Has anyone changed or had their instrument cluster (speedo) changed on their b6 S4 or A4?
Mine is faulty (S4) and i was wondering how easy it is to change.

Cheers

yeah mate i had mine changed about a year ago no probs changing it .was a bit of a pain codeing it to the car though.quite a pricey part if i remember right about £480 :faint:depending whether you have the colour dis or not.
So if you're handy with the old vag com it shouldn't be to bad.

Ali

They can be repaired.
BBA reman or clusterrepairs.......

hopefully one of the sparky's will pip up soon, but I think a repair is easier than a replace - quite a bit of extra coding that needs doing if it's a new cluster...

Send a pm to shark_90. I am sure he appears on here sometimes or he is definitely on tyresmoke.net. He will be able to advise and help you out.

I've been told that if it gets repaired theres a chance it could fail again pretty quickly.

Can you remember what had to be removed to get it out?
£530 i've been told by wolvo Audi.
I have vag-com but only used it to diagnose this fault. Should make it's money back with this fault though

don't think it's a big job taking it out just a couple of screws above the stearing colum behind the rubber gaiter. Then a couple of big multi plugs. But as said the coding was a bit tricky

YES YES YES!! shark_90 sorted me out! excellent guy, cant recommend him enough!!

I saved about 700, yes 700 quid using him instead of audi! For a cluster change including sorting all the imobiliser stuff out. Just buy a used cluster off ebay and he does the rest.

I have been in touch with him and he has been really helpful, the problem i have is finding a used cluster. Can't find any cars in scrap yards close to me.
I've found a company in Dorset (autotek) who can repair or sell 2nd hand unit's but have been warned off them.

Don't touch Autotek with a barge pole mate they are absolutely useless. I used them a couple of times for faulty ecu's, came back as they went faulty in the end i started using BBA reman never had a problem with them yet.

I've seen the one in the states but it's £185 and i think it could be a bit of a risk. it's a shame i've not got a B5, seen plenty of those for around £40.
Cheers for the link though.
I'm getting a bit sweaty now cause the m.o.t is due soon and i think they will fail the car if the light comes on.

Dunc

I get the air bag light come on after 10 mins.
Will post the fault codes up in a minute

Ah I see, things just getting their knickers in a twist because of the immobiliser playing up.

I know it's not ideal but what about putting a normal A4 cluster in just as a stop gap until you can find an S4 one?

The car still runs ok. The only way i know it has a fault is the air bag light coming on and it also seem's that the 2nd position for the display (mil,av mil, time of driving) has stopped working.
Would still like it done A.S.A.P

Well it looks like i have had the bargain of the century. Managed to bag me a new cluster for a USA s4 (only difference is it says unleaded fuel only in the gauge and there is no 90o in the temp gauge) for £36 delivered!!!! Ebay rules for once.
Anyway, popped up to see Ben aka shark_90 in mansfield today and he fixed the car within 30 mins. He replaced the cluster and reprogrammed it and all works good.
I would highly recommend him to anyone who needs anything doing to the electrics on thier car.
Thanks again Ben for a superb job

Dunc

edit (forgot to say nice to meet the other 2 guy's there aswell and hope audi sorted your car, soory but i have forgotten your names:banghead:)

Yeah Audi did manage to sort the car out in the end, 2nd melted coil pack in as many days but this time it took a 20A fuse out with it too! Audi Assist turned up with a new coil and Dan left with a few extra bhp and a smile on his face :) I'll pass on your regards.

It was nice to meet you and your S4 is lurrvely.

So it was you who outbidded me! ;)

The hunt continues! :beerchug:

There are others out there. I didn't want to pay too much for a USA cluster just in case it didn't work but anything under £250 is a good buy now i think.
You can buy my old cluster off me if you want and try and get it repaired, that way your motor won't be off the road??

I'm only joking! I'll find one - the car works, I want to upgrade from red DIS to colour cluster, that's all I want it for!

Chas

chas - yours a petrol / diesel?

It's a petrol, manual... S4 cluster would be fine, the only issue being the slightly different redline start, but other than that, perfect..
