Hi guys!

I have a problem with my left rear door on my A3 8P, and I'm kinda going crazy. I have tried to look around the forum but nothing really fits my problem.

Anyway, I have had no problems so far, but then last week when temperature dropped to -5, it started.

First, the dash showed that a door was open in the car, and the lights were on inside. Even though all doors were closed. This has now vanished.

Now my door lock is not working. When i press lock on my remote, the 3 other doors and the boot locks, but not this door. The lights do not blink either. The window button is not lighting up either, nor can I control the window from the drivers seat. I can not fell the actuator "moving" when i hold the handle and press lock. So its like there is no power to the door?

Then sometimes everything works, and than all of the sudden, nothing works. So it kinda goes back and forth.

Do you have any idea of what this could be?

I read somewhere that it could be the pin in the fuel opening that has died, but mine works perfectly.
The fact that it sometimes works and sometimes not works is strange?
If its the actuator that has died, than how come the windows do not work either?

On a different note, but maybe related. When i blink to the right, the light sometimes flashes quicker than normal (like when a bulb has died), this could be related?

Help me! I am going crazy!!!

I will try!

Which one is the earth?

youre looking for a break in the wiring loom. reason he mentioned earth, is that it seems like everything in your door is dead. thats unusual, but not impossible. if the earth was broken, that would explain it.

to simplify it, just look for damage to any of the wires.

Yes sorry I didn’t have a lot of time to type earlier samisnake is correct I mentioned the earth because everything seems to die. 90% of the time the earth is a fairly thicker brown wire but not always. But if you find any damage it’s not good for obvious reasons. However if you search on eBay for say “A3 rear door harness or loom” you can usually find a complete replacement harness. But also if you can see the part number on your current one then search for that and then you’d hopefully find a match.

Hope this helps if you need anymore advice feel free to hit me up

..........different car but same problem. Mine is an RS6c7 model, but had the exact same symptons. I thought it was the cold weather/after washing etc BUT then i noticed the door handle L.E.D puddle light was not working. Booked in to my local specialist to have the L.E.D. light changed & they found something wrong with the locking system on that door which was luckily covered under the warranty i have on the car. Since replacing it's been fine.

So i tried to have a look, and all the wires look intact. I even tried to pull them and they all seem very firm, i really do not know what to do now? Any ideas?

I just took some photos of the wires on both ends.

Hiya did you try and slide that rubber boot all the way down or grab the wires and pull them? Sorry to sound like a broken record but it is very easy to miss that. If it were me I’d try and slide the whole rubber boot into the door itself just to be 100% it usually goes about half way (where I’ve put the arrow) you could also get a meter and fix it to the red and green wire (live) and the brown wire (earth) at the door control unit and see what you’re getting as it stands and then grab the rubber boot and twist and pull it if it drops then you have a break. Though don’t forget a single strand of a 2mm wire will read 12v but it wouldn’t be enough to operate anything.
