Inspection service - includes oil or no?

This may seem a stupid question but I've seen everything from "yes it does" to "it's just a visual inspection" and there's nothing clear on the Audi site. I've been quoted £260 by my dealer for the inspection service and had assumed this included an oil change (which is due in 30 days anyway) - is this the case or am I getting stung twice?

I’m on fix servicing and been quoted £339.00 for the second year service and inspection plus another £149.00 for the air con service. Not a figure I want to pay so will be ring round to get a better price.

Forget aircon service. If you use it regularly and it's working - leave well alone.

Price for service is a joke!

Are you on fixed or flexible servicing?

I'd assume this is oil and inspection.

My dealer quoted £270 (oil & inspection at 18k miles). When I said their price was way too high they said they would price match. I got an email quote from an Indy for £140 and they matched it.

I'm on fixed servicing as I don't do huge mileage and it's mostly commuter traffic. I had it serviced last Sept (when it wasn't asking for it but the car was a year old) and it's now demanding an inspection, with oil change showing for 30 days hence. I asked them when it was first serviced to move it to annual.

The only way to be sure is to check with the dealer.

Also look at getting the price reduced. Half their quoted price is still to much.

When mine was done I asked if I could come in for them opening and wait while they did it. They told me it took 4 or 5 hours. They texted me less than 2 hours later to tell me the car was ready.

Is that £140 for oil & inspection?

    I've just been quoted
    £264 for oil
    £195 for inspection
    £65 for brake fluid

Car has done 14k, had a full service 12 months ago costing £500+ (done 4,000 miles since)
These prices are ridiculous at best, but is the work even due yet?

I've emailed 3 local independents for quotes

Mines booked in for an inspection service with an oil change at a cost of £285.
I will be getting some other prices to play the price down if possible because it is still over inflated for what is mainly a visual check

Yes. Inspection service with oil change for a price matched £140 including vat. They were required together at 18k miles as the car is on flexible service.
Audi service prices are an absolute farce if you pay what they ask in the first place.

If you are on fixed service it is 9k (10k?) Intervals or 12 months - whichever comes first o think.

This is the normal confusion over Audi servicing regime, they want money for inspections and then money for separate oil changes and everything in between. The customer also has the inconvenience of warnings like yours coming on soon after already being in for work and then having to book and visit them again.
Many of us on this forum departed the main dealers and went to good quality independents, many of those adhere to an inspection list that is IMO far better than Audi, and they include that inspection on every interim or alternate major service and for a fraction of the price. A good indy will always use oem parts and therefore you have absolutely no problems with the warranty being maintained. It used to be said that only Audi could provide electronic service records, but some independents can now, and in fact it appears that Audi are having problems with the availability of the service records anyway.
Find your self a good independent and build a good relation ship with them, getting your car looked after how you want it to be.

So I called this morning and was told no - if I needed an oil change, it's now a major service and £360 and if I want a price match I need a written (email acceptable) quote for them to match, stating that OEM parts will be used. I've only got two days to get this and it's got to be within 20 miles of Bolton. The Kwik Fit website comes in £100 or so under this and claims they use OEM parts - do you think they'll use this for a match?

Rang round 3 local Audi dealers and that £360 was the cheapest in the area. :(

Worth a try but I doubt they'll accept Halfords quote.

Google Audi specialist and find one close by.

£360 is a total joke. TBH I would be reluctant to give them any business #robbers !

Mine's in for an "inspection service" today. No oil change is included, £210. In fact, my car was on variable servicing and has already had an oil and filter change earlier this year. I do under 10,000 miles a year and asked to be moved to fixed interval servicing so that everything is done once in a year but when the first oil change was done the inspection was not due.

Think our situation is similar - I asked them to be moved to fixed service last year when it was serviced.

Got a quote for £260 stating they'll use only original audi parts and oil. Sounds like they won't accept it without it being on official garage letterhead with parts listed. Nobody's going to give me that as they'll know what it's for. Joke.

