Hi am just about to purchase an audi s3 quattro x reg 2000. and i want the top one 221bhp. i have noticed that some have symbols on the clocks below the needle on the speedo and some dont?? why is this and what does it mean?? thanks ash
ps only S3 with engine code BAM comes with 225Bhp. The others AMK & APY come with 210bhp. Dont let that put you off because they all remap to the same
what year is the facelift? this one i am guna get is x reg 2000. i just wasnt sure what the badge was on the clocks as this one hasnt. www.parkers.co.uk has lead me astray as that says the audi s3 only come out 2001?? but i have seen loads pre that! am gettin confused with it all, i just want the best one thanks for the reply finesse.
Also possible future values, later models should be more desirable to a buyer....but then again I am biased !
My answer to you would be yes...worry. As you say you want the 'best' - does that mean you have no budget ? If that was the case I would be looking for an 03 plate guaranteed face lift model. If money is an issue then do some googling and you will find out what the differences are with the face lift model and just make sure you get one of those.

mine doesnt have front and rear badges and mines a 01 facelift. And no i didnt take them off. I belive it was an option to not have the badges on the outside
hopefully the 225bhp? it wont be the 225bhp if it is not 2001 51 or above mate, check the logbook for the engine code, if it is starting BAM... then it will be 225
Also facelift have 1 piece headlight and indicators and chrome mirrors. However these can be retro fitted so best checking engine code. Also don't know if there is any truth in this but someone told me that the door handles changed on the a3, from being square to more rounded. I'm not a 100% clear on that one though
S3 badge appears on on all S3 clocks, but the facelift models have the newer badge and it appears under the rev counter I think where as the pre facelift appears under the speedo. A3 door handles changed on the facelifts, to the same as the ones already fitted to the S3
Ah, that makes sence now. I've got the facelift door handles on the old S3 cause they came as standard - you learn something new everyday.
I wish I had them ! Even on ebay a genuine set seem to go in the region of £150+. There are some companies who sell chrome covers, but they are really not the same at all.
check engine code mate as others have said as mine is a 51 (2001) facelift but AMK engine code which is 210. It was originally advertised as a 225 model but on closer inspection was not the case. Didn't put me off as always planned to get it re-mapped anyway
sounds like I need to set up an ebay search alert ! At £88 that's a steal, unless there was something not quite right with them.
Not necessarily, the faclift occured in mid / late 2000 so it's possible it could be a facelift with that plate (mine is) and it'll more than likely have the AMK engine code
Mines 2001 Y-reg AMK 210bhp so would say you want to aim for 2002 or later S3 if you're desperate on getting the BAM 225bhp.
They were £83 , not sure what condition. I guess if you brought them and kept yours you could always swap over before you sell

Great decision, if budget permits grab a facelift 2001 + S3 with as many options as possible (sunroof, cruise control, Bose, heated seats, chrome mirrors). full service history matters (plugs, all filters, haldex, rear diff)
