Decent power...yeah for a FWD hot hatch.
Decent handling? You can't have driven many cars that actually handle, or you wouldn't say that.
Looks? ...fair comment.
Ride quality? Er...nope. Crashy and wallowy at the same time. Well done Audi.
Decent spec? ...fair comment.
Heritage? If you think so...

All these are in the eye of the beholder, and in respect to what else you have driven to compare.

Don't say sorry to offend when you've deliberately been abraisive this evening.
If you don't like to hear about your car's shortfalls...don't read.
If you are happy with it...brilliant!
But some of us find fault, and want to fix them to make the S3 what it should have been.

I suggest you stop reading if it offends you, and read what may educate you...but don't go arguing with other users when they are offering perfectly valid points of view...just because you feel a little fragile about your new purchase.

It kicks *** compared to so many cars.

Indeed it does.
It also falls short in many areas compared to so many cars.

Its NOT a porche, but if i wanted a porche ID BUY ONE.

You're damn right it's not.
Isn't a Porche a thing you have built on your house?
I guess I'd buy a Porche too if I wanted one...but I don't think one would fit in with my house.

Oh...do you mean Porsche?

This whole personal vendetta thing is getting tiring, and although Ess three is making valid points, by responding to will's posts, its only exacerbating the situation.

Can't we just forget the whole thing and go back to talking cars...

And personally i'm getting a little tired of hearing about Ess Three's comments on the 8L S3's shortfalls. I appreciate he has done some excellent work with his previous S3 and I appreciate the advice and help he has given so many people (my tyres pressures even reflect his recommendation). I'm just sick of having the 'required mods' thing rammed down my throat over and over again, "the S3 is crap without this and that and this" etc etc.

Forums are about personal opinion and sharing views but every post i've read recently seems to consist of Ess_Three dictating the way things should be.

This is just my opinion and I await a flaming (probably by Ess_Three ;)

Gotta say, i agree.

The results and recommendations of 'best mods' for the S3 are stickies on this forum. Why not just simply direct people to them?

Having Bought my S3 only a Week ago i have started to notice how different it is to my Peugeot 205 Gti 16v Which has very sorted suspention and Handling !

Thank you AUDI is all i can say i now enjoy my drive in a Relaxing comfortable manor

And all i Will Say its 200% better than the Ashtray VXR i drove last week even with its short falls

And If you still think the S3 is Crap why not ammend the Buying Guide and Say Don't Buy one There SHi** !! if you feel that strongly about it

i thot it was just me. I total agree with wot ur saying. Ive not even bough an s3 yet and im looking to spend 5 times wot my previuos car was worth on one. Not got my own car at the moment so im driving around in my parents A4. Itsa total boat compared to the pug, but chucked around there is alot more grip than i thot. I find the ride really refined and well setup apart fromt he roll. Now i find the it hard to believe that the s3 is worse than this in the grip department.

Wot id really like to know is what cars people r comparing the s3 to whe they say its crap handling and got dogey brakes. If u want crap brakes try a 306(not a gti6) with standard halfrauds pads! lol

I personally think its a great allrounder and i cant think of anything else id rather spend my money on around the 10-13k mark. granted a remap is a must, but i agree that even then its not goin to be rapid, after all it is getting on for 1400kgs.

I for one have driven many a car. The S3 has a good center of gravity, handles better than most cars i have driven and they included the likes of VW GTIs and BMWs and Minis, S3 beats all them on standard set up.

I agree; are you comparing the S3 to? a super car or somthing?

Name a car that if you spent a couple of grand doing it up(suspension breaks engine etc...) wouldnt be any better than when it came out the factory? OK youve got to know what your doing but hey...

Ha, you edited your post to remove the 911! :lmfao: Retracted the sudden rush of blood?

Which Mini's and BMW's? Even my Bro's E46 320d SE is pretty handy, never mind an M3.

I think £ for £ at today's used prices the S3 stands up very well, but there is plenty of room for improvement.

I love my S3. For me, it goes fast and handles like a dream. It grips the road beautifully.

I am not an enthusiast but I am enthusiastic about it. All I know is that I went from a Fiesta to a Renualt 19 to an Escort to a Golf GTI to an S3 and each car has delighted me more than the previous one.

Perhaps the S3 does not handle as well as other cars, but only an enthusiast or someone with experience of many cars would feel it.

I wouldn't know (or care for that matter) as for me the S3 is perfect. You only know what you know.

the S3 is an exellent car, and im personally sick of his comments too...

there is a lot of people on here who are internet heroes thinking they know everything and starting arguements but can we not just talk about cars instead of getting nasty!? all a bit childish

Ditto....

well, at the end of the day, they're only cars aren't they.
Never mind.

I'll be happy with an S3 in standard set up, when i eventually find a decent one. I've had a bog standard A3 1.8T for 3 years, and if the S3 is exactly the same as that in terms of handling then I'll still be happy.

