Hi all,

Simple stupid question, how can't I tell if my b7 a4 avant 2.0tfsi Quattro is a special edition?

Thanks
Darren

two tone leather, black headliner are good clues that its special edition

Trying to post pic but won't let me. It's got, two tone leather, black roof lining and the wheels are multi spoke

chassis number under the bonnet will clarify and most accurate as a lot of items get changed , two tone leather is not a deffo fitment as a lot had single colour trim level, mine has black valcona seat trim and door material which was an option on special eds and is much more suple than some leather trims.
also depends on what model yours is deisel or petrol
2.0tfsi special eds came with drilled front disks but may have been changed along the way, theres a lot of items but chassis number is most reliable.

sounds like it too me, what about things like bose sound system? 'BUL' engine code also (220 hp one same as dtm I believe)? maybe headlight washers tto?

like this
A41

yep, bul engine which is different spec to others same as used in DTM's, normally black exhaust tips if they havent been changed.

if yours is it would have been made at the RS factory so the chassis tag under the bonnet will confirm this.

look behind your air box on the left were your air-con pipes run there should be a silver tag. On that tag it should say quattro GmbH. with your vin number etc.

Great stuff thanks guys. I didn't buy it knowing it was a special edition but I'm chuffed that it is.

yep, you either get a good one, or, a total ********************************************** , that said mine is now behaving itself and has been for a for a while.
I must say though, despite all the issues i encountered early on in my ownership it is a great car and i love driving it, i still think its one of the best mid range small engined fast estates on the road, dont count S4 and RS4 into that as they are brill aswell but a different animal all together, but otherwise i rate the B7 avant top of the list, just my input though.
have you any mods in mind.

Hopefully mine is okay then..fingers crossed.

What kind of issues could I expect to have or are there too meny to list...

no easy answer to that ,you could have a high milage with no issues at all or like myself a very low milage (29k when purchased) one previous owner car and have more problems that you could shake a stick at, i personally think i was really unlucky to get a friday afternoon special but it does happen.
What milage are you at and did the car come with any service history etc and reciepts for work carried out to date, hopefully you'll be fine but these cars do have there weak spots and it may be wise to have a look through this site just to be clear what problems may arise , you may well have a problem free ownership , but, to be forewarned is to be forearmed as they say, one could argue that they are no worse or less reliable than other brands and models, so its all relavant i supose.
get some pics uploaded chap , and enjoy it.

by the way, is your tailgate debadged or not, mine was from the factory and it does suit the tailgate better to be free from badges to be honest, i have just one very small black with red text "Quattro " on the tailgate , bottom right hand corner so very sutle which i afixed.

Thanks bud. It's a high mileage one 117k. Full service history but not receipts to back it up.

Every time I try to upload a pic from my phone it gives me an error message. Any ideas?

thats not that high chap, and its probably had a lot of possible issues allready carried out by now.
maybe the pic file size is to large for the forum to accept, maybe a lower size file would be fine.

No it's not debadged mate, still got the full badges on.

There is one thing I'm trying to source for it if you know anywhere what I might be work contacting? It need a new drivers door external handle trim.

It's actually broken off. The handle its self is fine just the exterior trim part is broken.

ah ok, i was curious if you suffered from the rattling handle trim problem.
ebay has a fair few as it fits a lot of models.

Sounds like it could be the same as my one

I bought one last month (not an Avant) and I love it.
Its gone in for a small oil leak and the garage reckon the blocks been drilled and re-filled with liquid metal, the crankshaft has movement and to top that the head is AXX not BUL.
This is with a car with a full yearly service history, new disks, brakes and the cambelt etc has been done.
Its on 76000 miles now and is immaculate and drives and goes beautifully.
All the stickers are there and I've checked the chassis number, apparently the first 3 letters are round the other way proving whether they are SE's, WUA and not WAU. They were made in the Quattro GmBH factory not the main one.
The timing cover etc is BUL.

To say I'm gutted is an understatement.
:(

also, a bit more info.
The A4 B7 DTM & The A4 B7 quattro special edition 220bhp (saloon & avant) were the only non S or RS models made by quattro GmbH see below for more info.

quattro GmbH is a wholly owned private subsidiary of the German automobile manufacturer AUDI AG,[1][3][4][5] part of the Volkswagen Group.

