How did this guy get a heated steering wheel on a UK S5?

Does anyone know how this guy/car managed to get a heated steering wheel as I thought it's never been offered on a UK B9 S5 or any other A5 for that matter?

You see the heated Steering wheel button at about 4.10mins onwards clear as day

Looks like the standard wheel just scanning the video... does he mention it in the video? It's not currently an option.

The options last year were:
1. Standard round
2. Heated round
3. Flat bottom

I think most went for flat bottom, so maybe Audi dropped the heated option.

You'd think the best commercial decision would therefore be to make a heated flat bottomed wheel, everyone would spec it, it's such a cheap option but just so nice in the 3 months of Winter, it's the one thing I really miss from my BMW 440i and I was genuinely surprised Audi don't offer it on a car like this.

I don't understand why they'd drop the heated round wheel even, they'r all made in the same factory so all parts available at build time.

Clearly must have been a option at the time of the ordering? Not available now but bearing in mind the video is end of October and would have been ordered mid-2017.

PS it was an option when I got my A5.

I think the heated wheel was £350 Vs flat bottom at £100. Probably why they didn't sell.

Yes, a lot of people will have seen that as an expensive option for what it is compared to some of the other "toys" we can choose from.

Was an option on mine (March 2017) but I wanted a FB wheel.

Same here ! I would have thought the FB wheel was standard on S line and S models but I guess it is another £100 they can eek out of us?

Flat bottom should be standard on the S5 as part of the S package, they should then have an option of say £200 to have it heated which is worth every penny in Winter. Why can't Audi get something as simple as offering a heated steering wheel right?

It’ll be based on simple costs vs demand and profits. If it’s a niche demand then profit is non-existent and as such gets delisted.

The cars are all made in the same factory, they have to pick a steering wheel from a parts bin to put on the car anyway, it does not increase their overheads if someone selected the heated steering wheel, not only do they make more money but they are also not offering something their competition does, like BMW & Mercedes. I'd prefer a heated steering wheel and at this price I should have the option to have it.

Well, to prevent a circular argument, Audi don’t offer this so it’s not going to happen.

Besides, a pair of decent gloves will be far cheaper and you can transfer them to your next car !! :thumbs up:

There was an option for heated steering wheel when the S5 was launched. I ordered my S5 in March 2017 and the option was available. I opted for the flat bottom wheel. The heated steering wheel is only available as a standard wheel. AUDI keep on changing the specs available to order another example is the rotar wheels were available as an option earlier on but no longer the case.

I never understand why some options can't stay an option - because surely some of the parts are identical across the globe ... its not like they have to build special parts in the UK - in fact, they are build in germany anyway - same with Black Optics .. not like they have to make special parts ...

I felt like an old man having to wear gloves because my steering wheel was so cold over the last few weeks that I really couldn't bear touching it - was just the stupid hat missing ...

Yes of course the wheel is cold, it doesn't magically heat itself, if the temp inside the car is 5 degrees the wheel is also 5 degrees, trust me once you've had a heated steering wheel there is no going back, it's such a cheap option but just lovely in Winter, I leave the house at 5am some mornings and the wheel gets warm before the seats do, the wheel is the only part of the car you touch so the cold is transferred to your hands, I don't want to wear gloves in my 50k car when every other competitor offers this feature and just for a few hundred quid. Its pi$$ poor Audi don't offer it, its about choice and having the car how you want it

Same with auxiliary heater. Every car I had in Germany I had that extra. Turn heater on via remote or timer and done. Here in the UK never seen it.

I could live without that to be honest and can understand why it's an expensive option, it must be lovely if you live somewhere properly cold like Germany in Winter, it's just so nice not to have cold hands, the wheel doesn't get hot, just warm, it was less than a £200 option on my 440i so it's a no brainer when adding 5k of options, far more useful than spending £300 on red brake calipers which should be standard on an Audi 'S' car anyway.

Heated wheel?! It's hardly cold to touch even in the darkest depths of winter lads :tonguewink:

I just wear gloves, actually in fact I can't even remember it being cold enough to need them when walking to the car from the house. Usually its my legs that feel it first, perhaps I should not wear shorts all the time..

Ive had a 2017 SB with a heated wheel. Im uk.
