OK guys this is the news that you 8L S3 guys have been waiting for and its alot better than previously thought. The HPA touch screen Haldex controller will be released in September and orders are being taken now. Please see below content of the email I received this week. Considering the older Gen1 Haldex units are now obsolete and will never be available for new purchase again this HPA version is a steal as 2nd hand values of the old one can rocket to over £900.

"If you order now, the units will be shipping within the month of September. All production units that will be ready to ship in August and the beginning of September have been spoken for. If you have your customers pre-order before the end of August, they will receive a GPS based timer for FREE. Any purchases after August 31 the GPS option will be US$100 extra"

The all in price for the controller is £550. This includes shipping AND import taxes. We need a minimum of 10 to get this rolling so I shall leave it up to you guys. If you need any other gen/info please drop me a PM. Cheers

Below is a link to the HPA blog that they released early last week showing the controller in operation.

Ive just received another email from HPA and here is another price alteration as prices are being altered all the time.

"UK price including shipping is $694 plus import duty" which equates to near enough £415 plus import duty which is calculated from declaration price of packing. If this is taken as $600 with shipping at $94 then the duty is a whopping £154. I shall ask HPA to help me out with this.

So new price for the HPA controller as of todays email all in from me is £500 on the nose.

i might of asked this on a different thread, but do these new controllers work with a haldex diff thats fitted onto a car that wasn't supposed to have one, I'm building a haldex mk2 golf so it won't have the esp, abs, steering angle sensors, yaw, lateral acc sensors, etc, i could fit all those but would rather not.

In your case no... this unit takes all the signals that normally go to the haldex controller and reacts differently... the haldex controller is essentially standalone as it is... it takes feeds from the cars electronics and the onboard software does the rest...

For this to work on yours you will need to use an ME7 ECU and all associated sensors and wiring...

I've been emailing HPA over the last hour and Darryl says it will be fine as in race mode it offers more power to the rear through boost level and throttle input, so doesnt need the factory electronics as found in the S3 / R32 etc, I've explained I'm building a track focussed mk2 haldex conversion so won't have the abs/yaw/lat acc etc etc

i will be using the standard BAM ecu and dbw

How come this has gone up by £50 since yesterday, its going to work out cheaper to go direct i think

Damn it I guess I missed out on the group buy?

I didn't even know they'd made a new revision of the controller until seeing this thread! (I've been after a blue controller for a while, now I'm after this)

Their updates and communication have been really grim to be honest

Mine will be in the UK within the next 2 months but can't test on the S3 for a while....may play with it on my friends 4-motion :)

I still have a blue one sitting in a Morrisons bag somewhere! Lol. Didn't even get round to fitting the thing, and killed the car!

My A3 (8L) has just died - it's got the blue haldex controller on it, does anyone want it? What sort of price would be fair?

I wouldn't pay that much for something that can fail and you are then screwed... you can get the OE ones flashed by all accounts and there is also the HPA controller that you can use on any standard controller making it easier and cheaper to replace if (and when) it fails

That price takes the p*ss IMO... taking advantage of the fact they are no longer available

Wow!! That's mental pricing! I wouldn't even trust that some out there are just powder coated or painted examples

The HPA TMap like tuffty said is a good option and is what I have been using.

If not some standalone ECUs can control the haldex, mine if locks if I go above 7psi and there is plans to be able to change these settings and map it how you would like it to respond in the future. As soon as this update is available it will make my TMAP redundant to fund other bits

Sold my Blue haldex controller for £400 even then i thought it was a high price, It was sold with the original sales involve to prove it was the real thing..

If your planning on buying a blue haldex then ask for a sales invoice or the serial number off it to check that it is the real deal, if they don't give a number its most likely be a fake
Where's the serial number on it? Mine is genuine, but I don't have the sales invoice. lol

Given the frankly hilarious prices still coming up on ebay for the blue controller and the fact that you can now get the hpa gen1 including the Tmap software for approx £586 (delivery and import tax not included) not sure if that's a price reduction? I'm sure the software was a lot more than that when I first looked...does anyone have any useful commentary on experiences of using this? Be interested to know what peoples thoughts are

I have a gen1 HPA... I run it in sport or comp mode for the most part... the OE haldex used to kick in with a whack when pulling off quickly or powering out of a corner... there is non of that now...

I have not used the race speed setup and couldn't comment on the 'haldex braking' in competition mode but its better than OE for sure and has the advantage being usable on any haldex controller so if your OE one packs up (which they do) you just get a n other and all is well again

I have not used the performance suite, that was added via a firmware update a little while back... not had one for a while though

Thanks Tufty, good to hear of some practical use and given the power in your car that's encouraging. Getting the suspension to a place I'm happy with has been a few pennies so I'm hoping with the extra power that's also coming this could change the dynamics of the car and make it a bit more spirited under acceleration and under load.

Plus I work in IT, it's mostly just another excuse for another cool gadget!

Interesting stuff, for info I've tried to contact Fred at United motorsports to enquire about this, ref costs uk retailers etc as the thread seemed to go dead in 2014. If there's anything interesting coming back from them I'll start a new thread here so as not to derail this HPA one.
