Have you heard the S4/S5 rumour...

Not really surprising, other premium German manufacturers will capitalise on Audi shooting themselves in the foot...

Although apparently BMW UK are already killing the X3 M40i, and just leaving the M40d, so maybe where Audi lead others will follow?

No I dont think so either. An M340i Touring is now on my list for next car as the size works for me, just need to let the discounts ramp up a bit first!

Models go missing on BMW UKs website all the time. A fairly well known dealer says the X3 M40i will be back by the end of the month with a slightly higher state of tune B58 engine

My missus has an X4 M40i and is picking up another one in September. There's no sign of it being dropped so I can't see the X3 dropping it

Apparently you can spec the new Touring from Friday for September delivery. Hopefully the M340i included

It’s growing on me!

Doing 20k+ a year a diesel would certainly suit me better, however the following I still don’t like...

Touch screen only
Those trim things stuck on the fog grills!
Fake exhausts...although would help the issue of the ever corroding tips currently

Will wait to see in the flesh and test drive, maybe with the black pack and right colour those grill add ons might look better? But with more power, quicker and a petrol the 340i Touring still probably top of my list....unless I go the RS3 route!

20k p/a makes diesel more attractive from consumption point of view

That is rumour, but others saying going to be back on configurator in coming weeks with new dash, engine etc.

Or...maybe it is the overall emissions thing that appears to be causing VW Group issues.

That is what I heard too, apparently on BMW German site already, not that I have checked.

Hope you can turn off the droning exhaust noise - sounds terrible.

New S4 looks like a complete backwards step to me both in terms of diesel and infotainment. I won't be buying one.

My theory is that the decision of Porsche to drop diesel left a large number (and production investment) of the 3L diesel uncalled for. Conversely, given the that the 3L TFSi we currently have in our S4s is the natural replacement for many of those Porsche diesels, there is a shortage of them for Audi. I don't think it has anything to do with emissions and so on.

Might force me into an RS4 or more likely a BMW.

I heard (sounds feasible) that given the significant investment VW Group had made in Diesel Tech, they needed to shift more, not helped them by Porsche dropping diesel, so Audi and VW get to flog them.

Tough times ahead for Audi non diesel lovers

We can only guess at what is behind the marketing brains within Audi. I think though other models in the A4 range will be ok...

Also speaking of VAG investment - haven't they done a lot with synthetic diesel? That's another reason to promote their diesel engines.

Ta! interesting.
If you go to 'audi-mediacenter.com' (and always amused at how their releases are very 'American'), particularly under Sustainability, am impressed on the company's goal to make their complexes completely sustainable, by 2050 (I think). eg:

https://www.audi-mediacenter.com/en...0000-cubic-meters-of-fresh-water-a-year-11417

I receive notification of all their releases. Particularly Audi-Sport.
FYI - Le Mans 24hrs this week-end.

Yes Le Mans, thanks for the reminder. I'll watch as much as I can as there is always a healthy brit participation. Is Brendan Hartley in it this year, not aussie I know but a damm fine driver from your neck of the woods...

Yes & Yes. BH is a fine driver. He currently replaced Alonso for this season's Toyota LMP1 drives + does simulator work for Ferrari (was @ Canadian GP last week) + contracted to Porsche ij development with the Formula E programme & trying to get a works drive.
Doing his contracts to sort out priorities would have been fairly lively.

https://www.speedcafe.com/2019/06/13/toyota-confirms-hartley-as-direct-replacement-for-alonso/

When Toro Rosso F1 left him their words of "thank you" were v-e-r-y ordinary. Before they released it (under pressure I feel) Honda wrote a glowing, genuinely appreciative 'thank you'.
Not hard really, as down here we are grateful for all the money/equipment Asian manufacturers have poured into the auto industry, let alone racing.
Dr Marko & his ilk snob anything outside Europe, incl. across the channel.

AN, bless him, seems like he's been in F1 for as long as I've been watching the sport. He must see the current f1 engines and the design compromises they bring as a 'interesting' challenge. However, being a true petrol head, I am sure he prefers the previous natural aspirated engines.
Interesting he feels the car industry will head towards hydrogen powered cars...

Just seen Brendon being interviewed live at Le Mans so he is there but only as a reserve driver...

Correction/clarification - BH does not replace Alonso until the next race which is the start of the new season. For some reason the 2018 season has 2 x Le Mans races - this being the last race. Beumi/Nakajima/Alonso are currently leading the series & may end up as WEC Champions.
Sorry.

Might have to turn it off soon, I have been watching it since this morning and I think my partner is a little fed up with it now. Some aggressive racing for a 24hr one..

Top of the class, sir!!

Interesting in the graph that petrol for the last years approx. constant whilst increase in hybrid/ev equates to similar decrease in diesel.
Reiterating Audi is an automaker, so will only do what IT wants & bugg3r you.

Quite, seems to me they wish to create a 'self fulfilling prophecy' so as too drop the 'S' models entirely through lack of sales.
Who else would produce a product for a diminishing market?

Possibly the engine used for the my20 on S models may well just be a modified version...
