ID has obtained the application fraudulently.

That is true, but also ordinary vcds, vcp and obd11 can brick your car. Vcds and VCP can also be bought illegaly. And i think many here have them. Of course you need to know what you are doing.

There is a lot of information which is just thrown around on this forum and some of it is dangerous. People need to know this otherwise they could cause themselves massive and potentially expensive issues, so I think what I am saying is very useful thank you very much!

I think thats the point of a forum. To share.
I dont mind if you think a program or ways of working is dangerous. I also dont mind if you tell its dangerous, or that i must say its dangerous to use. Sometimes its the only way to get there.
Loads of people have it private.

Same as a computer. You could brick your pc upgrading the firmware, but you can do it yourself.

Indeed but you don't need to be authorised by VW group in order to use them. While you can indeed cause big issues to a vehicle, especially with VCP, you cannot use these applications for security related procedures which only an authorised person can do and which is part of a Virtual cockpit retrofit.

Talk about applications at this level cannot just be "banded around" in a blasé and indifferent fashion as people look to this forum for advice and could end up 1) breaking their vehicles and causing potential safety issues and 2) breaking the law. Ultimately people can do whatever they want but "the people that know" need to arm people with correct information with which "people" can make informed decisions on how they want to proceed. for god sake its like someone going to a heating forum and someone saying "yer mate, just buy these items from Ebay and then service your combination boiler, its only gas.... no need to worry"!

I’ve got the VC and MMI set up (hacked unit)

I started by copying the coding from my old unit onto my new unit, this gave my sound again but It felt like it was only half hearted and not punchy like I previously had (I don’t have B&O). If this doesn’t work, could I install a subwoofer to bring back some bass

I’ve searched on the forums the following coding for 5F module but I’m stuck at the stage on which code is right for my sound system”

Byte 11 Sound System

◦ 01 - Sound System

◦ 02 - B&O

Bytes 04/05 Sound System

◦ 00 00 - Base sound system

◦ FF 00 - Audi Sound System

◦ FF 0A - B&O

Wow your ID is genuine.....congratulations!

And now? Feeling high and mighty?

Should i post how you activate the Smartphone interface on the first unsupported C7.5 models? Or how you activate the satnav updates on 3GP units?

The problem with you is, is that you go full 100% in defensive mode when somebody talks about Odis. Yes you can brick something with Odis (and vcds, vcp, carly, obd11 etc), but everybody has to learn how to use it. Like you learned it, like i learned it and everybody else. And if they wreck something, lesson learned, wipe your teams.....And go to a specialist.

You only scare people in stead of helping/guiding them.

Mate,

Use the speaker part coding from your old unit. If you dont have B&O then the sound output has to be "internal amplifier".

After coding use VCP (dont use a clone) to parametrise your main unit with the A3FLaudiosettings zdc file or an Audi mib2 a3 audio zdc file. After parametrisation reboot the unit and everything will be fine.

Done it a lot of times. It wont affect the hacked part of your unit.

Yes, it is genuine, cheers. The process for gaining an authorised ID from VW Group is strict as they don't just hand them out. There are interviews, a CRB check and more. Having a genuine ID stands for a lot and allows you access to VW Groups systems and indeed support.

High and mighty no, genuine and legal yes :)

Should i post how you activate the Smartphone interface on the first unsupported C7.5 models? Or how you activate the satnav updates on 3GP units?

All customers are fully consulted and armed with the information they need in order to make a fully informed decision. Official options are always offered first, unofficial methods are offered if asked or indeed if official methods are just not possible. Not really sure what you point is here because these are not illegal, gaining access to a security controlled industry tool via unauthorised sources, a tool which can code keys, immobilisers, component protection and many other security functions is. Simple.

The problem with you is, is that you go full 100% in defensive mode when somebody talks about Odis. Yes you can brick something with Odis (and vcds, vcp, carly, obd11 etc), but everybody has to learn how to use it. Like you learned it, like i learned it and everybody else. While its true that I have a vested interest both as a professional, and indeed as a site sponsor, what you are saying is simply not true and ultimately people can do whatever they want to do. I advise that people should "visit a specialist" 1) because they should have the experience to be able to complete the job 2) they should have genuine access to any and all needed tools and applications. Using the VC retrofit as an example potentially you need a fair amount of tools and knowledge about everything that has been mentioned so far, and I was gonna add to the information before dangerous advice was being posted in such a carefree manner. The average person is gonna become very very stuck very very fast when attempting to complete these works as a total DIY. You say that people should download software from X, gain ODIS access for a few $ from Y. You say everyone has to learn how to use it... well NO. Myself, while I have gained experience on the job, I paid for a took training before even going close to a customers car with ODIS. Fact is its a controlled industry application which at its most basic needs a police criminal background check in order to gain!

Like you learned it, like i learned it and everybody else. And if they wreck something, lesson learned, wipe your teams.....And go to a specialist.

You learned it? Indeed, but YOU are a PROFESSIONAL as well, with genuine access so you say, so I would ****** well hope so! Lesson learned? Well yes, but it could be a very expensive lesson! There is a ton of stuff that this application can do that you cannot just wipe, start over and recover from and you know it, and that's one of my core points here..... trying to protect the users of this forum by not throwing around information that can potentially cause damage, safety issues, break the law etc!

Here is a question for you.... I ask £160 to code in a virtual cockpit. As someone who wants this added to your vehicle would you really want to spend the time trying to find access to ODIS software, trying to install it, purchasing a generic pass-thru interface for £80 or so, getting connected up, finding someone to purchase illegal access from for around $30, and then spending a good day or so trying to complete your installation, trying to muddle your way through ODIS, connection dropping often, credentials being revoked so you have to purchase access again at further expense, and once you have your VC installed and coded you log off and go for a drive and find that all of your vehicles FEC codes have been wiped out by the CP and service IMMO functions so need to purchase further time, connect up and restore your functions (if you know what to do) etc etc etc or would you rather visit an authorised, experienced and in my case fully insured retrofitter who would do the job in a couple of hours for a £160.00?

Bottom line is, as much as you may want to help you have a responsibility as a professional not to throw around information which is potentially dangerous!

Something doesnt feel right here. After posting how to get an clone odis from famous chinese website i was bashed by Djalix that i was using illegal software and that people could damage their cars.

Today i found that Djalix himself is using putty to load illegal patches and fecs into the car. This itself is getting more and more breakin in cars and must be in conflict with several VAG copyrights.. And even if the car supports it, if you cant buy the activation code its still illegal.
Everything he does is legal is not really the truth anymore...

So cut the BS, please.

............way out of order. Alix goes above & beyond to help. I travelled to T-1000 workshop for Alix to do the work remotely from his place. Not only did he correct some of a main dealer **** ups, he activated things Main dealer said was not possible along with other things. All the time Alix & T-1000 were very professional with the work. The price is worth every penny & still far cheaper then any dealer so no need for the insults you throw.

I need to learn something about cutting and retrofit brackets. Are you still with us?

How is this VC held tight in place? Any trim noise, stutter etc.? Is it only assembled from the bottom bracket points to the dashboard, nothing on the upper side to support?

Does anybody know how the original VC assembled on the dashboard? As I see from the parts list, the part number of the dashboard is different for analogue clusters and virtual cockpit. I suppose the VC dashboard has some support points on top side of the dash inside.

I have doubts about this retrofit in the long term in fact. Because once you cut the dash, there is no turning back to the original analgue cluster, right?

Sean partridge

New Member
yes once you have cut the dash you will need to relace dash to fit analogue dials again. you can buy mounting kit to secure vc at the bottom.
