How to Remove 8P1 DSG Gear Knob?

I've read a few threads about changing over the DSG gear knobs to new styles, however I have seen no threads stating how to remove the 8P1 style gear knob, this one has no gaiter and an aluminium and plastic surround as shown in the picture.

Any ideas? Seen a few gear knobs on ebay and the like and want to know how easy it would be to change it to a new style one with a leather gaiter.

Will now consider buying a newer gear knob with leather gaiter and installing. Does anyone know if the lighting clip would be the same? As that is now my only concern.
