its all down to how much you want to spend £25 - £100 really, i have never had problems with the cheap one

Osram night breakers seem very popular m8.... I've used them in the past and like the colour

i have also used these in the past before i fitted hid's and they are excellent compaired to standard bulbs.

I've got them too but I wish I went for the Philips as the Night Breakers look too yellow compared to my led sidelight which is white.

Looking to change my sidelight and headlight bulbs on an 03 cabriolet. Can anyone tell me what I can put in to make it look more modern i.e. whiter rather than the yellow bulbs I have? I've dfone loads of searches in the past about putting in HID kits, but I think they're illegal unless you have washers and proper levelling, so it would fail MOT? Can anyone give me the K level and H number? of the bulbs I would need please? Also, which are better, night breakers or Phillips blue xenon? Are the Philips blue xenon completely legal or a possible MOT fail?

Yes strictly it should fail an MOT now without the washers and levellers, yet there are still legions of clowns driving round with HIDs fitted to older cars with a wider scatter bulb pattern which do nothing but blind everyone else.

I don't have a problem with correctly aimed projector lens type headlights being fitted to cars such as retrofitting Audi OEM HID assemblies to a different Audi since it was all designed to work in harmony and comply with legislation which although many people don't like, is all written to protect everyone.

I used Osram Nightbreakers for the full beam on my Legacy import which came with factory fitted HIDs for dipped beam and the Nightbreakers were (no pun intended) like the difference between night and day compared to the standard full beam bulbs that were fitted. I am definitely tempted to try another pair in the A4.

Just browsing Autobulbsdirect and it just amazes me how vendors can get away with supplying bulbs with comments in the descriptions like: "Not E marked therefore are not strictly road legal"... Err well duh, where do you think they will be used?!

yes it should fail but most likely wont being the a4 got the rear projector type headlight it's harder for testers to fail them because they aint generally as bright and blinding and can be made harder not to see them, but obviously this is the chance you take, I think in a few more years to come it will be the same as decats people will change them just for the mot......when the testers have got more pressure on checking them, if there not fitted correctly or lined up they are terrible for other road users .....

So are Osram nightbreakers okay if you don't have washers and self levelling? If so, can anyone specify what I would need for side, dipped and main beam please?

Thanks,
paul

philips are road legal would think nightbreakers are to..As far as i know all 6 bulbs are h7 apart from the sidelights. sidelight bulbs are 501 i think. Get led sidelights dont know if there road legal but not had any probs and they look good..

Yes night breakers are completely legal just a normal halogen bulb just whiter n slightly brighter....

Sorry if I'm being thick, are Phillips blue xenon completely road legal too, or should I go for the night breakers? When you say 6 bulbs, are we talking sidelight, dipped headlight, main beam headlight, all x2?

Has anyone changed the rear number plate bulb to white led? Walked past a new merc c class coupe tonight, occurred to me how old fashioned the bulbs on mine are!

Yes I did looked loads better and I've just done the R aswell

Ive just removed the Crap 6k Hid kit fitted by the previous owner tonight. And replaced them with Ring 120% bulbs. There is so much more usable light on the road now.

I just need to figre out why one of my side light isn't getting power.

So which is better? Ring 120%, Philips blue vision or Philips Xtreme vision? Are the Ring 120% bulbs completely legal without self levelling and washers?

This is my top priority job now. I drive on country B roads to work every day so I need some decent bulbs!

Can anyone help re. sidelights please? I'm decided on the Ring 120% bulbs for dipped and main beam, but these LED sidelights I linked say "only allowed for off road use" which I'm guessing is a roundabout way of saying "illegal for road use"!

Is this correct, are they illegal? If so, has anyone bought normal sidelight bulbs that match something like the Ring 120% bulbs I.e. much whiter light?

Hi guys.Just wondering what the best headlight bulbs are for the a4. Had philips blue xenon look fitted(better than standard) but one blew tonight so wondering if anyone had any suggestions. Cheers..

I've tried most of the other white/xenon look top end bulbs on the market and being honest I've found the white halogen bulbs that T8ups turns out to be the best looking for a clean crisp white light - send him a PM

Hi, I just get a list of 11 different ones, can't work out which one you have? Can you be more specific? Are these LED sidelights legal? Do they actually put out any light?

Mine are far brighter than my old halogen ones are! They're perfectly legal, assuming you get white ones.

As I said I have the 15 LED ones, the links shows all the bulbs that are compatible with the 501 fitment you require. It looks like they offer a 13 LED model in its place now.

Thanks quattrojames, that's brilliant! I just wanted to make sure I didn't buy a dud!
i think I'll get the 13 LED ones as you suggest. Need to do it desperately, lack of light is ****** dangerous, scared myself tonight!
is it an easy job to switch the main beam, dipped and sidelight bulbs on the B6 cabriolet?

Ring Xenon Max 120% bulbs will be my next ones, I currently have the older xenon max 100% brighter in my B6, and in the H4 variety on my Escort. Brilliant bulbs and perfectly legal, they dont mimick any bulbs they are what they are just a top quality bulb.

I have had osram night breakers before on my old focus, one blew after a couple of months, I wasnt buying any more so I stuck a standard one back in and couldnt tell the difference between them !

Ordered the LED sides and the Ring 120 dipped and main beam, just waiting for them to turn up.
Can anyone help with a link to some LED rear number plate lights that they've used, had a look but confused as there are lights only, lights with holders etc. I just want to do it with as little hassle as possible.

I get a feeling you will find it hard with the numberplate lights as the screw for the light tends to weld on to the surround.

Speak to Trups from EMTuning, his are as good as any in my experience.

Read the thread on changing them first though, as mentioned the screws rust in and most people end up buying a new surround and new lenses too.
