Help needed!..3.2Q DSG Hesitant engine ~ 2k rpm

Pardon me guys n gals, this has been a very popular post and I'm being lazy trawling through it so apologies in advance for this BUT, does this problem also affect an S3 DSG?
My S3 DSG is suffering low rev hesitation.

Im having similar problems to what you describe above.
when my engine is cool it runs fine, however when its warmed up and I stop at lights or the car is in neutral or park the revs go up to 1500 and then back down.
ive checked the MAF and this is fine, ive also cleaned out the throttle body. Im thinking that it could be the idle control value. does anyone know whether these can be cleaned out as these are park of the TB.

I had exactly the same behaviour about 2 months ago. Since then, the car's been in the garage three times:
1) problem diagnosed as the timing chain being stretched, and the angle of the cam adjusters was incorrect, leading to strange firing behaviour. Fix was to replace the chain, and replace 2 cam adjusters
2) got car back, after a few days, the emission control warning light came on. took to garage, got sensor replaced as the diagnostics unit had identified a fault (it was reading -20 degrees C when it was about +5)
3) after a day or so, the car was exhibiting the same sort of issues. Exhaust Actuator identified as being in permanent retarded position, so it wasn't working properly. Got that replaced this week (well both inlet and exhaust actuators), and the car's been running fine and idling smoothly at 625rpm.
Unfortunately, this is a rather pricey thing to get fixed:
1) cost around £1700
2) was around £80
3) was around £750
My car is 6 years old, is a A3 3.2 V6 DSG S-Line, with 74k miles on the clock. Apart from normal wear/tear/oil changes, this is the first piece of work been done on the engine.
Any q's - give me a shout.
The tpi number has now changed to 2010289/3 (it also worded gearbox judder poor acceleration when changing gears at high revs, but the update is the same sw version)for those dealers struggling to find the original tpi which has been removed from elsa pro and elsa win

Just to say I got the update applied through a non-dealer source. If it is of any use to anyone, I have the files off the update disc mentioned earlier in this thread, and more importantly I have them in decoded .bin format (this might not mean much to you but it will to your tuner!).

Hi there,
I have a 2003 3.2 DSG TT that is in my local Audi dealers tomorrow and i would like the ECU update apppied but all the numbers i have given them from this post are longer valid aparantly.
Has anyone had this update recently at an Audi main dealers?
Can any one give me any more or up to date info i can pass them please?

can anyone tell me if this could be down to the software problem, i can feel this as a rocking or surging feeling when driving at light throttle. this vid is at a standstill in neutral on a 2005 3.2

Hi guys,
I've just spent over 20 hours reading throgh your thread back from 2008-2010, about the hesitant engine @ 2K rpm.
You guys were unbelievable, sorting out the issue on a VR6 3.2 quattro.
I am a new owner of Audi. Unfortunately my car has the same problem what yours had.
Now I know the solution to solve this problem is a software update. I did replaced couple of the main parts such as air MAF sensor, spark plugs, ignition coil. Which obviously did not solved the problem.
As I live in Southampton, I have called up Southampton Audi to ask them to do a softwer update on my car what I know it is available. However they just keep saying that they can not see that the softwer update is available for my car, the only thing they do say is the ignition coil needs to be replaced.
I told them that I know the CD number what to look for, but they were useless, just keep talking about the ignition coils. After I called up Huddersfield Audi, where your cars been serviced with this software update. But they were the same as Southampton Audi.
Please, help me with this. How could I sort my car issue. What shall I say or ask from the Audi to do what I want?
Your answer would be very much appreciated.

Hi, it's a long drive but I used derby audi, they updated mine for free and just did what I asked, so if you can be ***** to drive 3 hours then your sorted

Remember it well, the feeling I had driving away from the dealers with the car finally fixed. I was grinning from ear to ear.
As you've found out, the dealers still won't recognise the update as a fix for what you describe to them and it won't show as an available update on the system and from that they can be reluctant to do it. Tgey just tell you to book it in for diagnosis.
You are better of trying in person to get the update sorted armed with the relevant facts.
If no joy then move on to the next dealer

Holy thread revival batman! Sorry to bring this back from the dead again. I've read many many of these pages, and as a new owner as of yesterday, I admire the persistence and outlay of some of you guys! Long story short mines jerky on set off, feels like a surging/hesitation trying to hold 30 -40 mph and hunting revs but it's a manual, does this effect just DSG or manual too? Also could someone post the latest relevant software info so I can go armed to the dealership tomoz, and has anyone been successful in getting the update from anywhere up north/north west? Welcome in the owners club. I have a 3.2 vr6 quattro as well as yours and mine is manual as yours. So I am pretty sure that both manual and auto has this issue.
Mine got sorted in the end. But it took me a long time too. I live in Southampton, I called audi many times and they were useless, unable to help me. They were keep telling me that there is no such flush available...however there is, but ofcourse they won't listen for a random guy like myself...anyway... I have got an independent garage here where I always took my cars, they are specialised for audi,bmw,porsche. They did flush my ecu with a new update but unfortunately I don't know what is the serial number. Also they did set up the throttle response as well. And after this, the car runs and revs very well. No more hesitating around the 2k rev. I know you live far from here, but if you could check with your independent garages like mine. I am sure they will do it for you.

Many thanks pal, I read a few pages back that this was a dealer only fix? If yours is fixed though, who am I to question. I will definatly start asking around, what is it they would need, just the update cd? Seems a bit specific for an indie garage...
After being in touch with audi uk they say there is nothing they can do and that they trust the judgment of their "fully trained technicians, with the latest equipment" Looks like I'm going to get guinnie pigged into replacing this that an the other to no avail like some of you chaps did a fee years ago. Well, financially that's not possible, so looks like I've to live with a jerky car, shame for my first Audi experience.
Have you been into the dealers? Always best face to face as it's harder to be fobbed of.

The measuring blocks 208 gives -1°KW and 209 -3°KW
block 90 seems to works with no major delay but block 91 intake is constantly doing adjustement and is always way out of the setpoint.
Can anybody tell me if my ECU can be reflashed by the dealer ?
After that assuming what I read on this post, my car should run much better. as the issue comes from map overheating the lambda sensor, do I need to replace them to?

I'm not sure if the update is suitable for you tbh, your on software revision 7000 which is a later one.
What year is your A3?
I did get the intake camshaft fault like you though before the chain was replaced and from what I can remember, it didn't come back afterwards. It's a long time since I owned my 3.2's though so I don't fully remember all the little niggles. I can remember the noise from the V6 though

I though there was a 8087 version software...I think the camshaft code is the issue for me as when the engine is running, I can see the measuring block 91 (intake) is constantly changing where the exhaust almost stays at the same value.
this can be the ECU which trys to correct the intake value because of a bad Lambda value reading or am I wrong?
If the chain is streched, the intake and exhaust would have the same behaviour I think.
The other thing would only be a broken teeth of the camgear but that is very rare.

this is really annoying, this engine should not have such issue...

Yeah reading back through it your right Steve yours should have a later revision available. Have you been down to the dealers and asked them to do the update?
I think there is a later tpi that refers to the same problem, it goes something like gearbox hesitation. It's mentioned on the forum somewhere.
Best to visit the dealer personally and push for the update!
