Help needed!..3.2Q DSG Hesitant engine ~ 2k rpm

hello everybody,

I come to give you some news. Today my A3 received the ECU upgrade by the dealer. I went from the 7000 version and now I have the 8035 upgrade.
All I can say is, the car is now perfect. no more hesitation, the idle is perfect and rock solid it comes to 800rpm direct without staying at 1200rpm during 10seconds like before. I checked the camshaft position with VCDS and now the intake camshaft has no more delay, 2000rpm is now very smooth.
the car sounds better.
The best of this is the price. I only paid 82€ and they washed the car included in the price. Less than an hour and it was done.

So i need to thank you all again because without this thread I would have pay 5000€ or more for changing flywheel and timing chain without any result.

have a nice weekend.

Hi Steven,

I'm trying to get the dealer to apply this fix to my car, could you kindly confirm which exact version your ECU was before the update ? Was is 7000 as quoted above ? and what year and model is your Audi ?

Many thanks

Hello my friend, as I mentionned before I'm from France that is why my English is a little bit poor lol..anyway....

As i have a left driver car not like you, the ECU version are different betwwen yours and mine. So I had the 7000 version before doing the upgrade and you may pobably have a 64XX version. All you have to know is now they reached versions over 8000.

My ECU had 4 later as the new version.

Hope this will help you. If you have the same symptoms, insist by the dealer to only make the ECU upgrade. If needed try to talk with the garage Chief and explain him the problem solved here due to bad ECU program.

Hi,

Thanks so much for your reply, I'm travelling to the Audi garage now so this information is really helpful, also your English is great .

I'm hoping for a successful outcome, and thanks to you I think I have the info I need.

Cheers

Audi say that there is no update for my car that they can apply, my ECU is software version number - 7001
Part number - 022906032GJ

Looks like I'm not going to succeed via the Audi main dealer route ;-(

Hello, did they only plug the car to check the software version?
Did you have a scheduled appointment with the dealer? I needed to wait more than a week to have one
You have a 7001 because you have an automatic gearbox.

Try another dealer if this one doesn't want to help you, or maybe you need to go to a VolksWagen dealer it's the same software as the golf 4 R32.

software update is made by network no more old CDS.
have another try you will not regret it.

Hi, they performed a full diagnostics and found no faults, they had the car for over 1 week with test drives and I even went out with a tech to show them the issue which was apparent but still no update was applicable according to them.

I quoted what I believe to be the related TPI = 2005748/4 - They no longer recognise this...;-(

I guess I will have to try another garage or independent perhaps !

Hi Tekneq,

Here in Fance I gave the solution to other Audi users and a pair of them had the ECU upgrade. One of them replyed me and told me he has changed all timing chain, N205 valve, clutch and flywheel, Variable camshaft gears, Lambda and so on, nothing better, since Thursday he went from the dealer and the car runs perfectly with 250 000km on it.

they had the car for over a week and performed diagnostics and other stuff. The answer was always "the car has no fault code"...so he insisted and asked expressly to do only the ECU upgrade, after one hour and 80€ he took the car and it ran flawless.

So please just go to another dealer if this one is not able to help you with this little work. He may want to make pay a lot for changing anything on the car just to gain money, that is not a good dealer.

I hope you will have better chance next time.

Evening all,

Just wanted to finally share the good news with you all that my issue is now fixed following your advice so thanks to all, much appreciated ;-)

As mentioned previously got no love from Audi on the ECU update so looked up the nearest VCDS person to me with a view to getting them to flash my ECU.

Thankfully the nearest person was DJ Alix who thankfully lives just round the corner !
His knowledge and expertise is excellent and I would highly recommend him to anyone in London or where ever your coming from for that matter. . He was able to flash my ECU with the latest file from Audi using the VAG CAN PRO diagnostic tool and my Engine hesitation has disappeared ;-)

Am so glad he managed to sort this as it was beginning to bug the **** out of me, anyways cheers again guys and if you want a good guy to go see about this or any VCDS stuff then check out Alix's profile below. :yahoo:

Hi all.

Just come back from DjAlix and have Ecu update done. 8088 in my case. Had to drive 65 miles one way but was worth it.
Car now drives spot on and also accelerates throughout the gears on part throttle (including from standstill) much, much more smoothly. No more 2k revs issue and I hope problem with engine cutting out at junctions it's gone. It's to early to say yet but I'm pretty sure It's gone.

So...If you are looking for someone professional to do it you Ecu update and much more staff around London contact DjAlix.
Don't waste your time with audi.I wasted too much.
Thank you very much DjAlix and sorry again for 9 a.m sunday job!!!You're a star!!

After ecu update done by DjAlix I have done 1400 miles and no engine warning lights and engine didn't cut out...so all good!!
Great stuff!

Updated two more cars last week with no issues since :) If anyone is in need of this update, and cannot make it to London, I will be attending Audis In The Park on both Saturday and Sunday.

Digging up this thread again....

Just to say I got the update applied through a non-dealer source. If it is of any use to anyone, I have the files off the update disc mentioned earlier in this thread, and more importantly I have them in decoded .bin format (this might not mean much to you but it will to your tuner!).

