    I have a 2012 A5 sportback. I went out for KFC on Thursday night. On Friday morning the car was unlocked, the boot wouldn't open, and there's no sign of life when either of my 2 fobs is pushed into the ignition. The radio works fine and the battery is at 12.4V. To establish the latter I opened the boot by crawling thru the backseats. I found that the cover to the fusebox and convenience module on the right side had popped off. I've had the car 5 years and this has never happened before. This makes me think someone has tampered with it. But there doesn't appear to be anything missing, not that I'd necessarily notice anything missing behind the cover.

    Does anyone have any idea what might be at fault or why someone would want access behind that panel? It is possible I left the car unlocked on Thursday night It could be a huge coincidence at the cover was displaced on the day the electrics developed a fault. I've checked all the fuses and the batteries in the fobs. I'm at a loss and don't know what to think. I can't drive the car to a dealer and I'd like to fix it myself if possible.

    @Robin66

    No faults!!!! MOVE YOUR CAR AND SECURE IT! They prepped the car to be stolen!

    The module where the Keys are programmed is located in the trunk! Thats why your keys don't work anymore. This is a common way to steal some Audi models.

    I've seen this on many cars (a4/5/q5) of clients of mine which guys tried to steal.

    Take out the battery (located in the trunk) and put a lock or car so they can't drive away with it. Arrange a tow truck or a other car to replace your car.

    This is just to make a 100% sure that the car is safe.

    The dealership (or someone like @DJAlix) must replace the convience module, online parametrisation/coding and relearn your keys. Most dealerships will want to give the car a new identity but thats not neccessary because its only 1 module they damaged with their method.

    Will removal of the convenience module and mechanically locking the doors prevent them from taking it? I have already disconnected and extracted the convenience module

    Good to know. To secure the car overnight I also removed a bunch of fuses and put my bike lock around the wheel so at least it couldn't be quietly removed from the drive. Today I'll get a wheel clamp and contact a dealer.

    Thanks for the help. Good chance you've prevented the thieves finishing the job. I wonder why they didn't take it on Thursday night.

    Do I have to go to a dealer to get this fixed or are there independent Audi specialists that can come out and reprogram it on my drive?

    I don't live in the UK. The dealer can help you but would charge you a lot of money for it.

    @DJAlix could you help him? Module 44 needs to be swapped/coded/parametrised/CP/keys learned.
