HELP! - 2004 Audi A4 1.8t Quattro (B6) wont start!!!

What will they say, because there one won't be open when I call them this evening?

I'm sure that they will have the relevant diagnostics to tell me what code is coming up right?

maybe they will have a generic obd code reader, dunno mate.

I know that most generic readers can't talk to all the systems in the car, especially the immobiliser etc, but worth a shot eh.

Check on ebay for an actual audi hand held code reader....

Something like this...

Also someone else wrote on another forum:

"I've had oil pumps over pressurize on start causing similar fault may be a good idea to check oil pressure on cold start
too much oil pressure opens the hydraulic lifters too much and car spins over too fast due to low compressions"

Could be a stupid question but... How would I go about checking the oil pressure?

Doing some searches...

Could the previous owner have put the wrong oil in the car?

Could this cause some of the symptoms I have?

Would the RAC man be able to find this out?

How would I get this confirmed?

that looks perfect mate, might get one o those meself! £24, does all vag and fits in the glovebox.

And the oil pressure can only be checked by connecting a screw-in gauge designed to measure OP, and read off the results, or use the code reader if it can read the oil pressure sensor data, like vag com can. The problem with the gauge type is you would need somewhere to screw it into, like an existing tapped sensor hole near the oil filter, but there may not be a spare and the ecu will throw codes anyway if you unscrew the original to screw a gauge in there, tho you can clear the codes wi the reader.........but if it measures OP anyway I would just use that.

Just brought that reader, would be handy in the future

Now the wait is on for the RAC!

I'm going to phone them later tonight.... At least I can sit at home waiting for them not in my car in the middle of no where :cold:

Just thought, if the RAC offer to take my car to a garage what would be the best one to take it to in Brum....

I'm thinking...

Or should I wait until Monday and give RAC a call then? That way they will be open.

I was hoping to have the car on the road by now :keule:

If you ring them tonight and they come out then they may well scan it and find something simple. However the chances of them having that replacement sensor or whatever at 9pm on a Sat night are virtually non-existent. They may also fail to start it at all. Either way you will probably end up being towed to a garage.

If it was me I would far rather wait till Monday morning, when the garage will be open and staffed and able to accept your car, than I would have it towed to a strange garage in the middle of the night. And I doubt you will be going with it!

Did you sort RAC cover just for this problem? And you have bought VAG-com but no joy, and now another scan reader too?

I am going to do exactly what you just suggested. Also I am not at home so could not call them out any way. Before all this happened I was looking to get a price from Central Audi about replacing belts and a good service. They are based pretty close to where I live.

With regards to the other points about buying all those other things, the answer in short is yes...

The original VAG-COM cable has now been sold to a friend, he has an A3...

The RAC home start was something I had always wanted but never really got around to upgrading...

And this final cable is for me as a back up

*UPDATE -

Car currently at garage with suspected fuel pump/relay issues.

RAC managed to get it started. But died after a min or so. This was while he was playing around with the fuel pump on the back seats (drivers side).

RAC said:

"Checked for non-start. No fuel pump vim (?? cant read handwriting). Fuse feed Checked. No current draw. Suggest pump/relay requires further attention."

*UPDATE 2

Fuel pump and all wire replacing. Relay is fine. All parts from Audi £225 inc labour.

Reasonable?

I hope that's the problem!

That's from a specialist, but the part will be from Audi as he said no one sells the part other then Audi. They will have to test the part first.

Send fuel through make sure it's safe. Then they will send. All this guy is doing is labour. He said should be around a 2 hour job all being well.

:greyrs4:

*UPDATE

My car is back on the road! Whoooo!!!

It was the fuel pump.

Big thank you to everyone who helped me come to the bottom of this headache!!!
