Hi guys
New here.. I've got an issue with my S3 ('99) and hoping someone can give me some direction. I was driving home yesterday and steam started coming through the bonnet. Temperature got to about 110 before I pulled over and saw that coolant was steaming through the reservoir cap (it was done up as tight as possible). I slowly depressurised the system and added some more coolant and nursed it home with heating on full blast. The heating eventually went cold, but the coolant temp stayed at 90.
I'm under the assumption that the head gasket has gone - there is no mayo in the oil cap, but the coolant is milky brown. I checked the coolant this morning and it doesn't feel oily, however. I've borrowed a compression tester to check it this evening, but just wanted to know if it could be anything else? Are HG issues common on these engines?
Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.
