Immobiliser issue

Hi I have recently started having an issue with the immobiliser light, occasionally when I put the key into the ignition and turn the ignition on the immo light will start flashing, if I turn the ignition off and on again it stops, the strange thing is if I try starting the car when the light is flashing it will start and run fine and light stops flashing. It seems to be happening more often as time goes on. I haven’t done anything to do with programming the key it just randomly started doing it. I also only have one key!! Just worried it might get to the point that it won’t start. Thanks

Scanning the instruments cluster for fault codes will help diagnose this but I suspect its an issue with the pickup ring or reader coil in the ignition barrel...

A few others on here have discussed this before I believe and seems to be a fairly common issue with Mk4 chassis cars (Golf etc)

Don't personally know what the fix is but scan for fault codes first and see what pops up...