Founded in October 1983,[1] it primarily specialises in producing high performance Audi cars[2] and components,[1] along with purchaser specified customisations.[1] The company takes its name as an homage to Audi's original four-wheel drive rally-inspired road car – the Audi Quattro, and in bowing to this, always spells its 'quattro GmbH' name with a leading lower-case 'q'.

It is located in a 3,500 square metres (37,670 sq ft) site at Neckarsulm,[3] near Stuttgart, in the German State of Baden-Württemberg. With over twenty years experience,[1] their own development and manufacturingfactories[2] are based within the larger 10,700 square metres (115,170 sq ft) site of the now defunct German automotive maker (and Wankel pistonless rotary engine pioneer) NSU Motorenwerke AG (NSU), on what is now known as Audi's "aluminium plant", or aluminium site.

Although "quattro GmbH" as a company may be relatively unknown, compared to its parent, Audi, its core products include the Audi RS4, the Audi RS6 and the Audi R8. Furthermore, it is a 'closed company', in that it does not sell its automobiles directly to the public via franchised outlets under its own brand name; instead, they are sold under the Audi marque. However, it does now sell 'quattro GmbH' branded lifestyle products and accessories via Audi franchised outlets and Audi Forum such as that located in the Allianz Arena on the northern outskirts of Munich, Germany

quattro GmbH has historically only been able to produce one specific model at a time at its sole plant at Neckarsulm. Chronologically, the first quattro GmbH model produced was the Audi RS2 Avant, a joint venture betweenPorsche and quattro GmbH, from 1994-1996 (and actually built at Porsche's Zuffenhausen plant). After this initial joint venture, all subsequent cars have been solely (with the exception of the Audi TT RS) produced at Neckarsulm by quattro GmbH. The second car was the C4 S6 Plus, produced from April 1996 to July 1997. Third was the 2000-2001 B5 RS4 Avant quattro; fourth was the 2003 C5 RS6 quattro; fifth was the 2005 B7 A4 DTM Edition saloon. Sixth out of quattro GmbH was the 2006 B7 RS4 quattro, seventh out of quattro GmbH was the 2006 B7 S4 25Quattro, the eighth was the A4 S Line Special Edition (with 220PS upgrade, black optics pack, ventilated cross-drilled front disc brakes, black exhaust pipes, two tone leather interior) and, as of 2009, the ninth and latest offering is the 2008 C6 RS6 5.0 TFSI quattro.[2][3][5]

That's interesting.

Always wondered about mine. 06' A7 B7 2.0 Tdi S-line saloon but on the V5 it says Special Edition.

Its got the black Valcona leather and black headlining which I thought was only on the SE but as the plate was normal Audi thought it wasn't. Maybe it's only the tfsi ones that were from the quattro factory.

Is your Vin number WAU or WUA?
:)

WUA is the code for cars made by quattro GmbH , WAU are Audi production line.

B7 2.0 TDi may be special edition but will be WAU from audi.
Valcona is an extra option on special editions where ever they were made, its one of the better trim levels in my opinion, lovely and supple, mine has it also.

Yup, mines WUA.
:)

not sure mines goes any better though even if it was made by such a legendary company, but one can hope so.....

what i have found is that parts fitted to this model do vary a bit, for example, a short time after getting mine i rushed out and ordered an RS4 ARB for my avant based on threads i had read on here, after getting it home and about to fit it when i realised i allready had one fitted.
after a fair bit of backtracking it turned out it was factory fitted and was informed that not all cars may have been produced exactly to the same spec, depending on parts available etc, hence why i allready had the rs4 size arb.
I am still waiting to find out what else is non standard on it for its model/variant.

Mines WAU but as you said being TDi that's right.ù

Did a bit more digging and there was a v1 for the 2006 56 model and then a v2 from 2007.

Mine is sounding like it might be as have the S-line badge on the steering wheel and S-line kick plate trims that from what I've read is a good indicator for a V1.

Not got the RS4 wheels though (has the fat fives) but again might be because it's a tdi.

What ever I'm not really fussed as its a lovely car with good spec. Just be interesting to know the factory spec and how many were actually built. The Valcona leather is so soft!!
