Busy day today all in all. As well as fixing the Mrs car, as I broke her ABS sensor when fitting a new wishbone. I also managed to nip to VW Dealer today and pick up my sensor blank for my new coolant flange. So got to work on the TQS.
Was a bit of a fath getting all the hoses off the metal pipe again, even more of a fath getting the bolts out for the coolant flange. But it’s a job well done really. I couldn’t even find a rubber seal for the coolant flange that was on the car and leaking. Either it fell out, or it wasn’t there to begin with, but I can’t see that. Cleaned everything up, then reinstalled. The metal pipe I got from AUTODOC, was a bit of a bad fit, so needed to some remanufacturing in order to align all the holes. Decided to do away with yet more spring clips, and replaced with jubilee clips.
I also fitted my new Oil Pressure Sensor, which is really so I know the sensor is new and doing its job. Got a real thing about the oil pressure on this engine. I’ll change the oil within the next few days too. Wait another 500-1000 miles then change again.
I also fitted my new side repeaters with prism bulbs. The old side repeaters were looking old, one of them was even stuck on as it was broken. So I thought.........I’d try some crystal ones. I’ve liked them in the past, all the later Audis had them. So I’m trying them. I think........I’ll have to wait and see if they grow on me. Jury’s still out.
Also fitted today was my red Lamin-X strips, onto the rear lights. Again, think I’m going to have to see if this grows on me. I have dark tint Lamin-X standing by if it doesn’t. But I’ve seen all red lamps done before and liked them. We’ll see. Will probably help when I’ve washed the car. Looking a bit dirty and unloved this week, which obviously isn’t the case.
Going to have to change the belts and tensioner son the front soon too. The tensioner is making a horrendous noise. Had to have a good listen today as it sounded like it was internal to the engine, but I’m pretty sure it’s the tensioner. The tensioner failed on my last B5, and that was sounding pretty bad too before it eventually failed.
So good days work. See what others think of the lamps etc. Still a lot of parts from AUTODOC to fit, I’ll bet round to it soon.
