is this the right oil?

If you're sticking with the manufacturers recommended oil specification, this is the salient detail: VW 504 00/507 00

Check your service book to see what it states to use, as it will give the 'VW' specification number. That looks right for your engine though.

Personally, I'd use a better quality oil like this though.

Quantum Oil is what all the VAG dealers use so you can’t go too far wrong with it! Pretty sure it’s rebranded Castrol. Yeah that’s the correct oil I have the same engine it’s what was used for my service.

Castrol used to make the Quantum oil but, it's now made by Fuchs.

Of course it will do it's job as an engine oil but there are better quality oils out there. The one linked being one of them. And I'd suggest the dealers use it more for what it costs them, than for whether it's the best oil for the job or not...

Fuchs or Castrol it's a good quality oil . I have been using Quantum long life in my 3.0 TDI A4 for the last few years and used it in my Passat before that. The oil is made to meet the same minimum spec 504 /507 which is a high spec oil. Either oil will be fine.
