What's wrong with the flick of the steering stalk mate?

    Laziness
It’s something I've had in that’s last few audis. Sometimes I just forget to flick and I don’t like blinding others especially with the super bright leds, maybe I’m too considerate. Most folk think I’ve got high beam on anyway and start flashing till I put the high beam on:welcoming:

I love my HBA. But I wouldn’t go to the expense and trouble of retrofitting it.

Regarding the very white, bright headlights (led etc), the brightness of them is a real problem for other road users, particularly older people.
My wife’s eye consultant confirmed that as eyes get older they do become much more sensitive to bright headlights.

I’m afraid that if you go for some of the latest very bright options you will have to accept getting flashed.

Can be the tens on/enabled just via coding, no hardware required. It was done for me my @DJAlix but you can if you have VCDS or similar

Do you have lane assist? If yes then it can be easily coded.

Lane assist was added too via coding but clearly for this need the pre-sense basic camera which my 2018 Q5 has.

Thought so. I assume LA includes the hardware for HBA, but not the other way around.

I had both activated without having either, but as said 2018 car with pre sense and clearly hardware in place already. My understanding and I may be wrong was that if you had pre sense basic you could activate LA and HBA

That's interesting to know. I don't think I have pre sense, but LA isn't something I really care about anyway.

I previously had the high beam assist thing with Ford and Honda cars, but found in both cases it was not quick enough to react when I would have flicked it off myself....particularly when approaching cars from behind so I always turned it off.
Maybe the system works better with Audi though. :innocent:
The matrix system looks like the ultimate in this type of technology from what I've read. :)

Just got back from a car wash and tried to get a picture but they've waxed it, should've thought about that beforehand.

It essentially looks like a little window in the mount of the rear view mirror

    Its garbage anyawy ....

If it was 'smart' and could keep you in the middle of a lane, thats good. But it waits till you are at the edge on the line and shunts you back in. I never use it, occasionally do for a few moments if im trying to open a bottle of water or something!

You can enable a menu that will let you select early or late for the lane assist. At set to early, it will keep you in the middle.

Matrix lights on mine are amazing, don't seem to dazzle anyone. You can see a dark shadow moving with the car(s) ahead, amazing tech.

Yep.....and for me it falls into the category of would really appreciate having it but not so keen to pay the price to get it. :D
Lighting technology on cars has moved on dramatically in the past 20 years with previously expensive options becoming standard on newer models, so I would expect matrix lights to also become standard on Audi's of the near future. :)

Yup and that's exactly what I use. But if I had a car which would keep me safely in lane I would use it on long motorway journeys quite happily.

And neither did I really care about LA, but may as well activate whilst everything else was done. The thing I most wanted (and got) done by @DJAlix was full map display in my colour DIS central screen. Obviously not something those of you with VC would need lol, but I really like it.

Well if it is rubbish, even more pleased I didn’t pay for it as an option. Have only used a few times on longer motorway journeys, but of a gimmick, wife hates it, but you can set sensitivity as others have said

I need to check my setting as I can't think what the sensitivity is on tbh, but I'm going to guess its still not the same kind of technology as like you would get in a Tesla. I suppose though its not meant for that, its more to prevent you falling asleep and drifting into the next lane. Not for the car to drive itself...need to make sure you indiciate when changing lanes (as you should anyway..) as otherwise you will get some resistance when changing.

It's something I wouldn't pay £100 for personally even if it cost that much to add it in a factory order.
HBA on the other hand, I was using it last night and my passenger asked if I was turning the lights on or off or if it was the car. It might be a lazy feature, but its a very good one!

Here comes a potentially controversial comment, but I will say it anyway. :D
There is no need to habitually indicate when carrying out any manoeuvre in a vehicle. For example an empty motorway with clear views ahead and behind as far as you can see, would you indicate to change lanes(whatever the reason was for doing so)? Now some people will say yes because they do so out of habit and will state that it is a good habit, while others will say they treat every manoeuvre individually and look around to see if another road user or pedestrian could potentially benefit from the information an indication would provide, so if the answer is yes then indicate, but if it is no then there is no need to indicate.
Advanced driving will teach the second method.

I've had the lane keeping aid in 2 cars but having tried it I decided it was not for me because it was forcing me to indicate when I didn't feel it was always necessary to do so.
It does have its place though.....and I would still recommend it for long motorway journeys at night for example.

Sorry I am not meaning to be argumentative, just wanted to say this because it is something I have always felt strongly about. :innocent:

To be honest I only put that comment in there about indicating before someone else said it haha ;)

I fully agree, I was on the M4 last night at 1-2am, it was empty.. so no I wasn't indiciating when changing lanes. Make it 1pm, and yes I most likely would be. Same applies for normal roads though also, if I'm making a turn, if there's no cars or people around, then I won't bother
