I'm in trouble...your advice please!

Apart from the alarm going off and dash display showing the boot to be open,ive now got a couple of other issues.......when i switch on the ignition....only sometimes il get the dash lights turning on and off by themselves,sometimes when cars running theres no dash lights or heaters.

Also when i turn the ignition on the fan kicks in,then go's off then on again randomly,also the handbrake light and the battery light constantly flash when ignition is on......any ideas?

Sounds like you need a diagnosic scan, this should reveal a list of issues and you can go from there.

17978 engine blocked by immobilizer p1570-000- intermittent THIS CAME UP WHEN I TURNED ON THE IGNITION AND NO DASH LIGHTS LIT UP AND I TRIED TO START THE CAR.....WHEN I TURNED OFF IGNITION AND RETRIED IT STARTED OK.

Wonder if you've got a dodgy immo chip or the barrel & coil are faulty, what about your 2nd key?

2nd thoughts make me think barrel as this would affect dash not lighting up properly given it switches several circuits on at varying positions.

YES but if it were the key i wouldnt start and soon as ignition is on or car is started fan kicks in coming on and off randomly,battery light flashing and handbrake light flashing and just this 1 fault

A/c controller is that air-con ? is that why fan is kicking in?

I'd disconnect the power connector to the rear tailgate lock. Scan/clear & see if what it says incase there is a short feeding back along the canbus. I'd also try to tell the car you dont have any aircon in the central electrics module too and see what it says.

As the barrel switches several circuits & you have had an immo error I'm thinking it could be this given all the fairy lights you're getting cause if those circuits are shorting then it could be turning things on & off which would cause these IMHO mate, its speculative but thought process is possible from my knowledge of the barrel circuits from my RS4 Start Button mod.

Given the errors present with these issues it would seem related & given the ignition systems switch everything on then it could cause all kinds of issues, I've got a steering column with barrel etc still attached I had leftover from some parts I bought ages ago, fits an a3 04-07 certainly way cheaper than dealer if interested to work with, of course you'd need to swap parts over from old barrel but you'd have to do this anyway huh, just this route is cheaper & climate issues wouldnt IMHO cause the dash to keep flashing away like an xmas tree, but happy to be proved wrong, climate faulty isnt exactly that cheap to replace either.

I take it its not actually the barrel you mean, its the elecrical connector that the barrel turns LOL. Athough not having looked they may be one piece though I hope not or out comes Mr drill.

I've seen fauly connectors behind the barrel before, usually its the starter that no longer works probably due to a bit more load going through it?

Mmmm, you might have a break in the CAN bus as you can't talk to many of the modules in the car. What happened before it started to do this?

dash showed boot lid as being open, then alarm,then it was,gauges on clocks/dash ,then 1 fault after another,car has been parked for 6days without moving when it was -8 in ice/snow,before that it was 100% drove it for an hour yesterday drives ok. Took bootlid lock/latch off wd40'd it put it bag plugged connecter back on and was still showing boot as open so i ordered another lock but never got round to picking it up/fitting it.

What can i do now any ideas ?

I wonder if your central electronics unit is damaged? But I'm just guessing here, I think it needs someone with specialist knowledge.

TBH if a module cant be reached it would suggest either canbus not working so damaged wire or no power to those modules, it could be an issue with the barrel/ignition, the can gateway module behind the glovebox, as the gateway module runs the bus anyway iirc, I am not convinced its the 09 central electrics board atm, but as Mark says it could be weather related, you are going to need elsa & maybe some 2nd user module/s to swap to test.

You could try disconnecting some modules & see if the rest start working again, but remind me, it starts every time without fail?

The thing is Ew the systems come on/off so IMHO it wouldnt suggest a fuse as these just wouldnt work full stop, but it wont hurt to check every fuse with a meter given 5 minute job.

The auto electrician has checked the micro switch which is fitted in the bootlock and said its working,for some strange reason the plug with the 3 wires which plugs into the bootlock/microswitch is still sending a signal when the boot is shut.

Electrician has said this wire should go dead when the boot/tailgate is shut but for some reason it isnt,also when he put a probe/multimeter and was checking the wire plug, the clock/dash gauges started going funny again the stopped...he said its damp or maybe central covenience unit is the problem,causing all the electrics to go mental!

Ive bee told to drive the car regular incase its damp.......Because when i started the car this morning and drove to the electrician (6 miles away) car was NORMAL! no issues whatsovere and now ive drove back with no problems..........just the ''boot open'' pic in the dash...........all faults have been cleared and only 1 keeps coming back up

Assuming that error is still from the gateway, the convenience module is actually in the bottom right hand corner of the boot, have to take the rear plastic boot trim that goes along the back edge & then the right side trim to get to it, maybe its got damp in there mate, have a look, if you can check the part number on the module, then I have a spare one here if needed to test.

car is back to 100% ive now found the seal around the tailgate isnt on properly(what a difficult pain in the ar*e to fit ! and sparewheel well was a small swimming pool,got clean up 2morrow,connector plugs wont come off from the covenience unit,i bet theyre corroded or something...going pullem off give em a good clean anyway.

Well done mate for perservering, you sure you're pushing the clips in enough to release the connectors mate, if you are then you could be right & its been shorting out from water & corrosion, mine is 8P0959433 which superseded to the C so its compatible, so if the unit is ******** then PM me & we can do a deal.

Thanks nhn at the moment all is 100% working fine,i also found the rear washwipe pipe had somehow come off inside the boot next to the 1/4 panel,it was a ****** to clip back in but all is good now,couldnt get any connecters off so ive give a good wd40 squirt in the plugs which should drive out any moisture.

I had the same problem with my BOOT. the alarm kept goin off every 20 minutes.

the boots and doors have sensors in themm, if the boot is comin up as open on the dash then its your boot locking mechanism i had the exact same problem, brought 1 from audi RRP = £30

and now alarm dont go off at all.

i have the part number in my car, ill put it up later.