But I am the sort of person that uses a car to drive places. Like Sainsburys. And Doncaster. And the gym. So I'll always be happy with what's put in front of my, Audi wise.

amen to that brother ! the S3 is very sought after car, nice car, i wish Essthree would just shut up sometimes!

LOL @ this thread...

your all making out like he is Joseph Stalin or something...

i think every car can be improved somewhat by aftermarket mods but for most people (including me) the S3 is a good all round package and gets me to work and back very nicely, and copes with the odd weekend spirited drive, saying that though I did have to change to brembo brakes :) ha ha

This thread is hilarious,

Yes S3's are nice cars, nice to be in and nice to drive, a reasonable amount of power and wont try to kill you at every corner.

But they dont like to be really hurried along, particularly tight, twisty roads with short straights - the car lurches quite a bit and feels really heavy due to the setup(a standard one anyway) - my dads 530d is a far superior handling car, and is twice the size

There's nothing wrong with that, some people just want more out of the car and so get quite enthusiastic about it and the changes they've made/reccomend to others.

If you like it as it is then what does it matter what anybody else thinks really, nobody is saying they're a bad car.

That is exactly what I was getting at in previous posts and all he seems to do is give you grief for answering back.

If all you can do is slate the car why did you buy it in the first place? You obviously didn't do your homework and give it a real test drive otherwise you wouldn't have bought the car. Yes its not the best for handling however it is the perfect compromise for power, handling and comfort.

But having say this I wouldn't be happy if I had spent £30k on it to find it was like this. Unlike some of us...........ESS THREE (no wonder he's bitter)

Understeer and at times scary brakes are my problems, but they wil be sorted very soon.
I agree on the tone of some members on here, its all very autocratic at times. to be fair also, whereas I totally accept that EssThree's guide to info on the sticky is excellent, it is just that a guide! What setup he likes, I may not, simple! Also, time has moved on a bit since he did those things, there are larger ARBs now, (I have gone for some seriously beefy ones at 25/25) because I am sued to cars with high roll stiffness. it may work, it may not, if it does not, I will try again! Koni FSD dampers are about now too, not around when he tested his stuff..... So everyone readers and authours, whould treat their guide as exactly that, one man's very useful experiences of tweaking his S3, a few years ago.

My post isnt a Personal attack in any way was just trying to point out i Bought the S3 to drive on the Road! where although some people have no regard for there are Speed limits and if you stick (all be it Roughly) to them you won't really find to many issues with the S3

On the other hand if you Perfer to (DRIVE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT !) it does need some Work im sure But doesn't every car under 30K

I agree that there are 'better' cars out there, i'm not disputing that. It just seems like recently the aformentioned person has the attitude "i've moved on and now think the S3 is crap". He is entitled to this opinion but I don't think its right to shove it in everyones face.

He has harsh words for people who come on and say the S3 is better than X,Y,Z car, so why is it right for him to come on and, repeatedly, say its worse than X,Y,Z car. Its fine every now and again when in good humour, but not constantly in an increasingly aggresive fashion.

Its been nice knowing you all anyway, I get the feeling I am soon to be on the end of some harsh words myself. Thank you and good night.

Who's having a row? Or do we not get an opinion?

And who's the kid? you old fart! :box:

Wow, I only suggested Ess-three shouldn't rise to the bait, then its suddenly Salem around here!

mentalists....

everyone's entitled to their own opinion, as long as its not abusive etc.. if you don't like what someone has posted, then just ignore it, all seems a bit childish to me.. I disagree with alot of posts but if its not neccesarry then theres no point posting what i think. tbh it seems like some people like to vent there anger on here

this thread is getting booooooring

By the sound of your replies i would hazard a guess maybe you???

By the sound of your user name you're probably right up on those amphetamines, that's why you're up for the tear up.

Comedown makin ya a grumpy_junky????

Personnaly, i think threads like this help the day pass a little quicker.

I'm amazed how seriously some people seem to take it all. I mean actually bothering to make personnal remarks really highlights just how funny these forums can be. It ain't just A-S.net either :jester:

Errr no, I don't think 27 puts me in the kid category. The old fart comment was a joke, but it seems I have hit a nerve. Don't worry mate, grey is the new silver.

'amphetamines' not tried them, sorry. Is it the viagra making you think you're hard?

And whilst we're on usernames, surely 'snatch' is more appropriate for you.

Now we've both had a bitch shall we just leave it at that? Its all in jest, my more defensive comments were targeted at Ess Three, not his fan club. Gripe over. :shutup2:

haha.. personally i find ess_three's guide very interesting on what he found worked... now that he has his porsche he may think that it handles soo well out of the box compared to the S3, and by right it should, it cost more than an S3 :) but the S3 handles moderately well comparing it to a fiat panda for arguments sake.

same thing the S3 costs more than a panda, so more is expected of it.

the porsche costs more than an S3 so again even more is expected of it

:D

group hug everyone .. its only a forum afterall :D

Anyway not wanting to argue or state any other form of debate whats the fastest colour for the S3....?
