Not a nice shock to find that insurance on my A3 seems to have gone up by a good £130 despite me adding another years no claims and now having turned 30!

I paid £350 last year. Admiral (who have been the cheapest for me over the past 7 years or) now want £470 to renew! That's on line too where its normally cheaper. I dread to think what there paper renewal will be!

Anyhow, Compare the market have thrown up Chaucer direct as best, quoting £355. Anyone used them before out of interest ?

Just had my renewal through and mines gone down by £72... That will do nicely!

Try E-sure Tim - they have matched lower quotes for me for the last 2 years

Admiral aren't charging me any extra this year, but I've added wheels and brakes to the policy. Think the year is actually around 30p cheaper than last year.

I find it odd as Admiral are always cheapest for me. It might be that they match the Chaucer price, but this is the first time in years Admiral have been quite a bit more than a lot of other companies for me.

Expecting my renewal in a week or so, dreading it!

Give Adrian Flux a go... been with them for years.
I noticed last week they are now a forum sponsor also, contacted them to see if I would have received any further discount being a member of audi-sport and they said yes and have just sent me a refund. bonus!

400quid , I'd be the jumping with joy. Im touching 2k with 4 years no claims, I must be a fool thinking about it

Elephant cheapest for me.
Same company as Admiral, but have always been slightly cheaper in my experience..

AXA for me. cheapest plus they'll insurance me with a speeding ban and other points :hi:

Go to a Swinton branch or phone direct. They will do their best to help

As it happens E Sure came up next cheapest at £395 for me.
My mate used them, some woman in a 4x4 wrote off his vectra, they said just send the v5 to them not filled in,the car is up and down the country picking up fines which DVLA have given him a letter to respond with.

I was told that most insurance quotes have gone up by up to 30% this year.

I use a broker called A-Plan and after a bit of a haggle they got my insurance company's renewal down to similar money to what I paid last year.

I think you just have to hassle these people a bit and not just except the first figure they offer you. I suppose they're just banking on people not being bothered to haggle and paying the new price they see!

So true

Yeah I'll third that. Premiums are going up year on year because of the rise in personal injury claims amongst other things. They would love everybody to take their renewal quote each year without query.
Give them a call with your cheapest quote and see what they say.

A plan were good for me when I had my heavily modded TT, not tried them since I sold it though as the regular companies always seem to be cheaper than the specialists/ brokers for me on more standard cars.

My renewal came up with £1.8k - that's with Quinns and I have 2 years no claims lol. This was the cheapest lol! Fml

I feel for you tim but im paying £1000 for my 1.6 fsi a3 if that makes you feel better, I'm just lucky I'm 21 in may so my insurance drops about £400 but was a big smack in the face when that was the cheapest.

Tim,

The same happened to me earlier in the year.
My insurance was £650 and they quoted a renew price of £725!
Anyway after comparing a few quotes the cheapest I got was £630, think it was from Elephant.
When i rang to cancel my insurance they said they'll beat Elephants quote to renew for £590.

Worth a ring a see what they can do.
Admrial have always been the cheapest for me for the last few years on different cars.

Im paying just over £2k on my A4 Avant - im 23, 5years NCB!

I never, ever renew without using a price comparison - once you're in, they try to charge you more to renew hoping that you'll just assume they're cheapest again without checking. Most of the time, you can get a cheaper quote from the same company on a price comparison site!

Admiral/Elephant/Bell are consistently the cheapest for me (they're the same company under different names, with slightly different target markets). The only company even vaguely friendly toward younger drivers.

flol @ some of the prices in here.

£400ish, 21 - 170 S-tronic Black Edition. 3 accidents and 2 years ncb.

I have tried different comparison sites and find confused.com to be cheaper, my second car is with A Plan as others have mentioned but on a classic policy with wife on it as my no claims are on Audi. Just turned 50 so gone down for me, this year Churchills are cheapest and they give named driver 3 years ncb.

Its not that bad! £130 increase, its only a tank and a half of fuel.

I used to be with Admiral (several years) but last year they took the p..s. I went with a recomendation off this forum with a broker called Primo PLC in Southend on Sea and saved just over £600 for my 3 vehicles. Think my insurance is with Chaucer through this broker.

Heard lots of bad reviews about Admiral. Everything is fine till you make a claim. Check out reviews on Internet. Not good reading.

That's the proof of any insurance. It's not the cost of the premium but the level of service you can and should expect when you claim!

I was with Chaucer a few years ago with another A3. Had a claim when a woman ran into me. My car was only 2 months old. I was sock. Anyway the car got sorted quick enough but it took 18 months to settle the claim in my favour and recover my excess. Kept saying the other car didn't exist. So might be worth being careful. Go Compare we're cheap for me this year. I think the underwriter is 1st Click insurance. Goodluck

Actually had 4 accidents while being insured with Admiral and every time it was resolved very quickly without issue. (not all my fault btw).

I wouldn't be so sure if 21 makes the price any lower now a days mate I find most companys find 25 the more cheaper/sensible age now :( but my insurance this year is looking to be just under 800 with 3years no claims at 23 :) so Im happy and I have not even contacted Sky Insurance yet so hopefully they can better that :D

21 didn't make a penny difference for me. It was the jump from holding a license from 3 years to 4 years that made the difference.

Insured with Chaucer in the end for £406, with the few small mods I have declared and a few extras added on the policy. Was the best I could muster. Although had a bit of CBA syndrome to call around too much this year.

Admiral did their usual applying discounts etc over the phone when pestered (which annoys the hell out of me that they do this when you threaten them with leaving) but it was still £50 more.

Try harder next year Admiral.

Just a thought - Admiral/Elephant/Bell seem happier with younger drivers, it may be that hitting the 30 age point means that you're more attractive to Chaucer, but drop out of a target market Elephant/Admiral/Bell are targeting, so they offer you less of a discount while Chaucer offer more.
