Hold Assist via VCDS

Hi Guys, I am keen to add the Auto Hold Assist option to my Audi 8v 2016 pfl, I have been following this thread about activating the Auto Hold Assist without the switch and could do with some help please.

I have followed the instructions posted by dandav1985 ( excellent post ) and was able to change the adaptions for the Auto hold settings successfully including the monitoring of the auto hold light switch setting from 7 to 0.
When I change the 4 ABS settings successfully I get a few errors, on the dis - auto hold not available, ACC fault, handbrake warning, and on vcds fault code 4410 - indicator lamp in auto hold switch, open or short to ground.

Any help to rectify this and have this option working would be much appreciated, Thanks.

Has anyone solved this problem?
I was able to code correctly, I do not have a switch, ABS: 5Q0 614 517 AR
After coding, error:
4410 - Indicator Lamp in Auto-Hold Switch
C1156 14 [009] - Open or Short to Ground
some idea?

I did this a long time ago, but you have to make one more adaption : turn of monitoring of the light in the switch. Then clear the faults

Use some searches on this forum to find out how, i don’t remember, but the previous posts are also talking about it.

I do think this “without-the-switch-autohold” is for pfl only....

mega bump,

8P owner here, we just got an 8V

I’m facing the same issue too even after changing the monitoring off for the auto hold light switch 7 —> 0

dtc prevents the functionality from working:
4410 - Indicator Lamp in Auto-Hold Switch
C1156 14 [009] - Open or Short to Ground

even if it is cleared… it reoccurs

Anyone manages to get around this error (couple of posts above me have ran into the same issue.

I followed this video for the 3 parameters that need changing (Byte8,19 and 23) and borrowed the security access codes thanks to all those who posted in this thread

Further investigation would suggest that coding needs to be made in addition to adaptation channel changes. The long coding is yet to be labeled in VCDS but it would seem that changes need to be made within 03 as follows:
  • Byte 08 = 03
  • Byte 19 = C0
  • Byte 23 = F7
  • Byte 25 = 41 (Auto transmission) or 43 (manual transmission)
But... given the above it could be that this feature may well be firmware limited. I would need to see data from a few cars with Auto Hold enabled from the factory in order to investigate further but it might be possible to "upgrade" firmware to enable this feature. Example, these are the available official Audi firmware files for the ABS module 5Q0907379:

I actually just enabled it without doing this coding. All I did was following #56. steps 1 and 2 and then use the adaptation channels to set AUTO HOLD to active and AUTO HOLD functional state to always active (because I don't have the button). Without the security codes, the settings in adaptation won't stick, I checked if the settings sticked when reinserting the key and reopening VCDS.
So I wonder if the long coding is still needed. I checked byte 25 and it's not set to 43 by default (as I have a manual). It's still unlabelled in the latest VCDS.

PS: I also followed #64, mine was also set to 7, not sure what this option is, but this video says it's for monitoring the button light, which is absent.

Did not try to use hold assist yet, I drove a bit to repark the car and didn't see the green light (didn't wear the seatbelt because I moved the car two spots away to go away from those pesky poop machines). Afaik you need to wear the seatbelt for any automatic ebrake release/engaging. I'll test it later and come back to this to confirm wether the longcoding is necessary.

I can confirm that auto hold works by only using the adaptation channels, but the green light won't work. Coding is therefore needed.

ABS Coding original (A3 8V 1.4 TFSI COD Manual):

All you have to do is follow #56 and #64.

Which ABS module do you have? 3Q0 or 5Q0?

Does anyone know if the activation via VCDS can be applied on a 3Q0xxxxx ABS module? Until know, I see successful activations only for 5Q0 modules…
I am willing to try once again, but if it is 100% sure that it will not work, no need to waste time

And that is the help that someone gets when not asking about a stage 3-4-10 S3 or not being close to a professional retrofitter…pitty

Take a backup of your coding and adaptations and try playing around. If you have ODIS you might find more information about the unnamed bits in VCDS.

If people don't know or never did it, you're alone and can only ask people to join your adventure.

I'm currently trying to figure out how to enable SAK on 5Q0 gateways. Jilleb figured it out for 3Q0 gateways (facelift). I could upgrade to 3Q0 for 30 euro (AliExpress), but wouldn't it be nice if I could figure out how to do it without spending additional money?

This is the complete coding for hha retrofitting the button.. Hope it helps..

VCDS
Select control unit address 03- ABS
Enter access authorization / login code (20103)
Select adaptation: Set the Auto HOLD function status or Auto HOLD functional status to
Always active Save - Leave control unit.
Select control unit address 03- ABS
Enter access authorization / login code (24990)
Select adaptation Set Auto Hold Fuse or Auto Hold Function to active Save - Leave control
unit.
Select control unit address 03- ABS
Enter access authorization / login code (24990)
12. Long Coding, Select the following HEX values:
Change byte 08 to 03
Change byte 19 to C0
Change byte 23 to F7
Change Byte 25 depending on the gearbox: 41 for automatic gearbox or 43 for manual
transmission

Fault memory Delete vehicle and perform function test.

Even though I have no errors, I believe the coding is partially incorrect:
  • Byte 23 = F7
  • Byte 25 = 41 (Auto transmission) or 43 (manual transmission)

For Byte 23, enable bit 0. So for my coding, F2 becomes F3
For Byte 25, enable bit 1. So for my coding, 21 becomes 23

I have to test this new coding, will edit/add to this comment with the result.

Auto hold still works after the change. Code your ABS the correct way. :)
I'm only not sure about Byte 25 if it's required to check bit 1, but I believe that's only necessary if you don't have the auto hold button (so if you do retrofit it, only check bit 0).

I'm only not sure why bit 0 was already enabled from factory, despite that I don't have the button (PR code UH2).

No i believe you are right. I just copied this from a retrofit form i aquired a while ago.

In addition, byte 28, bit 2 and bit 4 should be enabled.

Bit 2: auto hold message
Bit 4: auto hold BAP

Hi all, pulling my hair out here, trying to do it without the button. I do the coding changes 8,19 and 23 then do the 3 adaption as per the video, then I get auto hold unavailable and the this fault error - 4410 - indicator lamp in auto-hold switch c1156 14 [009] - open or short to ground confirmed - tested since memory clear, any help would be greatly appreciated

I have auto hold working without the button with no errors. However, the PARK indicator never turns green while it's holding. Everything is enabled. It's a PFL 8V. Does anyone know how to get the green light functioning?

You need to change the adaptation for the light indicator. The value from 7 to 0