Wow, I spoke to the service department on site who advised actually it's £390 as it needs a pollen filter which is included in neither the inspection nor the oil change. And no they won't price match unless a full itemised list of parts is provided. They also explicility stated they won't price match the halford/kwik fit website, it has to be a personalised quotation.

Am reading that right that they want another £130 to supply and fit the pollen filter???? My indy charged me £17.72 for an oem pollen filter in June so that should give you some idea of the fitting cost they are trying to charge you. The only way they will ever become competitive is if a few more of us walk away from the ridiculous prices they are charging.
    I'll stop ranting now!

So I was originally quoted £260 for inspection service, which I'd assumed included an oil change.
I was then quoted £360 to include the oil change
Then they've just said it's another £30 for the pollen filter making a total of £390 as it's apparently in neither the inspection service nor the oil change.

I got a quote for the work at £260 which they won't accept as it needs to be on a garage's letterhead and with itemised parts. Who's going to give you that? The price match isn't worth the paper it's written on.

You raise a very important point. The price match doesn't work because independents are not prepared to produce quotes on headed paper for you to take in to Audi. Why would they do that and then lose business? If the market is broken and there is insufficient competition (i.e the consumer is being ripped off) then maybe this is something that the Consumers' Association (Which?) would take on (Which? is a super-complainer and could do this if enough people raised the issue with them).

Best they'll do is £320 inc VAT, having sent them the £260 price from an independent which they rejected.

I am interested in this topic as my first service is due shortly - I have done approx. 10k miles in 2 years and rightly or wrongly am on variable servicing. I have the first service as a complimentary one so hopefully no cost! My mmi display is showing both the oil and inspection service due within about 300 miles of each other so obviously I want to push for the inspection service as I understand this is the more detailed one.

What I don't understand is surely all inspection services include an oil change as otherwise what are you actually paying for?

Below is a web link that indicates this or have I misunderstood

Best quote I have from local specialist is £191, for inspection, Oil & filter, pollen filter , Brake fluid service. I'll be going with that.

Just an observation.....we would qualify for the under 2.0L price but it states that it's not available for S engines.

I have a complimentary first service as well, counting down till the middle of March (when my car had its pdi but wasn't registered till I picked it up in May). This according to the mmi is for oil but the inspection is exactly 365 days after that so I am on fixed annual servicing and every service will include an oil change.
Reading some of the prices here I'm glad I won't be paying for my first service, but am already concerned about cost of second. :(

Although my car has an easy life and flexible suits it I'll be trading it in or handing it back before it's due a second service.

So total service cost on my 3 year pcp will be £140.

Does Audi UK not offer service plans? My Audi Canada 4 year service plan covers annual servicing , including Haldex service, etc. at a fixed cost. My S3 4 year plan cost in 2017 with conversion from CDN dollars to Sterling was 450 quid. Also, the services can be done by any Audi dealership, not just the selling dealer.

To cap it all off, I got there for when they opened to find nobody had a key to get in the building so everyone was stuck outside. Upshot - they knocked some money off and it came it £290. Still too much but only £30 more than the Audi specialist who they initially refused to price match.

I am wondering how your car can go 2 years before needing any kind of service?
Cars that do a low annual mileage should be on a fixed annual service schedule.
Your annual mileage is almost exactly the same as mine.

That's just a recommendation. If the car isn't screaming for a service why bother going in annually?

Fully synthetic oil doesn't go off like milk so if you are not doing continual stop start driving I would be happy to wait until the variable service system says a service is due.

that's exactly my thoughts - I probably should be on fixed servicing but the default is variable and I take the view that if the car is that desperate for an earlier service it will tell me

If you are doing longer journeys a couple of days a week how could they refuse? They algorithms in the car will let you know when servicing is required.

Joke they have 2 systems. BMW don't bother with nonsense like this.
