How to remove badges (Superglue)????

Hi All,

The last owner put rs4 badges on my quattro avant. What an idiot....he used superglue to add inslut to injury. I damaged the laquer taking it off the side skirt with a heater and a blade. I really want to remove the badge from the rear of the car. Any Idea how to do this without damaging the paint? Also can it be buffed out with a machine polisher if it does leave behind a mess?

Generally if you warm it up using a hairdryer and use the edge of a credit card as a scraper, you should be able to remove it without damaging the paint.

Let me know how you get on - I've got an S4 badge to remove!

Thats how you would do it with the factory glue anyway. Superglue could be a different story though. Maybe try calling up the superglue people? Or google it?

Agreed, you'd need a solvent to weaken the glue, but I'd seek specialist advice so you don't damage the paint first. I'm sure the bond between the badge and the paint will be stronger than between the paint and the bodywork!

I think acetone, nail polish remover, or a 'debonder' should do the trick.
BUT, as quattrojames says, I'd get specialist advice first - maybe by ringing a superglue manufacturer - say, 'LOCTITE'?

Don't try the heat method it wont work and will cause more damage, it's a totally different adhesive to factory fitted sticky backed badges. Hospitals use water to unstick idiots who have superglue mishaps as it breaks down with water.......not sure how you could put this into use in this situation though........I reckon you might be 'stuck' with them

Soak some metholated spirit on to a small sponge, soak the badge well for afew mins. Pick gently at the badge whilst still soaking, it will come away slowly. Dont force it or you will take the laquer off. After the badge and any leftovers is off wash with lots of water or it may stain the laquer.

Super glue actually eats into lacquer so you are going to leave marks if removing the badges if it is super glue thats been used .

Howdo you repair lacquer?

rub it down & re-lacquer it, providing its not got through to the base colour as well

id take it to a bodyshop and get them to look/sort it, and least itl be properly finished...although the cost could be another matter
