Had my 66reg FL A3 just shy of 2 years now and a few weeks ago it flagged up for Inspection and Oil change.

Got a quote of £365 from Audi Wolverhampton... which I wasn’t expecting. But have heard about the price match and got all the details to get quotes elsewhere. Believe I just need a Inspection Service and Oil change with a change of oil filter which has to be a Castrol Edge 5W30.

Anyone from the Midlands area (Birmingham, Wolverhampton ideally) know of anywhere I could get a decent quote from?

Cheers!

Edinburgh Audi matched a price of £140 for the oil & inspection in April.

What really is madness is the prices Audi dealers are happy to charge!

Also.. who can I get in touch with to confirm the written quote to price match would be acceptable?

Just got a feeling I will take it to the dealer and they’ll blag it off.

I had my inspection service with oil change done today.
The original quote was for £320, the best they could do apparently was £285 and when it was all done it came to £247 lol......go figure!

I've used MidlandsVW before (not on this car though) and they've always been really good and reasonably priced too. Might be a bit too far from Wolverhampton for a price match though. Have you tried Stafford Audi?

Haven’t tried Stafford Audi mate, trying to keep it as close to home as possible (Dudley). Maybe worth giving them a call though to see what price they could offer.

Just had a look online at MidlandsVW and they are just close enough to Wolverhampton Audi for the price match so I’ll try get in touch with them!

Need to get agreement in advance.

Take it I have to ring through to the dealer and tell them I’ve got a quote from elsewhere and send it through to them then so they can agree it?

Yes. That's what I had to do.

I sent an email to the Indy detailing exactly what I needed done (got service info from Audi UK - posted on here if you search for it) and the Indy replied to that email. I then forwarded that to someone in service department.

Oh that’s easy enough.

I’ve got a quote of £133.20 from an Audi Specialist so said they’ll do everything to Manufacturers spec because of it being in warranty so oil and parts will be genuine!

Take it I’ll have to get them to put it into a headed email to send to Audi?

If the quote is an email just forward it to the Audi service adviser.

Nice one!

I’ll have to ring up today and ask for an email address I can send it over to for confirmation.

So I spoke to Audi today about what’s required for the price match.

Got told I need a full quote on a headed document with all details of what is to be done to the car (inspection and oil change) and that they need to provide the oil they are putting in along with a part number for the change in oil filter.

Asked if I could have just an email from them saying this but it’s just a normal email no headed email with company details and wouldn’t accept it.

Issue now is trying to get the garage to send me a full quote on letter headed paper. Surely they will click on that this is what Audi do to get the price match guaranteed with them???

Indeed.

You are asking an independent garage to provide a quote for work that they will never do, knowing full well that if Audi get anywhere close to it you'll simply b*gger off and take the car to the dealership.

So what's in it for the nice people at the independent workshop who've taken the time to furnish you with this quote?

Absolutely sod all.

I wouldn't even dream of asking the independent outfit I use to do this. I've spent far too long building a relationship of mutual trust with them to jeopardise it by asking them to perform tricks solely for my benefit.

If I ran an independent specialist and somebody asked me to dash them off a quote so that they could get the main dealer price knocked down, I'd politely point out the large rectangular hole in the wall through which they entered, and suggest that they use it to leave.

Audi aren't stupid. They knew all this stuff when they made their price match offer.

They’ve got you from the off really haven’t they?

Yeah that’s understandable. This is my first inspection and oil change with the car so for me I’d rather go direct with Audi. Otherwise I would use the independent specialist as they are good (from what I’ve heard from a few friends).

I wonder how many people have been told to clear off from the garage knowing full well what’s happening? Audi should just reduce the price to be competitive across the board save you going anywhere else... but that wouldn’t make them enough money in there eyes!

I don't get the impression though that Audi service departments are struggling to find customers, the wait is usually almost a month for me at Audi Reading which has a brand new and very large service area.
Suppose if they aren't struggling for business, high price it is.

Yeah very true.

Only thing I find weird is that I’ve found people are paying less than I’ve been quoted from Audi and they live in London or big cities?! I know Wolverhampton is a city but come on compared to ones in London I’d think Wolverhampton would’ve been cheaper!

As long as there are enough business customers - fleet or otherwise - who will happily pay the higher amount, Audi have no incentive to reduce their prices.

Maintenance costs are an expense which business users can offset against tax (as a self-employed person I can do this to a degree), and any VAT registered business can reclaim the VAT element as well.

Private buyers don't have this luxury, and have to swallow the whole amount.

I suppose you could make a case for Audi reducing the cost of servicing to those punters who are opening up their own wallets rather than handing the invoice to an accounts department, but then those same business users would be up in arms about paying more than a private owner for the same service and threatening to take their custom to a different manufacturer.

And no sizeable car maker can survive without fleet sales.

After all of this.. sent the quote with all part numbers and prices... spoke to Audi and they wouldn’t accept it.

Been told to supply parts myself from TPS.. rang them and wouldn’t send me a pro forma with all the info but happily give me all the prices and part numbers over the phone

Can’t wait for this all to be sorted to be honest... absolute nightmare at the moment!

The price match is an utter scam. I wonder if anyone has considered paying their local indie £10 for the detailed quote while being totally upfront about the circumstances just to see if they'll ever honour it. I do think a couple of us complaining to the ASA about the nature of the price match might wake them up.

Very true. Would be worth a try but don’t think they would be best pleased with it and I wouldn’t go back to them again!

Luckily I’ve come out on top with it all... a friend of a friend works at the garage I’ve booked in for so I’ve managed to get the parts for £30 through TPS (nightmare sorting it) but they will charge for the labour which won’t even be £100 “apparently”... will find out today what the crack is with it and how much I’m paying in total I believe!