Remap next!
Hi chaps.
Many of you may be familiar with me from my instagram account.

I have an 05 A3 3.2 with the exact symptoms.

diggerbucket is it too many years too late to take you up on the offer?

Cheers

Hi Guys,
Yet another one here!
2004 3.2 DSG Sportback which is slightly jerky on a fixed light throttle at about 2k revs and less.
Where can I get the ECU updated nearest to Leeds/Bradford area?
Cheers

So it appears none of my posts from the past few days actually got posted- I suppose the whole newbie thing with administrators.
I have been watching this thread for a year now as my 2005 A3 3.2 manual suffers badly with the same 2000rpm symptoms.
Audi South Africa will not assist, especially now that the dealerships use online logging as oppose to the software CD.
If anyone can help with the .bin file I will be eternally grateful :rapture:

Thus far I've replaced the coils, plugs, lambda sensors and even tried a revo tune file.
The more I replace the more I realise the symptoms are identical to those described in this thread.

For those who are not familiar- my instagram account has regular updates of my motoring life.
Humble but worth a look:nogarors4:

Hello, i'm having the same issue on my A3. I took it to the only local repair dealer in my city, gave them the TPI but they wouldn't want to proceed with the update because the TPI indicates that the problem only applies to cars with manual transmission and mine is a DSG.
I also read the tpi on the forums and my ecu is not listed, mine's ends with GL , 022 906 032 GL and the current version is 7000.

I'm so frustrated, i don't really know what to do, any help is appreciated.

Checking online I can see that the most update to date software for your ECU is 7001 which unfortunately is not going to resolve your issue :(

that's what i saw :( is there any chance that that small update would help? I can't believe my car has no fix at all.

Would it help If i do the unitronic/apr/revo chip?

DJAlix,
That's worrying, I was hoping you might be able to sort my car, which is also DSG!
ECU 022 906 032 GJ, version 6487.
I have VCDS and a scan log if any other info would help.
Is there a fix for mine?

To be honest I doubt that going from 7000 to 7001 would resolve the issue as I have seen other 3.2 ECU's with 7001 that have the issues in question. This is assuming that all the ECUs in the range have received updates at the same time so are in sync. It may well be that your ECU has not had as many updates released as others so 7001 for yours could be the equivalent of 8086 for another... if you see what I mean? The only way to know for sure would be to flash and test.

Re the question of using a 3rd party map to provide a "fix" I believe it might, unless said map is based on a faulty extract from Audi. I would imagine big name companies like Revo would have got to the bottom of this tho.

Where are you based?

Hi John,

Just looked and your ECU can be updated to v8036 which will resolve the issues :)

Yes i do understand what you're saying. It's a long shot. I'm from Argentina.

The main issue i have with the dealer is that the tpi i provided (the only valid tpi) says it's for manual transmission and they refuse to make the update through their system. It should work because they put my VIN number into the system and that tpi shows as a valid tpi for my car. The techincal guy is afraid of ruining my ecu by applying that TPI (for manual tranny) to my DSG vehicle.

The other issue that i'm noticing is that my primary o2 sensors are constantly failing. First the B2S1 sensor was bad, i replaced it and after two weeks of error free now the B1S1 is having intermittent errors. The rough idle and misfire never disappeared, so i know it's not the o2 fault but it's like something is messing with the sensors. I thought of removing the cat, maybe they're gone and they're making my primary sensors dirty/faulty ?

Hi DJAlix,

I just purchased an A3 8P1 3.2 2005, and thoroughly enjoying it. I do notice a tiny bit of roughness holding the revs when stopped between between 1k and 2k.

Reading up on this post and thinking an ecu update may help.

A vagcom scan shows:
Part no SW: 022 906 032GJ
HW: Bas isx 3
Component: MOTRONIC ME7.1.1 7000

Have no engine fault codes either.

Do you think an ecu update will help in my case?

Any help appreciated!

Argentina! Is cool, get me a return flight and I will pop over and update your ECU for free :)

The Official TPI may only be related to manual vehicles but I have mostly been flashing / updating DSGs to be honest. There is no chance of him messing this up and he can only use the file thats written for your ECU, of which there is only one available. The system Audi use will not let him flash a file thats meant for a different ECU / ECU version.

haha!! yes i'm way far away from you . I have a friend that's working in vw germany and he told me the same, that the system wont let him screw up my ecu by installing an unproper file. But yet, he wont do it. I'm goign to take the car to a bosch car service, he obviously doesn't have the vag online system but i think he would be able to update like you do, by finding the bin file on the web.

Got any clue on the o2 sensors and the decat possible solution?

Anyway, thanks so much for the help! i thought this topic was dead haha.

I think your guy is just trying to cover his backside just in case there are any issues. Try looking for an authorised 3rd party workshop / garage with access to Audi Online.

I don't find my files online as its not safe to do so. Unlike a great number of people out there I actually have a paid subscription to VAG Group which allows me access to everything from workshop diagrams through to software and firmware.
